Boo! A Halloween Layout for Quick Quotes!

I am up at Quick Quotes today and just love this layout! I decided to share a layout of my little toddler on Halloween and go for the cute factor (:  This week we are swapping products with Xyron so I got lots of great adhesive to use on this!

When I saw the spiderweb I knew i wanted to back it with different patterned papers...I just absolutely love how it turned out.  I'm so into mixing up my patterned papers these days!  I also had fun creating the title to resemble some drippy goo.  And of course had to change the subtitle from "monster" to puppy just to add to the cute factor.  

Families are like fudge

Apparently I am on a bit of a grid kick!  Here's another card with a grid.  Featuring all kinds of Momenta goodies!  The sticker says "Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts."  The sticker is super easy to read in person but not so much on screen!

I have been busy working away on design team assignments, design team applications, and magazine submissions.  Can't wait to share lots of those with you, but have to hold them back for now!

Butterfly Grid Card

I was up at Quick Quotes yesterday with this fun card using the "Just Because" line that is newly released!

As soon as I saw the grid design on the paper I knew I wanted to make a cool, graphic card with it!  I decided to punch out plain white butterflies for all but one of the squares.  For the top square I actually punched the butterfly straight from there creating some of that negative space that is soooo trendy right now!  Each of my butterflies has one big straight stitch up the middle to add a little more color.   I also gave my top corner a curve to create a striking opposite to all the strong lines.  Between all the fall colors, the rays, and the polka dots this line is so on trend right now; you don't want to miss it!

Silverware: It's not just for eating anymore!

Today at Practical Scrappers we did a frugal finds feature.  Each month we pick out an item that is cheap and easy to get your hands on.  It also usually has nothing to do with scrapbooking.  We have found it gets the creative juices flowing and between the three administrators we've had good luck getting things picked up for publication that we created for this monthly feature.  This month I made the feature on silverware.  There was a lot of groaning and thinking I was crazy from our designers. But what we came up with will knock your socks off!  Here is my creation using the prongs of a fork to paint my background:

Back to School unfolding card and tutorial

I am up at Momenta today, here's the tutorial I shared.  Today is the first day of school for my older kids so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share one of my back to school cards with you!  This one has some hidden fun to it!

Here's the front view.  I used some one of the Hall Pass Clear Layered Stickers for my focal point and added a little pennant to show off that he is going into 3rd Grade.

And here's the card as it unfolds.  Believe it or not it started as a simple piece of cardstock.

All you need is a base and then patterned papers cut to the sizes you wish to layer.  Your base should be  11" length X 4.25" height which is folded in half. Then you take the top cover and fold that in half again.  This will leave you with some of the "inside of your card showing."  I then cut patterned papers down to the size that I wanted for each location.

 On the "inside" I added my sentiment.  It was hidden from the front view by my banner embellishment.

The yellow polka dot paper is a longer folded sheet that can open up and leave you a private spot to write them a message.  I like adding this feature because it makes the card a little more private but kids also think it's a cool hidden surprise!

Check out all that dimension!  I know he will be thrilled with the card and all the hidden fun in it!

Back to School Card #1

My kids go back to school this week so you are gonna see a week of fun Back to School projects that I have worked on!  

I used a variety of goodies on this from Momenta & Quick Quotes.  I am loving Momenta's Clear Layered Stickers lately and have been using them on a lot of cards!

A Star is Born

I won some stickers from SRM stickers and I was so excited about it that I decided to go make a layout using their stickers!  I had picked up a set of their dance themed stickers...between my little ballerina and my dance machine toddler, I knew they would get used.

I cut the D A N C E title apart and spread it out around the layout.  How's that for a fun way to use a title sticker?

Teresa Collins "Everyday Moments" layout

I have been scrapping like crazy the last week...my friend Holly says I am scrapbook nesting (:  Last night I pulled out these papers and die cuts from Teresa Collins.  I haven't used a lot of Teresa Collins in the past, bits and pieces but I just couldn't resist this line called "Everyday Moments."  When I saw them at the store I loved them.  I pretty much love anything paired with navy and this yellow, navy, turquoise combo is awesome!  My little Lucy loves yellow so there were a lot of pictures to choose from but I decided to go with one of her in her Easter dress.

I used most of the die cuts sheet and just layered things like crazy!  Favorite thing about this layout is definitely the unique color combo!

Poking Holes in my card

Every once in a while I get the itch to try something completely different and this card was just that.  I was in the mood to play and experiment (:.  What I did was create a template heart and then use a paper piercer to poke holes around the outline.  I then went back and poked holes to fill in the hole.  It created a really interesting but subtle background.  It was a little tough to photograph, but in person it is fantastic.  It was a good stress reliever too (:

Sweet Summer Layout

I am up over at Momenta today!  I decided to scrap my most recent fave photo of me and my kiddos.  It could be my last fave photo as a mom to just three!  I just got my hands on a Doodle Floral pyramid pad and I couldn't wait to create with it!  I love the sketched designs and the bright colors that are perfect for some summer photos.  

