Mahogany Dresser Redesign

We found this dresser at a garage sale.  See below it was pretty messed up.  That drawer to the side would not even fit into its spot.

Its mahogany though and Mr. Sensible sanded down the top.  (he likes sanding I. DO. NOT.)  It turned out so pretty.  I just put a clear Poly on the top of it.  I painted the body of the piece with Sherwin Williams Crisp Linen and the drawers with Benjamin Moore Lenox Tan.  Distressed it and put on a clear wax.

From the Picking Trip

It has come to my attention that posting once a week is making me really far behind on project sharing. 

Or I am producing a larger quantity of furniture BUT I have a stock pile of posts so there will be more posts people.  I know you can hardly wait..........

Anyhow here we go with a piece we found when we went to middle GA and bought some pieces of furniture.

 This coffee table has great detail on the sides of it and is a bit higher than most older coffee table so I thought it would be a good candidate for a Redesign.

 I painted it with Behr Ultra Premium mixed in Sherwin Williams color Crisp Linen.  Then distressed it by hand so I wouldn't loose all the pretty details.  Added clear Wax over the distressing and Poly on the top. 

All ready to go to the store. Treasures Resale Consignment Store Roswell GA  Hopefully she will find a great new home. :)

Framed Chalkboards

When we went to Chattanooga a few weeks ago we had to stop in some thrift stores and look what I found....

 I know they don't look like much two picture frames but I had ideas.....

I painted the first one grey then glazed over it with white, painted the glass with chalkboard paint and we have a great chalkboard maybe for the kitchen?

 The second one I painted with Anne Sloans Old White Caulk Paint and distressed it.  Then put on clear wax and painted the glass with chalk board Paint.  Awesome!

I really like using glass for the chalk paint because it goes on so smooth.  I use a small 4 inch foam roller and put two coats on.  Works like a charm.  I do feel that I have to put a note on the back that the chalkboard is indeed glass so BE CAREFUL don't want to break it.

I recently found a blog about Chalk Ink goes on like paint rubs off with water and won't smudge like the above picture.
I ordered some,  as of yet I have not tried it.

Looking forward to my next chalkpaint project to give the Chalk Ink a whirl

 Here is a project I enjoy...

It started out kind of rough....

 A couple of chairs were in BAD shape,  Mr. Sensible Redesign helped glue and screw them back together using a whole bunch of   few of his clamps.

Recovering the seats is the project I enjoy. Above you can see what they looked like before.

Here is the after. I like the project because I have a pneumatic upholstery stapler.  mauh ha ha ha it is the bomb!!  Makes recovering seats SO easy.

6 seats recovered in an hour.  Awesomeness!!  I also love it when the pattern lines up perfectly.

Have you ever seen seats that curve?  I had never seen any like this before.

Lucky for me someone else painted the chairs. :)

Childs Little Red Bench

We found this headboard and foot board on our trip to Chattanooga.

 Mr. Sensible Redesign took it home and made a childs bench out of it like we did here.

We cut the footboard in half and attached the cut edges to the headboard added a seat and painted it RED!

 Took it off to Treasures Resale Consignment Store and put it up for sale!

French Nightstand

 I painted this nightstand for a client. 

This is what I started with

 This was their inspiration picture

 This was the first step using Anne Sloans chalk Paint in Old White and Paris Grey.  I painted the body of the piece with a coat of Paris Grey and the accents in Old White.

 When that was dry I dry brushed on a golden brown color and a darker Grey.  When those were dry (only took a few minutes cause it was pretty dry to start with) I added some white with a dry brush.

 The client wanted a Fleur De Lis added to each door.  She even gave me the exact one to use.  I scanned it in and enlarged it.  Traced it onto each door.

 Then painted it white.

 In this photo you can see that I added some contrast with the brown paint on the Fleur De Lis.

After that painting was done I distressed the piece letting some of the wood show through.

Mr. Sensible Redesign also helped out on this piece by sanding down the top and getting out the rather large gouges that were there.  We stained the top and added two coats of Poly.

 After the distressing I used clear and dark wax on the piece to add some dimension.
