Happy Holidays: Christmas Junk Journal

Happy Holidays Friends!
I’ve had this project on my art desk in various stages for some time now.
I was delighted to find some time to sneak away and finish it up before the year ended.
Like many of you, I adore working with fibers, threads and fabrics,
and in this project I created little page labels and tags using these items.
I love how the little labels came out and will use this technique again.
I found inspiration in putting these colors together when I came upon a Pier 1 Christmas sale and found this fabulous birch tree inspired paper wrapping.
I couldn’t wait to unwrap it and get started to complete the journal.
See the link to my YouTube Channel below, and
Here are some of pages you will find in my junk journal:

Check out what became of the wrapping paper in my junk journal too.

The little metal round tag, inventory tags, elegant and delicate tatting looking lacy bit,
and the black and white striped paper bas was purchased from A Tattered Dream on Etsy

Thank you for looking and I will see you again in the New Year!

Autumn Enchantment - Junk Journal

Hello Friends!

I'd like to share another junk journal with you today using
Shimmerz Paints to enhance some embellishments.
Below is a round metal rim office tag and Shimmerz Candlelight Paint was used to make the little leaf die-cut look like a metal or resin like piece.
I purchased the round metal rim office tags from
A Tattered Dream on Etsy.
I love how metal rim office tage turned out and will be using Shimmerz Candlelight more often.

I am enjoying making these junk journals.
They're perfect for preserving memories by journaling, adding photos, vintage doily's and laces, and ephemera.
In this journal, I've incorporated some photos, and an ticket to a play I saw many, many years ago. These tickets make great little collages too.

You can find a short slideshow of the entire journal on my newly created YouTube Channel.

And, you can visit Shimmerz Paints Blog to get all the product details too.
I hope the junk journal inspires you to create one also.
Use your scrapbook tools, mixed media skills, add in some sewing, and you can have one too.
Thanks for looking.

Ideas you can use with Office Metal Tags on your art Projects!

Hello my arty friends!
Here are a few examples of what you can do with Office Metal Tags
for your junk journals, and/or scrapbooking pages.
Spritz your favorite mist, or tea stain the white
portion of the office metal tag; then apply some digi paper, or stamp
an image on top of the tag; add a fussy cut an element; and finally apply
some Shimmerz Paints, Pasteez-Sale of the Earth to
seal your applications and it will render a cool
faux encaustic look without the hassle of real encaustic wax.
The butterfly example above is the result of a heavy application of
Pasteez-Salt of the Earth.

A selection of sizes of the Office Metal Tags
can be purchased at
A Tattered Dream on Etsy here.
Not only can you purchase office metal tags in a variety of sizes,
but the shop has an abundance of trims, fibers, and
junk journal papers too.

Thank you for letting me share.

Shabby Chic Summer Place Junk Journal and new You Tube Channel

Summer’s over but I’m not quite done with it yet.
Today I'm sharing my shabby chic Summer Place Junk Journal.
It’s stuffed with old things I used to hold dear:
a collage featuring an old ticket to a play I attended;
stained Battenburg doily;
Pansies I dried years ago and now have a home in my journal;
a letter from Grandma which included a dollar to buy ice cream on the way home from the neighborhood pool;
a post card from my favorite Pre-Raphaelite Artist;
and some music sheet to, “ A Summer Place” by Percy Faith.
When I was a young child, my mom would play this song when she set up to oil paint
or do some chores.
Then and today, it still resonates with me.
I feel all is right in the world and it still brings a tear to my eye.
I can't use my theme some to a Summer Place on YouTube, so I had to choose another classical piece of music to use in stead. Thanks for viewing with me.

All the chipboard, and linen fabric in the junk journal was treated with yummy, creamy Shimmerz Paints.

Let me tell you what I used.
Chipboard:
Acritonez-Three Sheets to the Wind
Inklingz – Pugnacious Purple, Precious Posey, and I Love you Onyxly
Shimmerz – Orchid-stra

Button:
Blingz- Gold Glimmer
Shimmer – Berry-licious

Coffee dyed paper and white linen fabric:   I combined the following two products to achieve a dusty lilac color.
Vibez- Princess
Shimmeringz-Heavy Metal

Some close ups.

Thanks for letting me share with you.

Dress Pattern Vintage Tags for Shimmerz Paints Design Team Project

Sharing some dress pattern vintage tags with you here today using Shimmerz Paint Products.