This paper pad comes with paper 6 X 6 and smaller, so I used pieces of it for my background and my hearts.  My base is actually from the Family Outings line.  I sketched and cut out my hearts on paper, they are imperfect but fit fabulously with the sketching already in this line.  I completely glued the white hearts down, but then only glued down the middle of the patterned paper ones so that I could fold them and make them pop off the page.  I added some twine, gems, and dots to up the texture and repeat shapes.  I also did lots of doodling and outlining with my black pen, again to mimic the sketching.  Now that I have played with this line on a layout, I can't wait to try it on a card!

Strange color combo = Fun card!

Today I have a card to share that was made just for fun!  What I mean by that is I didn't make it with anything in mind...just plain old experimenting!  I was trying out my scoring board for a medallion, I was trying out the bold color combo with the soft blue, I was trying out the horizontal banners.  I like how it turned out considering all the playing I did!  I can't imagine the whole card without the soft blue background. Hope your weekend has started off fabulously!

All Star Memories: Jillibean Soup Sports Layout

I absolutely loved meeting the gals from Jillibean Soup at CHA.  They were such a nice group of people and frankly made me want to buy lots more of their product!  So as time permitted me to do a layout just for fun....I decided to pull their stuff out!

I love this line and the combination of the bright colors and kraft paper!  Perfect of course for my little sports man too!  These are a couple of pictures about his love of sports...a collection of all his footballs and him and his stuffed dog "Touchdown."  To create my border I used a border punch from EK Success and then glued it under my white paper.  I like the way the kraft paper still pops out.  I wonder how long until I can get my hands on some of the brand new CHA stuff (:!?!

Core Cards Creative Frenzy

I decided to throw my hat in the ring with the Core'dinations design team call for cardmakers.  The call asked us to create three projects and specifically mentions using traditional card bases and die cuts.    I tried to use as much C'oredinations cardstock as I had on hand and then a wide variety of die cuts.  I did a lot of scoring, embossing, and sanding to bring out the core on my cardstock.  This is what really makes C'oredinations shine and I think it adds a nice, subtle touch to cards.    Here's what I came up with!

 For this first card I started off thinking I was going to take a tradtional card base and make it look like a ticket.  But as I progressed in making it and laid the rectangular pink cardstock on it, I decided I really liked the feel of the sharp corners versus the curve.  Here is how I created those curved corners:

*I punched a one inch circle and folded it in half and then in half again.  

*I then set it in each corner and traced those and cut them out.  

Very simple, but completely alters the look of the card!  You can see that I used a die cut piece that mimics that shape underneath my words.

My second card has a similar color scheme. For this card I wanted to take a traditional base again and this time make it look like a banner piece with the inside of the card peeking thru at the bottom.

I scored one line across the top to add some interest.  To the bottom of my banner I added scallop die cuts along with a heart peeking thru.  I used brads and twine to tie it so it would stay shut.  The top pieces are all die cuts from Momenta and Echo Park.

Here's how I created the banner shape:

*I simply cut a sheet of scrap paper down to 4.25" X 5.5" and folded it in half

*I cut from the bottom corner up at an angle towards the fold...it is symmetrical because you have folded it, so you don't have to worry about that part!

*I then set that up against my card to see if it was about the size I wanted and then used it as a template

Again a quick and easy change to a regular shape!

Now for my last card

 It is again a traditional shape, I simply folded the top cover in half.  I love the dimension this creates.  I used some simple tags and punched circles to add to this simple card.  The circles add an interesting dimension and if you are interested in seeing how I created those, you can find the tutorial here.

I had so much fun challenging myself to think outside the box a bit with these!  I hope you've enjoyed the post and would love to hear which is your favorite of the three cards!

Dimensional Embellishment Tutorial

Hi Quick Quotes Fans!  Christine here hoping you are enjoying your weekend so far!  Today I have a quick tutorial to share with you on how you can use your circle punch to make a dimensional embellishment just like the circles you see in my card.

 

To start you will want to punch four circles

And then fold those circles in half

Use adhesive to glue together two halves.  I used Beacons 3 in 1 glue because it is quick dry and tacky, but a glue runner will also work!

Continue gluing halves together, leaving the last connection open so that you can glue them down to your project.

Now wasn't that simple and fun!?!

July CARDS Magazine Publications

Another month that I was blessed to have two cards featured in CARDS magazine!  Here are the two cards that were picked up:

 This one was for the Home & Family category.  It uses papers from Crate Paper, American Crafts, and Momenta.  Stickers from Simple Stories, American Crafts, and Momenta.  I had submitted this one in a different category another month and this was my first attempt at resubmitting something...thanks to some great advice from friends!

I love everything Amy Tan creates for American Crafts...case and point right here!  Everything on here is from her first line.  Currently I am creating lots with her second line as I wait to get my hands on her brand new third line (:  Something about her stuff just works for me, especially on cards!  My geometric creation is actually a set of snowflakes cut on my cricut.  I had some leftovers and just started playing with them, they came together to make this quilty graphic feel!
