1. How would you define a lie?

Ask Away Sunday: Week 28
1. What are five interesting facts about your three favorite sports?
Basketball
James Naismith is the man credited with inventing basketball in 1891
Peach baskets were used as the first “hoops” and the first backboards were made of wire
Basketball became an official Olympic event in Berlin, Germany in 1936
Until 1937, the referee tossed a jump ball after each basket
On March 2, 1962, center Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in one game against New York
Football
The American game of football was invented after British rugby players introduced their sport to the Americans. This introduction occurred in 1868, when British soldiers living in Montreal showed players at an American University how to play rugby and the rules involved with that sport. It would be over thirty years later that the American version of rugby, football, became a fully developed sport. However, there are people that became involved in the evolution of the sport, and important dates that are interesting to learn about concerning football.
There is some argument over the exact date when pro football began. The first college game took place between Rutgers and Princeton in November of 1869. Years later, in November of 1892, the Allegheny Athletic Association football team beat the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. In this later game, at least one of the players was paid for their performance, making it the first "professional" game.
The fields on which football is played have the nickname of “gridirons”. In 1906, there were attempts to make the game safer by changing the layout of the field. Lines were drawn on the field both vertically and horizontally so that the referee could keep an eye on the distance being covered when passes were made. These lines resembled a checkerboard pattern or gridirons, which led to the nickname. Eventually the lines were removed in 1910, yet the nickname proved to be so popular that even today, some people still call them gridirons.
Artificial turf (known as AstroTurf) was first used in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas in 1965. By the 1970s, the use of artificial turf was widespread in football, baseball and soccer venues
The NHL was formed in 1917.

One of America’s president was almost responsible for the demise of
football. Theodore Roosevelt thought the sport was too violent, and
after stories of severe injuries that players had incurred, Roosevelt threatened that he would ban the sport altogether.
After much debate, Roosevelt decided that he would not fight against
the sport if a set of safety regulations were enacted to help prevent
players from being injured. Roosevelt’s requirement and other
improvements led to the eventual establishment of American football that
is played today.
Hockey
The modern game of hockey was invented in the mid-1850s by British soldiers based in Canada.
The NHL was formed in 1917.
The original Stanley Cup was only seven inches high.
A goalie's chest protector is made of Kevlar, the same material used in bulletproof vest for police.
The puck is five ounces of solid vulcanized rubber, three inches in
diameter and one inch thick. The puck is frozen before games to make it
bounce resistant.

Ask Away Sunday: Week 27
List
your 2 favorite things about each season.
Spring: My birthday and the NBA Playoffs. Summer: Playing basketball and seeing some of my friends again in person. Fall: My sister's birthday, the leaves change colors and the NBA starts in October.
Winter: Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Do you have any memories of ice fishing with Grandpa Simpson? If yes, then share one or a few.
Yes. I remember when I caught my first fish he made a big deal out of it and he acted like it was the biggest fish he'd ever seen even though it was very small. I also remember that I fell off from the snowmobile once on the way to where we were ice fishing. My Dad and uncles had to help me get back on the snowmobile.
Why is the Simpsons your favorite TV series?
I don't think the show would be as hilarious if my last name wasn't Simpson, but it makes it fun to apply some of the jokes to my own family.
How did the TV series the Simpsons become your favorite?
My crazy sister Sheila would watch it every day after school So I started watching it with her and it was fun to spend time with her.
And when?
We probably started watching it in the mid-90s.
What is an update on your home's construction and post a few photos?
The construction is coming along slowly, but surely. I'm going to wait for a few months and possibly post the photos at the same time in one blog post if people aren't tired of hearing about it by then.

1. Please give the proper definition of the Facebook like button for the less
educated.
To me the Facebook like button is an overused button that takes the place of actual communication.
2. What are some examples of when it would be appropriate to use the like button?
I'd prefer to see an option to disable the like button, but I think it could be appropriate in situations where someone just needs to acknowledge something without actually commenting.
3. Describe a new sport you would create.
I'd like to combine basketball with bobsledding somehow since those are two of my favorite sports in the Olympics. The court would be covered with ice and the bobsled would need to be equipped with some type of device to shoot the ball out the side of the bobsled as the bobsled is going down a track.
4. Would you use a ball?
Yes.
5. What size and shape of would the ball be?
The ball would be a smaller ball similar to the balls used for dodgeball.
6. Is the winner the one who scored the most or least?

7. Is it a team or individual player game?
A team sport.
8. What would you call the whistle blowers/rule keepers?
Referees and scorekeepers.
9. If it's a team sport how many players at a time?
4 players. Each person in the bobsled would have a turn to go down the track and score points within a specific time limit.
10. Fill in the blank...the game is over when ________.

Ask Away Sunday: Week 25
Cinnamon rolls or sugar cookies?
I like sugar cookies just a little more than cinnamon rolls.
How old is Melanie now?
My niece is approximately 5 months old now.
What fun exciting things is a she doing?
Melanie's learned how to mimic some of peoples' actions. She knows how to grab my finger. Sheila's also been trying to teach her to roll over, but Melanie doesn't understand how to roll over yet.
What is your favorite kind of bird?
I don't necessarily have a favorite bird.
What are the official plans for the remodeling and what % is complete?
The plan is to remodel the kitchen, take out the carpet in the living room/bedrooms and build an addition onto my home. Hopefully it'll be finished by early in the Fall.
Do you agree with Lebron James getting the MVP award? If not then who should have?
Yes, I thought that Lebron James was the best player for the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. At the same time I don't like that the NBA usually automatically gives the MVP award to a superstar. I think
that a role player can be very valuable player in an NBA Finals such as Danny Green was for the Spurs in this NBA Finals.