Pattern paper was applied on cardstock and sewn along the edges. Some Spritz Truffle, Shimmeringz Bronze Bombshell was spritz on top of the tags and allowed to dry.  Some Inklingz Penny 4 Your Thoughts was applied with a wet brush on top of the spritz.  Apply your favorite stamp,  white embossing powder and set with a heat gun.  One of the tags has a little postage stamp collage on top.

These tags quite simple to create and they look vintage enough to insert in my next vintage junk journal.

Thanks for letting me share with you, and stop by and visit Shimmerz Paints to find more inspiration and some new products too.

Scrapki -Wyzwaniowo August Challenge - Home Decor

The August Challenge at Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo ("Scrapki") is “Home Décor.” Since I won the June Challenge, I was invited back to be a Guest Designer at Scrapki in the month of August.  I was overjoyed to learn the name of the Challenge and was only too happy to start another junk journal using the Home Décor theme.  The cover of my journal is from a magazine cover.  I used a white Tyvek envelope and cut it down on one side to accommodate the size of the journal. I left the flap part of the envelope on the back cover intact to store future ephemera.  Blue and white Toile tissue paper was applied to the inside covers.  There is one signature inside the journal, and I used the three-hole pamphlet stitch to bind the pages to the journal.

Let’s turn a few pages and I’ll show you what’s inside.

On the first page, is a decorative mirror tuck spot to tuck in paint chips, photos, ideas,  etc.  My favorite element on this page is the Dusty Attic lamp chipboard.  I printed a photo of a ginger jar and cut and molded the pattern paper over the base of the chipboard lamp. I painted the lamp shade with Shimmerz Acritonez,”3 Sheets to The Wind,” than white embossed a floral stamp on top of the shade.  This technique gave the lamp shade a lacy etched glass look.  And, finally I added Shimmerz Paints, miner 49er gold.  I love how the pale gold color enhances the lamp motif.

I debated whether or not to add the Table of Contents of the magazine to the junk journal, but when I re-read all the sections, I was captivated by their titles….they evoked feelings.  How could one of us, not want to see the words, “Artist in Residence” in their junk journal? J

Most of the pages for my junk journal came from home décor magazines, and old reference books.  One book had pages in blue and white featuring titling patterns, and another was a book of fonts.  On those pages of the magazine or reference book pages that looked unattractive, I added sample fabrics.  There are paint chips, some tags, and a blue and white Toile envelope to store more ephemera as I design my rooms.  There are charms and lacy bits too.

The page above features a photograph of an Envelope Art ("EnveArt")I created using a photo of Marie Antoinette.  I printed the EnveArt on a white paper page and sewed in into the signature. The bag as two openings and I am able to store some more goodies in them too.  The fabric swatches on the opposite page are fabric flips.  You can flip each piece up to view.

Belly bands made from scrapbook papers and ribbon are used to hold photos of some pretty room vignettes and other paper ephemera. There are hidden pocket pages with journaling tags inside with a lacy pull tag.

See photo below: Another favorite part of the journal for me is my homemade journal paper to write home décor information.  I debated whether or not to tea dye the papers, but thought it would look too muddy against the blue and white.  My journal papers are made using newsprint paper.  I spritz Shimmerz, “Rocka Fella Blue” and “Heavy Metal” on top of a large lace stencil, then turned the stencil upside down and slapped the stencil on top of the paper which revealed the design.  I then lightly drew horizontal lines to write on.  I like how this technique turned out and will use it again on future junk journals.

Thanks for letting me share.  Please drop in to say hello and see how my fellow Scrapki friends interpreted the August Home Décor Challenge.

Captured

I found the Pink Challenge at Scrapki-Wyzwaniowo June 2017 Pink Challenge very inspiring this month.
It was just what I needed to get inspired to work with a pretty, girlish color, and of course, use my Shimmerz Paints design team products too.
This photo reminds me of my 20 something year old niece's attitude.
I entitled the art journal entry as, "Captured" because of my nieces insatiable
appetite for knowledge.  The journaling reads:

"Good and interesting conversation are a necessity for me.
I want to feel like you're expanding my mind.
I need my attention CAPTURED."
Open pages of the book:

All paint products used on the art journal is by Shimmer Paints, and you can find the names of the products and chipboard details on my Design Team post at Shimmerz Paints here.
