Mostly Gardening; not sewing
The machine has not been humming the past couple of weeks. Yardwork and gardening has taken most of my time.
I finally have finished planting the vegetable garden, and I'm happy to report that the tomato plants I put out last month already have small green tomatoes growing. That event always makes me smile. Also in the garden: yellow beans, yellow squash, green and bannana peppers, several varieties of cucumbers, canteloupe, and sugar baby watermelon. We'll see how the variety does this year.
I leave you with a photo of a present from one of the cats:

Recent Jacket
After completing the "My Hearts a Flutter" shells, I pulled out the "A Subtle Twist jacket pattern. I've made this twice already.
I've had this black/white cotton plaid in the stash for a couple of years. It is a twill with a soft (almost flannel) hand. I came up with this:
One selvage had a nice "fringe" that I decided to use on the front opening. Here's a close-up:
I just cut the selvage edge the length of the jacket front. I used steam-a-seam to secure it to the opening and then re-top stitched over the original top stitching of the placket opening.
Then, I just fringed the sleeve "hems." Not sure how I like that part, but I'll try it. If I change my mind, I'll just cut off the fringed edge and put in a small hem.
