lalala

I now know why i decided to make this blog... its for times like this, its late, you're bored and you dont feel like sleeping. bleah. i originally intended for this blog to be less of a 'diary' type blog and be filled with interesting, funny, and maybe even thought-provoking entries. But so far it seems to be quite diary-like, nothing of particular note stewing in my head. hmmm. haha will be on the look out for them.

so to continue the 'diary' trend, i shall now recount the fun events of yesterday and today. met my sweet gf for lunch then went for a swim (wanted to tan) at buona vista swimming pool. i had a stomach ache and had a crap there. had a panick attack when i realised there was no toilet paper in the cubicle, but thankfully found some and all was well. dont mean to be a snob, but the cleanliness of BV swimming pool leaves somewhat to be desired. a small gripe that i have about the place. later while tanning, there was this woman on a deck chair next to me, who for the sake of a 'less defined tan line', lay there practically topless. hehe that was quite interesting.

later i met yanice (plus her friends) who is back from melbourne for the easter hols. we ate at crystal jade kitchen, and they laughed at my surefire. haha quite expected. at least they said it was bright.... then went to watch starsky and hutch. it was v good!! it was really funny and not overly slapstick. excellent movie. Then we went bowling. yeah my bowling sucks. then yanice and i went to zouk. its the first time ive been there, and i must say, of all the clubs ive been to, i enjoyed the music (retroish) that the most of all. understandable i guess coz im not much of a r&b person. hahaha was also really funny to see all the choreographed moves for all the songs. hahahaha.

today my gf came over to hangout at my house after sch. she then had to return for some airrifle commitee thing. she left her bio S thing at my house, so had to meet her again after that. met at city hall, ran into edwin (now likes to be called eddie) and had dinner at cafe cartel. shall now complain again: cafe cartel food sucks!!! ookok it doesnt suck, its just not great.

yeah okie thats all bye bye

new song that im in to:
joan jett - hate myself for loving you (i cant find the tab!! argh!!)

i'm tired

For the past 2 or three weeks, I've been training swimming in SICC (for the sake of fitness) with a bunch of little kids. The oldest ones are J1 (one year younger) but the majority are like sec 2. I feel like an old grandpa, coz im both the oldest and the slowest. argh. its pretty humiliating when you see kids 20cm shorter whiz by effortlessly past you, sai. oh well at least im not getting any slower.

todays session was the toughest so far but in a good way. was aching like hell from the gym last night and was full coz had a late lunch. but the session felt good (thou im damn tired now).

okie bye for now.

Hellboy

Went to watch hellboy with my girlfriend at ps today.

Ok before i begin talking about it, i have to warn you that it has spoilers, ie dont read on if u want the movie to be a surprise.

The movie was... alright. I definately think it could have been much better. It was one of those movies which "had potential", so to speak. I think this because the plot was quite intriguing. Imagine: the nazis use black magic to summon a demon from hell to help them win the war against the allies. Sound interesting right? The movie starts off well, keeping you in anticipation but it all too soon becomes 'normal'. The character hellboy himself is a little too human. He is not special enough. He really just becomes a big red human being, rather than a demon from some evil place. This is where I think the movie's biggest flaw is. Hellboy loses much of the allure and charisma he had at the beginning. aiyah if u watch it you will know what i mean. The story line isnt very clear too.

There are also quite a few holes here and there, which leaves you feeling a bit confused, for example how rasputin (yes, that russian guy) is involved in all of this.

Another thing is hellboys enemies. They all look the same!! They all are slimey, tentacled and many-eyed creatures. Even the so-called evil 'gods' at the end of the show. How anticlimatic.

Overall, it was an 'okay' movie. I am probaby making it sound a lot worst than it actually is, coz i mainly talked about the bad aspects of it. It was definately entertaining, but could have been a lot more. If i were to give it a score, i'd say 68%.

Ok that’s enough hellboy for now. I dropped my surefire!!!! *sniff* *sniff* it now has this ugly ding on the bezel boo hoo! But it still works perfectly, guess it’s a testament to its durability.

Oh also made a solo recording on my home page, its the song "to the moon and back" by savage garden. on the site I say it was pretty good, but ignore all of that i just had another listen and I think its terrible haha.

another thing, i realise that the title of my below post is incredibly stupid. I mean "passing my final theory test to drive in a lotus to newsroom bar"? gosh where did i get that from? was just trying to be clever and link all the happenings during the weekend into one sentence. what a dumbass

passing my final theory test to drive in a lotus to newsroom bar

ok 1 entry for the weekend... this is gonna be a long one

Went to a party last night at newsroom bar. I think it is the nicest club i been to so far. Its pretty big so u can a have a decent amount of breathing space to yourself, though the dance floor was really cramped. a bit weird: cramped dance floor but plenty of space elsewhere. think they need to rearrange a bit. anyways after last night I decided that I wont drink anymore due to various reasons listed below.

when i first started to club, i used to be really self-conscious about dancing and all so I would have to drink buckets and get REALLY high before i could enjoy myself and dance. Since then, I've become less self conscious and have gotten even more tolerant of alcohol, so if i wanna get high it usually is quite a effort on my wallet's part. I also will be driving pretty soon, and when I do, I probably wont drink at all coz the penalties of drink driving are seriously scary, your license gets revoked and u get charged (!). Next time ill just use up my free drinks, sip a bit of my friends' drinks here and there and thats it. getting high is usually more about your mind letting go than the amount of alcohol you consume. just laugh a lot and you'll get high hahahaaha. see? (shutup jon)

oh yeah and my surefire came to the rescue!!!!!! you can read about it here. What happened was while dancing my gf dropped her handphone and it sort of exploded into its little pieces (main unit, battery, back cover). She reached down to pick up the pieces but could not find the backcover. So I whip out my surefire and practically burn a hole in the ground with it. Found the backcover a fair distance away. Seriously, without a doubt if i didnt have my surefire we wouldnt have found it. imagine the pitch darkness and all those stepping feet everywhere... impossible. my sf also came to the rescue earlier in the day. too lazy to talk about it now but ill just say it involved being IN (see how useful a waterproof light is?) a swimming pool staring down the big drain thingy.

