Something for Spring

I have moved on to Spring sewing. I am boycotting winter. I have made another McCalls 5522 . I have already made this version using silk from Mood.
After two abysmal failures, I needed a quick win. OK, unfortunately this is not a quick win. This is not a hard pattern, it is just tedious. It includes buttons, lots of hand sewing and a stand up collar - all components that take a bit of time.

The fabric is a beautiful teal Swiss dot cotton. The real stuff. It was a joy to sew. I got if from from G Street. I hand stitched the hems, facings and collar stand. I didn't want any top stitching to compete with the dots.

The buttons ended up being a trial. Unbelievably, I had no buttons that would match from the button stash - every other color known to man, but evidently not light teal.
I grabbed my coupon and headed for JoAnns - and nothing even close. Next stop, G Street. G Street keeps their buttons in boxes behind the counter. You know they are going to be expensive (OK they are beautiful, but expensive!) They had some perfect teal glass flower buttons - only four of them. No way could I go less than 5. Sigh. Oh, well, covered buttons it is. I am an expert at covered buttons. I made 75 for my wedding dress.

Nothing to See Here But Snow

This is our front yard this weekend.

Here is a video of our front yard.

We got an additional 7 inches yesterday. The kids have been home all week and we are all loosing our minds.

I have been sewing, but without much success. I traced and cut out Burda
2/2009-137. (Gotta love those plus size poses.)

It was not good. Not at all flattering. I made a muslin and with tweeks thought I could make it work. But it was not to be. I made the top (sans skirt) with sweater knit I got from Denver Fabrics. Thankfully, I only spent $8 on the fabric. It is very unflattering. I don't think any amount of tweeking is going to make this pattern look good on me.

I next attempted Vogue V2980. Yikes. Total disaster. Bosoms for days. I used a black slinky knit with a white floral pattern.

This is where my projects ended up - in the trash.

I am now sewing another version of McCalls 5522 out of teal
Swiss Dot cotton I got from G Street. Hopefully, this will provide me with some sewing satisfaction.
