Halloween 2013

Yet again Halloween is almost upon us so I hope everyone who celebrates it has a wonderful safe Halloween.
As a kid I remember many good memories around Halloween for the few years my parents let us trick or treat.  I used to love the fireworks watching all the colors explode in the sky.

This chip and dip bowl when I found it said three pieces but the holder for the dip bowl was missing.   I still haven't found another holder.

I can't even remember when or where I found this tin.  I thought it was a good fit for this post.

I have not found many Fire King / Anchor Hocking mugs lately.  But I found this one last week.  I'm not sure if it was on my Saturday marathon secondhand store shopping day.

This past week I found this Butterfly Gold 2 casserole dish at my favourite secondhand store.

This Corvette model car I found at a secondhand store.  I bought it with a good plan for it.  My nephew collects model cars and corvettes are his favourite.  He has a model truck from my dad's collection I would like so I thought here's my chance to trade with him.  On Thanksgiving I showed it to him I was ready to make a deal with him to trade.  But no my plan unravelled when he said it was nice and he already had it.

These pictures are from someone Else's photos.  I don't know if these are Halloween pictures or just them dressed in costumes.

Thanks for visiting.

Reminders Of My Grandmother

This past weekend my cousin came out on Saturday and we got in the car and hit 7 local secondhand stores and 9 in the surrounding area.  We even managed to get lunch in between.  The only problem with my cousin and me going together is we both like a lot of the same items.  It's a challenged to see who gets through the door first and who finds the things the other one would like first.  We're at the point now were we say if you don't get it I will.  Boy did I get a lot of stuff.  As soon as I get the pictures done I'll post my finds.

These plastic containers reminded me of my grandmother.  I'm not sure why they do they just do.

This pamphlet I found in my grandmothers stuff it's B.C. Electric Home Service News from October 1948 it has recipes, tips for sending things overseas for Christmas and things they might like for Christmas in England since there were still shortages because of the war.

                                                                              More Fall Color Pyrex.

This small blue art glass vase I found at the local flea market.  It has no markings the lady who sold it to me said it is Yugoslavian glass.

This brooch is unsigned but made me think of Fall.

I found this biscuit tin and thought with the ducks on it, it would be good to get to use in a Fall display.

I do not know who's in the car but I'm guessing the car might be a Ford at Central Park in New York 1916.

The little girl is either my boyfriends mother or her sister.

Thanks for visiting.

Happy Thanksgiving 2013

Take Me Home, Country Roads
Written by John Denver, Taffy Nivert & Bill Danoff

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah river
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin'  like a breeze

Chorus:
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home country roads

All my memories gathered 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye

Chorus:

I hear her voice
In the mornin' hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin' down the road I get a feelin'
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Chorus:

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads

The above picture always makes me think of the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver.  This long weekend in Canada has many people on the roads for Thanksgiving.  To all Canadians Happy Thanksgiving.  We had our family dinner during the weekend so today is all about relaxing.
I decided to look up John Denver's bio and found out he died October 12, 1997 I didn't actually think it had been that long ago.

I found this chip and dip bowl at a secondhand store and added it to my collection.

The basket of yellow Petal Ware dishes by Grindley my boyfriend found for a friend of ours a few weeks back.  I found the honey pot at the same time we got both at The Olde Farmhouse vintage market.

This is my Pyrex share this week it's Town and Country pattern.

This baby painting was done by George Lorimer Keirstead he was a unknown artist who from what I can tell did it as a hobby.

A couple of weekends ago we saw this Nissan Pao which I thought was so cute so I had to take a picture.

Thank you for visiting, hope you enjoyed my finds and treasures.

Some Vintage Market And Antique Show Finds

I've been to a vintage market in Maple Ridge and the antique show in Cloverdale in the last two Saturdays.  The following items are some of my finds.

The above paperweights including the one of the Parliament buildings in Victoria, British Columbia I got this past Saturday at the antique show in Cloverdale.  I should also mention my boyfriend bought me the one of Victoria.  The 1st paperweight in the collage is unsigned, the 2nd one has a sticker that says Isle of Wight hand made in England and the 3rd paperweight had a sticker that had been taken off.

This brooch is a piece of costume jewelry made in the U.S.A. by Gerry's.

These Cremax Pyrex plates and the blue canning jar that has been made into a soap dispenser I got at The Olde Farmhouse Vintage Market in Maple Ridge.

More Fall Color Pyrex.
My boyfriend bought me this Friendship Pyrex divided dish at The Olde Farmhouse Vintage Market.
The meat platter and bowl I got at the local secondhand stores.

These tins caught my eye it was like stepping back into the 70's again.  They were made in Japan.

This is a old photo again of my dad's cousin and a friend.
