Accuquilt GO! Quilt Along Completion and End of Ugly Fabric Challenge

Well guys, I did not win anything in the Accuquilt GO! Quilt-A-Long, but my dear friend, Sue from NJ, won first prize - an Accuquilt GO! Die.  It was great to have her win.  Her quilt top was beautiful.

The Ugly Fabric Challenge has also come to an end.  There were sixteen projects entered.  We each get 3 votes.  The top three vote getters (is that a word?) will win fat quarters.  Here is the link to see all the projects:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/1721001@N21/ .   All of the projects were very creative, especially with so little fabric.  We should know the winners by Monday.

I have resolved not to take on any new projects, swaps, contests, etc. this summer.  I need to get into my pile of UFOs and whittle them down.

One week until family vacation.  I am so ready for 7 days of mindless leisure.

Bits and Pieces of the Weekend

Welcome to my new followers.  Thanks for your interest.

This weekend has been spent catching up on several projects.

I am participating in a year-long swap with the scratchingpost yahoo group.  Each month 50 of us send out cupcakes to those having a birthday during the current month.  The picture below shows cupcakes that I sent out for the April birthday girls.

We are also doing a "Cuppa Joe" swap.  I have received about 10-12 cups, but have not taken a picture of them.  Sometimes in the next month I will get them out and share them with you.

I have also finished the next block in the AccuquiltGO! quilt-along.  Block 4 is tumblers.  We made six sets of three tumblers sewn together, and a long strip of tumblers.  These blocks were made using our light
and darks neutrals.  My dark neutral has an obvious directional print.  I cut two of the tumblers out in the wrong direction.  Since I used up all of my originally chosen dark, I had to pick out another design to complete the blocks.  I found the perfect color in my stash - Handspray by RJR Fabrics.  If any additional dark neutrals are used in the quilt-a-long, this is the fabric I will be using.  I think it blends in quiet well.  What do you think?

The "Just Needles" group of Pascagoula is making a couple of quilts.  The focus fabric chosen is the floral fabric seen in the picture below.  Isn't it beautiful!!  I chose to combine it with the green and purple fabric shown.  I loved how the "Lovers Knot" block turned out in this color combination.  Click on the picture to get a better view of the fabrics.

I had made this pattern earlier this month for a secret project that I cannot share at this time.  I just loved the pattern, so I made it again with this color combination.  The picture does not do the colors justice.

AccuQuilt GO! Quilt-Along Fabric Choice and Block 1

Picked up the AccuQuilt GO! Chisel die on Saturday and began the process of starting the Quilt-Along at Ebony Love's blog, Quiltpossible.  The triangel die, also used on this block, is on backorder.  Thus, I cut the triangles with a rotary cutter.

My fabric choices are as shown below:  Light and dark neutrals, light and dark green, light and dark blue.  I also have chosen a light and dark red.  It was not used in Block 1.  I will show it at a later date.

My first block is shown below.  I am having trouble getting them to measure the suggested nine inches.  I have completed two of the necessary eight.   Here is close-up of one block and a picture of two side by side.  I really love the block.  There are lots of possibilities for using this die.  I would never have attempted to cut out a chisel block with a template and a rotary cutter.

I will work on the remainder tomorrow and keep trying for a nine inch block.
