as another weekend draws to a close, i find myself facing the daunting prospect of another long work week.

I have come to the painful realization that being a nice guy doesnt work. just goes to show my youthful innocent naivety. some people can get away with almost anything, but i, being the nice guy, gets raped for 1)committing some trivial errors 2) not doing anything wrong at all. Nice guys are perfect for being back stabbed.

in the past, i have been given ridculous punishments such as having to treat the ENTIRE branch to a meal, resulting in two thirds my pathetic monthly $1.80-an-hour salary being wiped out in a single afternoon. i mean, what the fuck right? what kind of screwed up punishment is that? and for stupid trivial errors. Its amazing how i didnt think it was that bad back then. I cant imagine the shitstorm that would happen if my parents knew this kind of thing happened to me. it has gotten to the point that whenever i walk across the office, i stare straight ahead, for fear of being arrowed, as if i am like a walking archery target.

my friend has been right in saying that i often do stupid things which make me even more of a target, kind of like 'digging my own grave'. so i guess i just have to be really serious and do things right to cover my own ass. No more 'blur' jon anymore.

the annoying thing is, i feel like i have lost. i always had pride in the belief that i was emotionally 'un-fazable' and would never be affected by anything. I think that this recent episode has been evidence against that, and thank goodness i know this now, before i start real work.

Perhaps the move to our new office served as the catalyst for my sudden shift in attitude. And hopefully last week was just the sudden reverse reaction, and that this coming week will be filled with less negativity, for the sake of my friendships.

it is amazing sometimes how some people's mere presence can change the atmosphere of a place so dramatically. My office has a couple of these type of characters, i shan't say who so all i'll say is that during the recent short period of this certain person's absence, office life felt blissful. I think a flower would wilt and die instantly in this person's aura.

sigh, feeling a bit guilty about disliking this person so much. maybe im being unfair. it just isnt my character to dislike somebody like this, i never have before, but i just cant help it...

something's been going wrong with me these past few days, i've been very short-tempered and moody, at the expense on my friends and gf (sorry babes). sigh.

oh and i burnt my finger on a fondue flame yesterday, didnt help my mood, but u may go ahead and laugh.

Karting!

woo woo just got back from karting with my buddy casey. It was raining and the track was really wet. And i have to say, driving with slick tyres on a wet surface is pretty, interesting... It was my first time and quite an experience, and we fun karters had to share the track with the pros (who own their own karts) which is usually no problem but in this case, our helmets had no face shields so we kept on getting sprayed in the face with water and sand when the fast guys overtook us. The pics here are of the pro guys not us:)

a view of the track

Sand makes an interesting noise when chewed on. *crunch* *crunch*. I need my own kart!!!! those idiots with their rotax engines and rain tyres just treated us like obstacles (which we were actually). i wish the rental karts were faster like in the old days, instead of these stupid 4-stroke pieces of shit we get now where you can fall asleep on the straights. but because of the rain it was plenty interesting in the corners!

this guy is also on slicks. see how wet it is out there!

~~~~~~~~~~Note: boring technical part starting, kailyn u may stop reading here~~~~~~~~~~
As i said earlier driving in the wet is very interesting and very different to driving in the dry. Basically the first half of my first lap i was really plagued by severe understeer, the front tyres had no grip at all! i quickly learnt that steering is almost impossible under braking, so had to adapt and learn to brake much earlier and steer with power. I was kinda confused coz in our karts the brakes are on the rear axle so logically speaking under hard braking the rear would lock up and you would experience oversteer not oversteer, this is true in the dry, but for some reason in the wet the front has almost no grip when braking. I later learnt that yes, u do get oversteer under very heavy braking, but in moderate braking all u get is understeer (wet driving is tough!).
so basically i *think* the fastest way around is to 1) brake super damn early in a straight line before the corner 2) delicately balance the power through the corner and through the exit. Point 2 basically brought out another problem, oversteer. severe understeer at the entry of a corner suddenly becomes oversteer at the exit. This was the one of the toughest things about driving in the wet coz it is pretty easy to overcome the understeer at the start, but in the wet there is almost no warning of an impending slide at the exit, and once it starts it is very difficult to catch. spins were inevitable:)
to sum up, driving in the wet is all about discipline! The temptation to go too fast is great, temptation to brake later will cause you to end up straight into the tyre wall and temptation to floor the accelerator early will cause you to end up facing the wrong way round. Awesome!!
*all the following comments are based on what i felt and are not the definitive techniques of driving by any measure ;P
even with wet tyres this guy is fighting oversteer through the chicane
happy new year!!!!
Happy new year!!! Boy I’m slow hehehe.
Anyways went to watch the Singapore-Myanmar match last night wif my sec school buddies, kerby and bryan plus two of their friends. we didnt get grandstand seats so got pretty soaked. Was wearing my pro timberland waterproof jacket so i was kinda smarmy about being dry while the rest got wet hehe. one thing i noticed, my jacket wasnt as good as before. there used to be this coating on top which caused the water to bead up on the jacket, preventing it from being absorbed. but my maids went to wash it last year and its not been the same since. sigh.
anyways the match was a joke. we won but it was nothing to be proud of, we really didnt deserve it. the tension got quite high in the match and i think there one or two clashes between fans post-match, england style.
ok now for the profound thought of the day: which car do obnoxious drivers seem to drive the most. the answer? toyota camry. dont know why, but most of the speeding, tail-gating, horning assholes are in camry's. hmm. no offence to the majority of the civil camry drivers, but think those idiots should piss off.
oh and my dad got caught for speeding. was a bit chuffed coz he is always lecturing me on not speeding and how "they will take away my licence etc" but was also very alarmed coz my dad does not drive fast. so basically no one is safe. hmm.
