Hello to all you lovely crafters. I have two fun creations I created using the new Alpha Stamps May Kit by creating a steamer trunk of surprises and a box of circus memories.
So grab a drink and get to scrolling.
I love the way it looks on the outside.
I added this wonderful latch on the outside so you can actually open and close this little baby.
For the inside I used some of the
Steamer Trunk Parts Collage Sheet to figure out what I wanted to do on the inside as I wasn't sure what was going to go in here yet. I covered the inside with more papers from Bo Bunny and got to using more of those
faux suede sheets. The suede sheets are really such a nice touch. Then I added that drawer at the bottom so you can pull it open and store stuff in there.
So I started to think what would I runaway with??? I decided since I had so many vintage style images to work with I would make it about a girl who has this perfect life at home but wanted a sense of adventure because she heard about Houdini and thought she would love to runaway and be a part of magic shows.
So what would she bring while on the hunt to find the circus????
A photo of her mother maybe? I decided to add a "framed" image in the trunk.
I secured the expose sticker over the image and pressed down firmly to make sure it was good and stuck and then cut around the circle.
I filled the inside of the charm with glossy accents to secure the image to the charm.
Then I wanted to make it look like a picture frame secured to the inside of the trunk so I found a brad that would fit in the top of the frame.
I used some wire cutters to cut down the brad so it didn't stick out to far from the frame.
I also added glossy accents to the inside of where I was placing the brad to really make sure it stayed in there and not fall out.
I also got this amazing
Red Dresden Zig Zag Border to brighten up the top of the trunk before I started adding some finishing touches on the outside of the trunk.
So again I used the Faux Suede Sheets and cut out .75 inch circles to create a detailed look on the edges.
First I fold the circle in half, then in half again.
Then I cut out one of the quarters as the trunk only has 3 sides.
You can see how that fits here.
Doesn't it really add a nice touch after it is inked.
I started thinking more about what I would take and I love having flowers around me (fresh or dried). So I used some tiny flowers from my stash and wrapped them with some trim from the
Sea Fiber Set.
Now I got to thinking about how I really wanted to play with some other items in the kit. I thought a circus keepsake box for memories would be perfect.
Of course I got down on the floor to cut some chipboard and I had a little finger bitter would wanted to play. I cut the following pieces:
one 5"x 5"
2 pieces @ 5"x 1 1/2"
2 pieces @ 4 7/8"x 1 1/2"
Then I marked a sheet of 12x12 paper I planned to cover the box with. I marked the bottom 3/4" up from the bottom so I knew where to start placing my pieces.
I covered all the edges of my pieces with double-sided tape.
I place the pieces as follows in the image but made sure there was an 1/8th of an inch gap spacing to allow for the folding and creasing up of the pieces to form the box.
Then I marked a border around each piece of chipboard allowing for a 3/4" boarder around the whole thing. I cut on the line so the box looks like this image.
Then I cut diagonally into each corner like this.
I mitered (cutting) the edges giving an 1/8th of an inch gap as well. I used this nifty Tim Holtz Ruler to help me with that.
Then I added tape to the big flaps.
Fold the taped ends down and burnish (rub a bone folder over) the taped areas to make sure it is stuck down and good.
I like to push in the corners at the chipboard (this is called dog ears), which created a clean edging on the box.
Add tape to the tabs and started folding up the sides. Make sure the 4 7/8" sides tuck inside the 5" pieces.
I made a lid the same exact way except the sizes were as follows
one @ 5 1/4"
two @ 5 1/4" x 3/4"
two @ 5 1/8" x 3/4"
I made sure the 5 1/8" was tucked in between the 5 1/4" pieces.
Once everything was glued it was time to add the pieces to make the box pretty.
I inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and glued all the pieces down.
Then I got started on a title for the box. I used some dies to cut out the frame and my silhouette machine to cut out circus. There are some Tim Hotly alpha stickers that I drew my inspiration from and would look great here too!
Then I decided to use this awesome sheet of 12 x 12 paper from the Carnival papers. Cut out all the polaroids and inked the edges.
Then I cut some sheets of paper to make a little book. I cut 3 sheets (but only needed two) 7 1/2" x 4 1/2". Then scored down the middle at 3 3/4".
I inked all the edges of the pages and glued down the photos. Then I used my stapler to staple the top and bottom. I wish I had a open mouth stapler to get one more in the middle.
Here you can see the pages!
I got to thinking about a view finder and thought how cool would it be to see that in a memory box. I know I have tons of 35mm film stored away (not like I will ever need reprints though). So I pulled out my die and cut two out.
Then I inked the picture wheel, glued down my images, and put the other picture wheel on to cover this up. I think if I had some acetate it would have looked awesome to print the clowns on that.
Up next I just had to use the
Italian Tarot Cards Collage Sheet. I really enjoyed getting out some colored pencils and going to town adding pops of color here and there.
I cut them out and measured them so I could make a little box to hold them.
I cut a piece that is 2" x 3". I scored each side at 3/8". Then I cut the edges ( which is marker in orange).
I added tape to the flaps and adhered the box together. See how well the card fit in the box.
Then to make a wrap just right I used a pencil and traced around the box to make sure I get the sizes just right.
It turned out to be a kraft piece of cardstock cut 4" x 2 1/4". Then I scored it at 1 1/4", 1 3/4", 3", and almost 3 1/2".
I put some glue on the flap that was going on the inside and let it dry.
So your box cover should look like this!
I then used a tarot card to put on the front and one for the back. Inked up the box and added it to.
Up next to make some books for my girls reading pleasure while searching for Houdini and the traveling circus. I measured the book covers I cut out and cut little pieces to fit inside. I folded them in half and inked all the edges.
Then I smeared glue on one side of a page.
Stuck another page to it.
This is a type of binding and I continued this until it was thick enough to glue into the books.
Once it was I glue the first and last page to the covered and the binding side into the bind area creating the book.
Now for some finished photos!!!!
She couldn't leave without telling time using her Clock (
Clock Face Button) and her passport from the Steamer Trunk Parts Collage Sheet. How else would she travel the world following the circus and trying to find Houdini?
The corners also got a bit of studding done when I added the
2mm Flat Back Studs to make the trunk look more realistic.
The trunk of course has some show of what she is looking for and different marks from hotels she has stayed at while on her search.
Even with everything there all the goodies still fit in and you can close the trunk!
Next up a finished Circus Memories Box I made from scratch.
Inside you will find a picture wheel with images from the Bo Bunny 6x6 Carnival paper and the heads off the clowns from the
Circus Clowns #2 Collage Sheet.
The box also has some photos to remember past performers aka
Women Circus Performers Collage Sheet, which got their edges inked to make them look even older. Some funny photos of circus friends, and ;astly a pack of tarot cards that got tucked away as a memory of old times of reading the cards.
What would you take if you ran away to the circus??? Or what memories would you tuck away if you had a box of circus memories.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. Let me know in the comment what you thought of today. I do hope you enjoyed it and got some fun inspiration.
