captain crunch.

tuesday afternoon two or more can play this game. the objectives of the game are simple: maneuver your way into a position where you have leverage on the others. to do so, it's a no holes barred affair. slamming another person's intellect and questioning his or her integrity is essential. feeling bad is not necessary if not discouraged. showing mercy is a sin. most importantly, once you start, there's no turning back.

welcome to the new game of life.

nasty times ahead.

meanwhile, some things that happened on saturday was a farce. for someone who is about to handover responsibilities as a student leader, it is somewhat surprising (though i shouldn't be) that he still tried to play some games up to the very end. but oh well.. how does one manipulate the friend of another? scratch that, how does one manipulate an ex-friend, in the hopes of getting back at another ex-friend, both of whom happen to be very good friends now? interesting thoughts i say.

work's a bitch. i find myself cooped up in the library from 9am till 11pm almost everyday, staring at my laptop and all the documents that we have to complete by then. it's almost bordering on obsessiveness.

edit:
there's a fine line and between paying for one's mistakes and having others to pay for it.

whirlwind.

monday evening the past couple of weeks have gone by in a flash. exams are very near and the datelines for remaining assignments are this friday. add to that i've got two presentations to do this week... well, it's going to be one hell of a busy week.

things haven't gone all well and dendy for varying reasons but i suppose it's times like these where you really know your limits and push yourself past them to get what you want. but to what extent do you do it?

birthday was a surprise. went to sydney on saturday for the il divo concert and returned back to canberra yesterday evening. of all places to be surprised, the gang turned up at the bus station and caught me when i was groggy from sleeping through the 3 hour journey back. i think i said "what the fcuk" a little too loudly.. hahaha.. but oh well. dinner was a quiet affair (as compared to last year's) at a thai restaurant. apparently none of us have been there before so it was pretty new to everyone. the food was decent and the service was pretty good. all in all, a pretty good birthday weekend.

and the shit part is catching the flu bug from a couple of people who have been sick for a long time. i can feel the soreness in my throat and the body ache's starting to kick in when i'm tired. not cool. not when i'm about to run head first into crunch time. bah.. bring on the herbal tea!

1st week.

monday morning the two weeks that i dreaded are over. it started off with the ssa night. things did not start off well with critical things falling foul of murphy's law and plain stupidity. in any case, the night as a whole went pretty well until the last bit when some people decided that personal agendas were the best way to end the night in front of dignitaries from the singapore high commission.

it was a mad rush to unpack and transport everything back to ursula hall the same night, resting somewhat for one day on friday before i headed out to sydney for the northern beaches open. we lost the first game 10-1 to glebe fc, won 5-4 against bondi raptors and lost 11-1 against northern beaches stingrays. there was to be another game on sunday but i left on saturday night, meeting up with some anu people for dinner before hiangyang drove jocely and i back in the rain.

the tournament as a whole was a surprise to me - both in a good and bad way. it was bad because we went into the tournament with only 8 outfield players. 1 of them got injured in the 1st game thus leaving only 2 subs for the rest of the games. that meant that we were all pretty much burnt out. the highlight for me was scoring a hat-trick in the 2nd game (a quick wrist shot from the right of the goal when a rebound came to me; a running drag shot near the half-way line and a drag shot after a short pass from a free hit just in front of the half-way line). i was a bit surprised with my 3rd goal considering i released the shot on my weaker side and the ball flew into the top left corner when i was aiming for the top right. but hey, it's still a hat trick and i won the man-of-the-match award for my efforts.

we reached back canberra at around 2am (i think) and i promptly went to sleep. had to wake up early at around 7-ish to round up some people before we headed to the singapore high commission for the singapore community day. the band equipment was set up on friday with us all set to play in the cold before the high commissioner and one of the first secretaries decided to let us move everything indoors to avoid the somewhat bitter cold and chilly wind. it didn't help also that it was raining on and off throughout the event. what was supposed to be a background event turned out to be the main event for the day. people flogged around to watch us perform and it was heartening that everyone applauded and encouraged us to play more songs. we played through our entire repertoire - all 24 songs - and we felt it was just right. headed back after everything ended, spent a fair bit of time hanging out in don's room in the evening before i headed back to sleep after dinner.

woke up early to catch my flight to melbourne, meeting up with a few others to catch a cab to the hotel. melbourne as a whole was pretty good, being able to catch up with some friends and having pretty much a relaxing time. there was no set itinerary and we pretty much decided to do things on the snap.

this coming week looks to be busy, having project meetings just about everyday, the need to finish up 2 reports (at least) and then heading up to sydney again this saturday for the australia v netherlands game before coming back on sunday afternoon.

daylight savings time kicked in at 1am on sunday so canberra's now 3 hours ahead of singapore instead of 2. being the starting of daylight savings, it takes a bit of getting used to the perceived 1 hour lost on rest/work. oh well...
