The two muslins that I mentioned in my previous post have been completed. The Butterick blouse (B5678) went pretty quickly. Only one muslin was required and several tweaks to make the final pattern. It's ready to go with the changes I plan to incorporate from Rhonda's instructions.
The Silhouette jacket pattern required two muslins to get the fit I wanted. I first cut a size 3 to find out it was much tighter than I prefer. I did, however, note that I wanted to raise the armhole. I then cut/sewed a size 4. It required a bit of shaping at the front princess seams, and I took it in at the side seams above the bust. I altered the sleeve pattern to fit the new raised armhole as well as additional seam allowance that I had taken at the side seam. Probably sounds a bit more complicated that it really was. I think/hope I will get a well fitting jacket from my fitting alterations.
It is cut from a raw silk that has been in the stash for some time. I fused the fabric (with Peggy's interfacing) before I cut as the fabric is loosely woven and was a bit limp after I washed it. I still have to cut the lining pieces......
which leads me to the story of the following photos.
You see, I was looking for the appropriate lining fabric. I store my silks and some rayon linings in the cabinets in the guest bathroom. The sewing room used to be the guest bedroom. Anyhow, the shelves were a mess, and I began to pull out fabric. Some was stacked on the bathroom sink counter:
some on the wicker stool right next to the cabinet from which it was being pulled,
and this is what was left (in a mess I might add) in said cabinet.
I pulled out all the fabric. Yes, I found some I didn't remember that I had and some that I didn't remember purchasing. Here's the result. Solid color silks on upper right shelf. White china silk lining on the left upper. Silk and silk/cotton prints on the left lower shelf and towels/soap on the right.
I still have a small stack that needs to be put away in the proper bins. I found a bit of linen, some 100% cotton, and some wool crepe. In my search, I found some purple silk that I think I will use for the jacket lining.
During my errands this week, I stopped in Hancock Fabrics to pick up a McCall pattern that was on sale $1.99. I always check the remnant bin. Sometimes I pick up polar fleece to use for chemo hats. In the bin, I found this black minky for $1.00. I've made a few infinity scarves lately and thought this might make a fun one. I don't remember now, but I think it was between 1/3 and 1/2 yard.
Yesterday while perusing Stitcher's Guild I found the link to this tutorial for sewing an infinity scarf. Mine is not as wide as called for in the tutorial, but I love it just the same! I may have just found something to make for Christmas gifts next year! So soft and cuddly!
With no football tomorrow, I hope to find the energy to get into the sewing room and at least get the lining cut for the jacket. Perhaps I'll get inspired to start sewing it.
