idiot's guide to rotting at home

messy.

saturday morning and into full swing we go.. had dinner and "post-dinner activities" with the eGarage people as well as geri, ade and mad. 14 people in all! well okay. ade came later after most of them have left. but! it's still a joy to have been able to meet up with all of them again albeit we just met up last saturday.

it was a bit mellow in the sense that a lot of them wished me good luck for school and all that, making it sound as if i wouldn't be coming back at all. that said, it was a good feeling knowing that friends you care for and trust in, truly reciprocate the feeling and trust. so it's all good.

EIC was back to their usual selves playing great songs and the crowd at wala's singing along and all but it was a tad disappointing tonight that they chose to play songs back to back to back. as such, a lot of dedications won't read out so geri missed hers (haha! again!) and i think shaun wrote one too. so we heard neither of them but! we'll try our luck on sunday!

the journey home was, well, hilarious thanks to you-know-who. my goodness. it's damn funny to see how some people behave when they're absolutely tired. some people just laze around and act as if they're well, tired. but noOoo. you-know-who was high. haha! i feel a tinge of regret for not hanging out with her more back in poly. darn those curfews! ha!

not that i can turn back the clock anymore, so we'll just make do with whatever time we have left yes? anyhows. it's 4 bloody am and i'm still wide awake. i think my bio clock's messed up for good.. shite!

poly class gathering later today before i hit phuture with some friends. i'll be so dead come sunday morning. my last few bits of packing still needs to be done and i've yet to decide which shoes i want to bring over (wow, i sound like a girl) and whether or not i want to bring my drum sticks as well.

and oh, before i attempt to sleep, thanks prata kaki for the customized notebook! i won't chuck it one side for sure. but i'm not sure whether i'll use it though. hahaha!

prologue.

wednesday morning and so it's started, the thank yous, the goodbyes, and the rush to meet up with people whom i've not seen in a while. and it's not as if i'll be gone for good but 2 years sure is a long time as compared to 1. in any case, i'll be back for the holidays so it's all good. but it's always good to know that your friends still care and are willing to go the extra mile just to meet up.

so first things first, egarage gathering went well albeit for the rooftop lights failing to work until my dad got it sorted out (thanks!). i was put off by a certain person whom i haven't really liked since poly but due to politeness, it was only fair that he came along too. in any case, i was irritated with his constant ramblings about army and what-not even as we were trying to celebrate shuren's and wenru's birthday. but it was good all the same. was glad that we managed to pull of a prank on wenru. hah!

then we've got wala buddy aka geri. haha! welcome home my dear! went to holland village with her and shaun to check out this dessert place called 2am dessert bar. wasn't too bad though it's a bit pricey. the ambience was great and the lady that served us was funny. check it out, it's a darn cool place to go for dessert.

headed to wala wala after that. the band was great, especially the drummer. well okay. i'm being biased because i play the drums so of course i pay more attention to the drummer than anyone else. hah!

in any case, australia beckons. university is but 3 weeks away and i'm really looking forward to this new experience and journey. for sure it'll be different because of the culture and language (english!). but before i've even reached australia, i'm already so pissed off with the way my accommodation application's been going. it's been a good 2 months and i've yet to get any replies. perplexed is an understatement. i'm seriously contemplating making a rucus when i get down to anu. gah.

so okay. that's it for the night. back to my book. want to finish it by tonight before i start on the next book. hah!

and oh! great to have you back in singapore buddy! (:

awake and bored.

friday morning 2 more weeks before i fly off and my packing's about three quarters done but my room's still in a mess so i'm in for some cleaning up before the egarage gang comes crashing in on saturday. think it'll be cool. most of us back together after 2 years, eating pizza at the rooftop garden. hah! it'll be a sight.

anyways, my new found wala wala buddy is coming back! yay! ms tan! hurry on back (yes yes. tomorrow morning) and we'll travel all the way to holland village every friday and sunday night. darn it. feels as if we're going back to school again yes? hahaha..

okay. i've just taken 15 minutes to write this whole entry and i realised music & lyrics is on hbo now. so! off to the movies (sort of) before portugal takes on germany... and for the record, netherlands for the win!

australian incompetency.

monday it's disturbing and discouraging to know that your friends around you have gotten their confirmations for their accommodation and you haven't. darn it. it's even more frustrating considering i paid the fees in december and applied for the hall on the day applications opened.. i really am perplexed. really..

counting down...again.

sunday morning was back in ngee ann on thursday. so, after a long layoff (2 years to be exact), i picked up my sticks and started playing floorball again. boy was i in for a shock. my stamina isn't anywhere as near as i thought it was. considering i could still do 2.4km in 10:45, i thought i was in good shape to have a proper game.

after two shifts of 3 minutes each, i was feeling the strain and i decided it was time to take it slow. so instead of my usual hard running and dribbling as a winger/forward, i became more of a playmaker, holding the ball and distributing it around the court for hubert, kenneth and yuxun to try to score.

so yes. i'm horribly out of shape. i guess i've got a long road ahead of me in terms of building up my stamina again.

in other news. bought myself a new laptop at the IT show. funnily enough, i was fixed on getting myself a HP before shuren showed me the Asus brochure. suddenly, i was running around with my dad hunting for the Asus laptop.