My dad has been looking out for a new car (even though we just got a new one less than a month ago), specifically something flashy coz all our cars are so practical. If we do end up getting one more we'll have 4 cars which would be a bit ridiculous, anyway went with him to see a old lotus esprit today. It was a red 1980something (forgot) Lotus Esprit 2.2 Turbo. It looks absolutely awesome. Its the kind of car that just stands out so much on the road. I think it would be a real babe magnet haha. However, it is a very old car, and the condition could be better. If we do get it, it would require an extensive amount of work, like a new paint job, re-upholster the interior, overhaul the engine etc. Thats all expected, however, the one thing that i didnt like about it was the ergonomics. Specifically the pedals. The pedals seem to be set for someone with the leg-length of a 4 year old, but whos leg can extend like a dhalsim coz of the really long clutch travel. Its heavy too. the front wheel arch also sticks out abrubtly into your footwell, meaning that your rightfoot will scrape along it as u use operate the accelerator pedal. yay. It is basically impossible to drive the car with normal shoes. u would need to wear narrow driving shoes or go barefoot. having said all that it is a nice car. will post the pics up later.

another thing that happened this week was that I received my driving final theory test results, and i.... passed!!! Woohoo!! I was really relieved coz prior to that I took several practice tests and I failed all of those. oh well but I passed when it mattered, when it really counts. Several things annoyed me about the test.

Its really irratating how some people just simply cannot read and follow instructions (despite being given in English, Chinese, malay and tamil). In the practice booklets it explicitly says not to mark the book at all, but some idiots still go ahead and circle the answer so I usually know the answer before I even get to read the question. I feel like strangling them!!

Anyway back to the Final theory test. It is really quite a bit harder than the basic test. The basic test is easy coz all you have to do is just study and memorize all the signs etc., but the final theory test involves a bit of thinking and common sense. I have common sense, but that is precisely why it is difficult: some of the questions are vague and don't make sense themselves.

for example: You drive along and see a cyclist ahead travelling in a unsteady manner. what do u do?

a) horn and tell him to piss off and move aside
b) slow down and be ready to stop (if necessary)
c) give him a wider berth when overtaking

now A is obviously wrong. but how about B and C? Either one can be right right? Their answer is C. So, that means if faced with this situation and u slow down you are WRONG. see my point? to make matters worst, one would think that the more 'conservative (ie wussy driver)' answers are usually the way to go, this is true in most cases but in not in this case, B being the more conservative one (but NNOo, its WRONG to slow down).

another type of irritating question are these types:

"how far must u be when overtaking a moving vehicle/stationary vehicle/pedestrian walking in same direction/ pedestrian walking oppostite direction etc etc."

each different object has a SPECIFIC answer. It is ridiculous. A result of our earlier robotic mentality and education system I guess. "oh look, im overtaking a moving vehicle, i must keep 1.5m from it, if I keep 1.49m or 1.51m away i am WRONG!" yeah whateva. why do they even ask these questions in the first place? all these stupid rules really have no meaning in the real world. perception, judgement, confidence, responsibility and skill are what really matter... not knowing to overtake at 1.5m... pff.

misc stuff i did today
-went to the gym
-watched baharian grandprix (too tired to talk about it now)

a very embarrassing morning...

Arghh!! I really feel like a bloody fool. Well as you all may or may not know I am taking driving lessons now. Almost finished learning and soon will be ready to take the test. Anyways I had booked an auto car lesson at 9 for today. So I dutifully got up at 8am, got dressed and proceeded to walk out to get a cab. It is damn difficult to get cabs in the morning, so i ended up calling a cab.

so i arrived at bbdc (bukit batok driving centre), only to find out that my lesson is at 9PM!!!!!!!!!! not 9am!!! 2100hrs!!!!! ARGHH!!

I was so irritated that i again decided to take a cab home (instead of mrt+bus) to make myself feel better.

To add insult to injury, it was the same stupid cab driver who then had a good laugh at my expense. sigh

oh well this really sucks:

1)I spent so much money: I called a cab to go there, so cab fee was $10.90, plus the 6-odd dollars for the cab home.

2)Will have to spend even more money: going swimming at SICC later, so have to take cab there. Then gotta take another cab back to bbdc for my driving lesson. looks like im gonna spend $50 in total on cab fares today. that sucks!! I feel so guilty (and broke)!!

3) got laughed at. 1st by the instructors, then the same taxi driver. oh well not really a big deal kinda used to being laughed at

Overall this experience wasnt soooo bad. In a few weeks I will get my license and then after that there is no more stopping me muahhahahaahahaha!!!!
