Digital Butterflies **Bird of a Feather Kit** May - Tutorial

I love butterflies, they add so much whimsey and fun to projects.  I had these butterflies saved on a digital file from a friend for a long time and they fit perfectly with the May Birds of a Feather Kit.

These little beauties are so easy to work with, just print them out on cardstock (a light color so you don't mess with the colors) and fussy cut the out.  In a digital file you can make them any size you want, you can cut and paste the file into word, paint, or other image size to play with how big or small they print.  Sometimes I print more than one size to see what works best with my project.

Free Digital Butterfly Tutorial

1) Select the size of you butterflies to be printed.  Print of cream or white cardstock.

2) Cut out the butterflies with sharp point scissors (I have spring action ones from Fiskars and love them).

3) Ink all the edges of the butterfly to remove the white edges.  Use a color that matches the color on the butterfly.  With thee ones I used a dark blue chalk ink.

 4) Decorate with gems, enamel dots, stickles, pearls, etc until you have a cute little butterfly embellishment!!

Here is a sneak of the project I used them on - come back and check May 22 for the full reveal!!

pretty happy girl **Birds of a Feather Kit**

Back in January I was playing around with my daughter taking pictures at the park near our house.  She looked so cute in her little goodie sweater, so sweet and happy.  I played with the color a bit on the pictures and a mostly black and white looked perfect!!

I used the wonderful Birds of a Feather April kit with a monochromatic feel of teal and green and with black and white.  I did tons of texture with molding paste and stencils, tons, of mists in splatters, drips, sprays, and blobs and one of the mists was from the march kit!!.  I did the textures in two phases so I could layer on top of each other, some with the washi tape from the kit under the paste and some over it after it dried.  I then added in strips of the papers, flowers, circle cutouts from the papers, stickers, and sequins.

Here you can see up close how I layered up the papers and embellishments.  I even distressed the edge of the pictures and added in some ink to the distress portion of the picture.

Supplies Used
Flowers - Prima
Mists - Ranger, Heidi Swapp, & Tattered Angels
Ink - Ranger
Medium - Liquitex
Stencils - TCW
Straw - other
Tickets - IOD
Other paper - DCWV and BoBunny

memories **Birds of a Feather Kit & Just Imagine & Off the Rails**

Here is my sweet little Catherine at age one.  A friend took some wonderful pictures of her for at 12 months of age in our backyard just before we moved.  It made for a great backdrop for our pictures!!  This is actually her Easter dress, but it still fit so swell and it is just to cute I could not pass up using it for these pictures too.

I used the wonderful April Birds of a Feather kit to make this cute layout.  I stuck with a more monochromatic look of pink and peach with a hint of white and grey.  I used lots of layers, mists, and embellishments to really play up this picture all to make the black and white pop.

I also used the super cute sketch from Off the Rails Scrapbooking with a color scheme of pastels.  Jump on over and go play!!

I used the wonderful Kreaxions punch 311 from Just Imagine with the corner and edge inserts (B and C) to create the border around the picture.  It is super simple to use and such great versatility.  You can also see a hint of the punch at the top of the page under some of the layers.

I found the fun straws at a baby shower earlier this month, I could not resist using them in the layers of this layout.  I added in some of the stickers from the alpha sheet, washi tape, a flower, and some mist!!

baby card **Susan K. Weckesser & Just Imagine**

My friend for many years is having his first baby with is wonderful wife and it is a boy!!  My husband and I  are super thrilled for both of them, even thought they have no idea what they are in for, hehe.  They have already decided on a name for the little guy Maroun, named after his father.

Knowing it is a boy I went with blue and teal colors with a hint of yellow.  Susan K. Weckesser's paper were perfect for this card.  I used two different pages, both sides of "Beautiful Daydreams" and the other I cut a  card out of the "Live in Color Tags" for the center.

I did not make this a super "baby" card except for the baby stamp and the little bear in the flower.  I did some fun things on this card, like paper piercing and sewing with twine, alternating the puncture holes with blue and yellow brads for some fun.  I also added in a wonderful punched corner on the white swirled paper with my Kreaxions punch 311 with the C insert from Just Imagine.

I can't wait to meet the little guy and give him super big hugs!!

Happy Easter Cards **Birds of a Feather Kit & Just Imagine**

I am heading home to see my parents for Easter and on the way visiting my in-laws, so only fitting that I make cards for them for Easter.  My kids are getting so many Easter egg hunts it is not even funny, but that is fun and I love seeing the looks on their faces when they find an egg.

The papers in the April Birds of a Feather Kit are just perfect for Easter layouts and cards and making two cards is just as easy as making one card when you have full 12x12 sheets of paper.  You just cut enough for both cards.  The only variation I made to each card are the flowers, there are some different flowers in the layers of each card, but they all have the same color tones (peach, cream, pink, and white).

April 2014 Kit

I used a base of a cream for each card, and then layered the wonderful fat roll of Washi words tape over it.  I then layered a punched scalloped paper using Just Imagine punch 311 with the C insert for an edge border and added another strip of striped Washi tape.  I cut out three 1 3/4 inch squares and layered the flowers and title on each.
