Morel Mushrooms

One of the most anticipated rites of spring here in Ohio is morel mushroom season. They are a very hot commodity, selling for over a hundred dollars per pound at the local farmers auction.
Fans of the elusive wild morel are very secretive and tight-lipped about their favorite hunting spots.
Weather conditions have to be just right for the morels to grow. Some years they are plentiful, while other years are a disappointment. Two years ago was one of those record years. A friend of mine found over 2,000 that year.  This year people are finding them but not like some years. We managed to find enough to make a little meal. My favorite way to eat them is to roll them in flour and fry them in butter.  They are delicious!!!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could figure out how to propagate these?
