Wonderful World of Color

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Color blog hop brought to us by Joan of moosestashquilting

When I first heard the title of this hop 1 and only 1 idea popped into my head and I haven't been able to shake it.

This is what came to me.

Many of you are probably too young to understand it. but none the less its what I think of when I hear the statement  Wonderful World Of Color.

I hunted down several photos on line and was able to print them out on some white fabric.

Then what....I found what I wanted but had no idea what I wanted to do with them. They were a tad too big for mug rugs and I'm not a pillow person or a table runner user except for the holidays. So right now I'm floating between lunch mats or a series of wall hangings.  Maybe I'll try them for a luncheon, one without wine or red sauce then convert them to a wall hanging. hmmmmmm

Tinkerbell is my favorite.

I did some digging in my stash and came up with a very Wonderful World of Color addition for my mini's borders. The mini's ended up at 10 x 12.5

Thanks so much Joan for this fun hop. I know those of you who are old enough do appreciate it for the memories it brings to mind.  My biggest memory is that I watched a lot of it in Black and White, ha, ha

Please visit all of the participants in this great hop and leave them a note if you can. Here is a list of all of the people in this hop.

Time in a Bottle Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the   Time In A Bottle   Blog Hop. This event has been coordinated by Carol of    Just Let Me Quilt    to whom we owe great thanks for her time and effort for us to have another play date.

When Carol and the team posted about this months title I was all in. My brain was very excited because I had never in all the years that I have been quilting, made an hour glass quilt. Yes I know we didn't have to make an hour glass quilt but since I had never done one, now was the perfect time.  What I did find out was that where I may not have ever made an hour glass quilt I had, but not registered that I had, made hour glass blocks on my path to somewhere else.

I am a quilter who tends to follow patterns. So if a pattern said to make HST's and join them as in diagram 3, I did that. That it made an hour glass block never registered.  Looking back on my quilting accomplishments I see many hour glass blocks in their  various hiding places like in pin wheel blocks and many secondary patterns.

At about the time I started this project the list of organizations participating in this years   Hands 2 Help 2022   was posted. One of the organizations, Mercyful Quilts, mentioned quilts for Veterans so I went to my stash and pulled some Red, White and Blue and using Carol's tutorial for Hour Glass Blocks got going. By the way if you are interested, H2H22 kicks off this coming weekend.

The tutorial was great and I was amazed at how quickly I was able to knock out these blocks.

The only negative to this block is that I really needed to do some squaring up. OK lots of squaring up.  But once again like making the blocks, putting them together was also a quick and easy do.

So  I have accomplished 2 things by participating in this hop, making an hour glass quilt and a quilt for the H2H 22 project. WIN, WIN. Thanks Carol.

Below is a list of all of the participants in this weeks event.  If you haven't stopped by yet to see what all of these talented ladies have come up with yet do yourself a favor and visit.  If you can, also let them know how great they are.  Til next time.

Tickled Pink

Welcome to my day for being Tickled Pink.  When Carla announced this hop I was truly Tickled Pink because I was actually going to be able to take one of my UFO's out of the to do box and get it done.

Can you guess where this is headed?

How about now?

Well now I actually have a friend who is having a baby and I thought her 5 year old daughter would be in need of a big sister quilt and I think this fits the bill perfectly.

Isn't she sweet?

The back is a pinky - purply grunge dot.
I will be making one of the Easy Peasy back packs to "wrap" this quilt in using the qrunge.

I originally made 2 of these tops based on the  Sew Fresh Quilts DOGGO pattern.

They are from Lorna McMahon of Sew Fresh quilts  https://sewfreshquilts.com/.  I love her patterns.  I think this is the 5th or 6th one of her patterns  I have done. I also know that I have done each one more than once.  This time, One in Blue and then one in Pink.  I'm not sure why other than I just keep falling in love with her designs. I had no little ones in mind when  I made them.

Such a great feeling of accomplishment.

So far this has been a wonderfully Pink week. Here is a complete list of the participants for your viewing pleasure.  Many thanks to Carla for another great hopping event.

Polar Plunge - BRRRRRRRR and a mini but warm give away

I've always been amazed by the people who participate in these Polar Plunge annual events around the country. I have never had any desire to participate at all,  brrrrrrr but I do admire those who do.

When this hop was announced by Joan (thank you, oh creative one) I knew it would be a super creative experiment for one and all.

What I discovered while coming up with an idea for this event  is that living for the past few years in Central Florida I wasn't really Feeling One with The Polar Air anymore but I did want to do something Polar vs doing something in winter blues.

One of my favorite sources of ideas is Clip Art.  While out there searching I found these adorable models who perfectly depicted the message I wanted to share.  The Florida version of Polar Plunging.

Once I had the idea for the design I had to come up with an idea for its use.  I have used this idea before but at least it isn't my usual fall back mug rug.  This time I'm using the design for a kitchen drying mat.

oops I hadn't done faces yet.

so much cuter

I have an old friend moving down to Florida this year from the North East and I thought that the mat with a couple of dish towels would be a great welcome to your soon to be new home gift and not to big to add extra boxes to her packing up. Actually she is the one who introduced me to the drying mat concept last year.

Last minute addition

So living in Central Florida is mild to very warm most of the year.  This week we got down to the 30's and we had lots of frost. Sorry  I didn't get to take a photo Monday morning because it actually looked like a light coating of snow.

But what it did do was give me an idea for another item for this hop, not polar bear but the warm blues.  On Monday morning, yes 3 days ago, when we saw the frost we were on our way to the vets. My car has heated seats but not a heated steering wheel and by the time I got home my gloveless hands were frozen. The best way I could warm them up was using a very, very old rice bag.

It did still do it's job and I was grateful but I decided it really was time to make a new one but then I had a better idea.

I decided that maybe making 2 smaller ones, hand size, would be even better.

Here is the rice bag,  easy access pillow cover front and back

bag half in its cover

2 completed bags

bag (5 x 5) in my not very big hand

So on Monday night of this week I whipped out these blue checked ones.

And on Tuesday night I made this set for a friend of ours who has neuropathy issues in his hands and is always complaining of the cold.  For the record the set takes less than 30 minutes to make. They are made of 100% cotten, inside pillow, washable outside pillow case and all thread with uncooked rice filling so that it is safe to micro wave. They are about 5 inches square.

So now that I have hopefully warmed you up some, please continue  visiting all of the participants of this COOOOOL Hop.  Here is a handy dandy list of all of us for your viewing pleasure.

Oh I almost forgot I have a pair of these to give away.  If you are in the US I will send them finished including rice.  If you are international I will send them without the rice and you will need to fill and add that closing seam.  Just leave a note in your comment that you would be interested in being in the draw that I will be doing on Monday.