finally got it at $2670, not very cheap because it's $170 above budget but.. i think it was a good buy. the specifications were much better than the HP one and well, i guess the freebies were a clincher as well. hah!

and oh! went for the ANU pre-departure brief at orchard hotel just now. i was a bit surprised that there are about 20+ singaporeans headed for ANU. i was expecting somewhere around 15 or less so i guess 20+ isn't all that little for a pretty small school eh?

i'm still piffed that my accommodation in canberra isn't settled yet. the school's yet to reply and i've got less than a month to go before i'm there. doesn't help that i'm flying off on the 1st for my little backpacking/roadtrip around sydney and melbourne. oh well, nothing much i can do now other than writing in to the school again. darn it.

digression: spain just scored 2 minutes into injury time courtesy of david villa. 2-1 win against sweden.

i realised my blog entries aren't making sense anymore. or rather, they are just not very organised. i have a tendency to type out whatever that comes to my mind instead of organising my thoughts and then structuring them like some sort of essay. i wonder why.

Hikaru Utada - First Love

最後のキスはタバコの flavor がした
ニガくてせつない香り

明日の今頃には あなたはどこにいるんだろう
誰を思ってるんだろう

You are always gonna be my love
いつか誰かとまた恋に落ちても
I'll remember to love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
今はまだ悲しい love song
新しい歌 歌えるまで

立ち止まる時間が動き出そうとしてる
忘れたくないことばかり

明日の今頃には わたしはきっと泣いている
あなたを思ってるんだろう

You will always be inside my heart
いつもあなただけの場所があるから
I hope that I have a place in your heart too
Now and forever you are still the one
今はまだ悲しい love song
新しい歌 うたえるまで

You are always gonna be my love
いつか誰かとまた恋に落ちても
I'll remember to love
You taught me how
You are always gonna be the one
まだ悲しい love song
Now and forever

ORD!

saturday morning and so the day has passed. after 2 years of service to the nation, i've done my duty and i'm now a civilian once again. well scratch that, i'm a student once again. hah!

it's been a see-saw 2 years. really. it was literally filled with sweat, blood and tears. for all the many ups and downs, i think what they say is true. army (or national service for that matter) makes you a better person whether you want to or not. at the same time, the experience gained with working with people of all walks of life, well, let's just say it can't get any more colorful than it is.

2 years. i've been very fortunate to have been able to spend half of it in taiwan. maybe it wasn't something i wanted nor was it an opportunity that i would have passed up on but really, it was one hell of a chance and experience. of course i have my complaints and all yet in the end, i think i came out a better person. the life skills i picked up would serve me well in canberra (and life in general) and i have only one regret: that i was not able to make friends with those that i did a little earlier; by which of course i refer to my taiwanese friends.

that said, there are other regrets and bitterness with my entire 2 years. bitter that i wasn't able to be an officer. regretted not being able to fulfill a childhood dream. apologetic even for breaking a promise that i made to marilyn. but all in all, i think i did good this 2 years.

it doesn't matter anymore if i'm a REC, PTE, LCP, CPL, 3SG, 2SG, 2LT or even LTA. rank goes out the window when you're in the civilian world.

so then. i was in camp at 0800, hoping to leave camp by 1030. alas, i was only able to collect my COS (certificate of service), my newly issued ranks and other mementos at 1130. spent most of the time surfing the net in the s1 branch. who cares eh? hah!

so, to all the mohawk and delta coy people as well as those in taiwan. thank you. you have all made my NS experience that little bit more special. and now, off to the next challenge: tackling my programming and what-not in uni. haha!

--

i was wondering just now, why do all the michelles i know have to be so attractive? by which i mean the michelle in taiwan, the michelle in melbourne (yes you!) and the one i just got to know a couple of hours a go whilst at wala wala. i think michelles are inherently attractive or am i just that lucky (biased even? ha!)? who cares!

and before i forget, happy birthday mr tree! :D

split second.

tuesday evening every once in a while we stop and question, all that we hold dear, all that we belief in. what does it all mean? why the belief and why the faith?

for that split second just this afternoon, i questioned myself. i questioned my abilities in doing some of the things that i've been doing for so long that it has become second nature. i guess sometimes we all need a little reassurance in ourselves. that reassurance came from michelle (the taiwan one..hahaha!) today and i'm glad and thankful for it.

in other news.

happy birthday mr julian sng! you're older and wiser (we hope). i'll see you in a month. have a smashing time with and/or without your work. haha..

of phlegm and mucus.

tuesday morning let me correct myself with regards to the previous entry. nights are never the same anymore. gone are the nightly phone calls, the midnight suppers at "tea street". no more chilling at the 24 hour bookshop when i want to. no more walking around the neighborhood at night in a cool breeze. no more 7-11 for those hunger pangs and definitely no more crazy nights with the bb gun and human targets. hah!

and oh. i've got a crap load of phlegm and mucus in me i'm positive that i'll just puke it all out sooner or later. hah..

well, so much for a midnight rant. up at 8 to watch the stanley cup finals.

Sunday, June 01, 2008

a week later.

sunday well well. it's been a week and i still haven't unpacked my stuff. hah! partly because i've been procrastinating and partly because the weather's been a bitch and i'm only beginning to recover from a very bad cough. bring on the aussie winter!

still miss them taiwan friends. damnit. weekend nights will never be the same again. ever.
