Dr. Becky

Called my dr. last Thursday. Turns out I was super overmedicated. I called him because I was experiencing these symptoms..

.• Nausea
• Insomnia
• Ejaculation problems -- I was NOT experiencing this problem
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue
• Drowsiness
• Indigestion
• Shakiness
• Loss of appetite
• Decreased sex drive (libido) – N/A….. duh.
• Increased sweating
• Burning or tingling sensation (paresthesias)
• Headache
• Weight loss
• Abdominal pain
• Constipation
• Hot flashes
• Nervousness.

He cut my medication in half. So this morning I'm sitting here trying to figure out when I'll feel better - when I'll be able to keep food in my system. So I pulled this out of my bag of tricks...

Since the elimination of medicine from the body represents a changing or dynamic system, I knew I could use a shifted geometric sequence to figure out when I was going to feel better. Research suggests that this particular med has a half-life of one day which meant I could use the following recursive routine…

U1=100
Un=(1-.5)Un-1+100
Where n >=2 (naturally)

I took 100mg for 9 days before I reduced to 50mg.
The long run value for 100mg is 200mg and the long run value for 50 mg is 100mg. So I started off with 100mg in my system already (U1)

After 9 days my body would have been holding on to 199.8 mg. I started getting weird on dose #5 – when my body was at 196.88 mg.

So, when I changed the meds – the shifted geometric recursive routine would have looked like this…

U1=199.8
Un=(1-.5)Un-1=50
Where n>=2 again.

Today is Tuesday which means my body is holding on to 101.6 mg of the meds. I will be back at 100 by this Sunday.

Who says you don't use math in your daily life?
