Year End ....

2014 saw a lot of big events for the babies in our family.

Our first baby started Kindergarten this year.  She is doing wonderful and loving every minute of it.  Her speech is improving daily, and she's growing up so fast.

We added this sweet baby to our family this year ......

And she is already so grown up!

And this sweet girl found out she is going to be a big sister!  So we are really looking forward to 2015!

Getting them all to sit still for a pic on Christmas Eve was quite the chore.  And next year we will have another one to add in the mix.  Yay!  This has been a very good year for this Gamma!

Here's to 2015!

A Busy Busy Week(end)

It's been a busy long weekend around my house!!

I've been making things in anticipation of adding items to a new shop that is opening near me that will have a selection of things from local craft vendors.  They've invited several of us to come tomorrow night to see the space (almost finished with the renovation) and find out a little bit about how things will work.

I've made Alabama and Auburn reversible dresses (because I live in the heart of Alabama and the rivalry is huge!)   The dresses are completely reversible.

I made bloomers for this one because it is if Ivy Rose, but I will not be making any more size 3mo bloomers!  Just too fidgety to work with!!  (I will try a 6 month size maybe)

I also made her a sleep sack.
It works well, but I will make the neckline a little lower on the next one.  And BabyGurl has asked for a lighter weight one (this one was made with some scraps of fleece, so I will use flannel on the next one.)

And another new pattern I tried.  I did not like sewing with gathers 30 years ago, and I still do not like it!  :-)

Some baby love.

And some more baby love.
(Ignore my crazy expression, I was talking to Sadie when BabyGurl snapped the pic.)

And look who can touch the bottom of the pool this year!!  Oh my!

She had to have "Ewik's" sunglasses.  She's such a diva (sometimes)!

And Miss Ivy Rose went for her one month (34 days old) checkup today and she is 9 lb 4 oz and 22 inches.  (She has grown three pounds and three inches!!!!)

She's on her way to visit me now, so there'll be pictures on the next blog update!

Non-sewy stuff ...

I've been busy, just notsomuch with sewing.

We are still playing baseball ......

(the one-handed hit)

(the excitement of the hit)

(the score)

And christening babies ....

(Ivy Rose)

(the family - and the preacher)

(the preacher at my daughter's church used to sit behind me in fourth grade and tie my hair to my chair. who'da thunk he'd be a preacher  - and christening my grandbaby?)

(my mom, dad, babygurl, ivy rose, sil, me, preacher)

(and more irresistable baby pics)

Pardon the mismatched photo sizing / quality.  Some are from my phone, some from my camera, some from other sources (including a screen grab from a video clip!)

I did do one little bit of sewing for a friend's daughter.

And I'm almost done with a set of bumper pads for Sadie's crib.
(photo later)

So ....... how was your week??

Babies, Dresses, and Baseball ...

Welcome to a new week.  It's been a busy one but not a lot of sewing.  I did make these little dresses a couple of weeks back, and finally got them gifted and the Momma's got me some pictures.

I had to make Ivy Rose a second one because the first one was too big.  I made it by the 0-3 months pattern and she was only just over six pounds so it swallowed her whole!  I cut it down just a little and made her another and it was a perfect fit.  (She also got a bib, which Sadie does not need)

Here are my sweet baby girls in their matching dresses.

And a couple more pics, just for good measure ...

Our Gabbie-Lou-Who also had her very first ever baseball game on Saturday.  She plays with the Field of Angels league.

Great picture of Gabbie and her "buddy".

Monday Update .......

Real clever title for this post huh?  I haven't blogged much lately.  I have been busy and have several finishes, but not much time for blogging.

First, my greatest accomplishment (well, ok, my daughter's accomplishment, but let's not split hairs ok?)

Miss Ivy Rose
7/29/14 - 4:50 pm
6 lb 10 oz - 19 inches

Gabbie-Lou-Who loves her.

She (and her parents) came to church with us today and afterward to lunch at my mom and dad's.  Gamma got lots of rocking time while her momma and daddy ate their lunch.

I've made matching dresses for Ivy and Sadie.
(This is Sadie's, I've already gifted Ivy's)

And my newest project   .... A whole herd of elephants!!
I am addicted to these creatures!!
(They are made from this pattern from Sweetbriar Sisters for Camelot Fabrics)

Back to school 2014 SALE in the Etsy Shop now!  Use coupon code SCHOOL14 to save 14% off your entire order (excluding shipping) through Aug 14, 2014.

And this sweet thing starts Kindergarten this week!!  We have orientation and meet the teacher this afternoon.  She is ready.  I think her PawPaw is not.  :-)

I'll have more updates on the school adventure next week!!

What A Week!

Picture heavy post .... lots going on in the past week.

I think I was working on this when last I blogged.  This is the finished top for what will be BabyGurl's baby girl's christening quilt.

It will be backed with Emmy Grace Fantasy Fawn Day ...... I haven't picked a binding yet.

My niece wanted some pillowcases so she bought the fabrics and brought them to me.  I used this tutorial. I've made several of these now and it is really quick and easy.

Even with my written instructions on what kind of fabric to get (quilting cotton) she manged to get a jersey like fabric.  While it's really kind of nice and soft for pillowcases, I haven't sewn with this in at least three decades, if ever.  So it was kind of difficult to work with, but the second one went much faster.  It turned out really well though.  She had two made from this fabric.

And two more from this fabric (which incidentally this main fabric is quilting cotton, with the jersey trim, but it turned out ok too).

Sunday afternoon we sat out by the pool while Gabbie-Lou-Who had a swim.  Now, while it has been very pleasant weather being outside for several days (80's daytime, 60-ish at night) it wasn't really great for heating up the pool.  So we brought out a pot or two (or five) of boiling water to at least get it up to a bearable temperature (though still far from warm).

There were of course bbq ribs for more than one meal over the weekend.  Sweet Thang doesn't even leave enough bone for the dogs!!

We didn't see this little one over the weekend as they were off bbq'ing and swimming and boating with friends, but we have this adorable picture. We will be having a first birthday party for her on Saturday!

Nephew was kind enough to come help out with a little (well, a lot actually) of yardwork before the rib-eating commenced.

I rewarded him with a couple of pillowcases of his own.

And then on Monday morning bright and early (530am) we headed to Children's Hospital for a tonsillectomy.  This kid is a trooper.  She had to have a tear duct opened when she was still an infant, has had two sets of ear tubes, and now this.

Waiting room, hospital room, recovery room, home.

She is doing quite well though, with the exception of a slight reaction to the pain meds.  They make her HYPER.  For the first hour after she takes them she will be jittery and talking faster than a 33rpm album playing on 78rpm.  Thank goodness she is eating and drinking with no problems though.

And I've started another project.  I'm using this pattern

So, that's my week in a (very big) nutshell.  How about yours?
