The Home Stretch...

I've made the two final tops for my SWAP.   Funnily enough, the last one was not one I even intended to make, but it fits the plan better than the my original idea, or at least I think so.

First up is the top Burda 05-109-103 which is the same pattern as the pink geometric dress from last week. 

 
I lined it with a leftover from the geometric dress to and piped the waist band to tie it in with the initial other things in the collection.  The pink knit I used for the piping is leftover from a dress and top I made for the original Shetland Collection.
 


So with the pink knit sitting around as I sewed, I started to think that maybe I should use it up.  Whilst rummaging in my pattern box for a jacket pattern (which I only found today) I came across Burda 8715, which is one of the first patterns I ever bought.  The skirt pattern was the base for my TNT pencil skirt and I've made the jacket twice before, but I've never made the top.

I thought the high collar tied in well with the collar of the pink spotty blouse from last week. It actually looks way better on than it does on Vera and it gives two very different looks when tucked in or left out.  This was a real surprise to me and I'm so glad I made it.



To give myself an idea of whether or not the collection worked together and whether or not they worked with the fabric I have for the final garment, I laid them all out (still unpressed) on the bed to see how they look.  Overall I'm pretty pleased and now just have to decide on the final pattern!

This is a great collection. I can't wait to see the last piece. I have loved grey and pink since I was a girl so this really speaks to me!

I went downstairs to my sewing room to press my black skirt. I couldn't find my pressing cloth in its usual place, so I started opening all the drawers in my sewing desk to see if I had inadvertently put it away. This is the drawer that holds shoulder pads and large chunky zips, so I don't open it very often. This is a brown tree snake, commonly known as a night tiger. They won't kill you, but their venom packs a punch, so children, the elderly or people with weak hearts will get pretty sick. The picture doesn't do him justice as they are the most lovely shimmery bronze with a salmon coloured, very glossy belly. Whilst I have no fear of snakes and will happily pick them up and move them, finding this one in my sewing desk made me jump. I have loads of these all over the house, but I have never found one in a cupboard before. As I haven't opened this drawer for ages, I don't know if he is a new resident or if he comes here often. The last of the red wool ...

I couldn't get the jacket I had originally planned from the remains of this wool, so I went with M5244 View B this time.  I made View A in lavender for my SWAP but this is the view that prompted me to buy this pattern in the first place.  The pattern envelope has a version in faux fur and I still want to make one of those. For once I made no alterations to the pattern and I even put the buttons where the pattern said to put them.  I lined it in the same poly charmeuse I used for the matching red skirt.  It's taken me three weeks to finish this jacket because of the lack of button availability in Tasmania, but I ended up using three buttons from my stash that have been there for a VERY long time.  I still had some bits leftover, not big enough for a garment but plenty for this little hat.  It's V8440 which I've made at least four times before.  I bought this pattern for a SWAP some years ago that required an accessory and I've continued that inspiration.
