Mixed Media with Scrapmatts!

Hello there! Here we are in June!! The year is flying by! I hope you are getting some creative time!!

I have been having a bit of fun with mixed media which is simply using a variety of media to create art.. or in our case, our scrapbooking!!

I got a scrap piece of paper and began to use some modelling paste and some fabulous stencils..

Then I covered the whole piece of paper with gesso.. This makes the paper able to hold the wet mediums which I used next..

When that was completely dry I sprayed it with mist..
When that was completely dry I mat this on some black cardstock and then mat that onto my card face..
I added some more stencilling, some mesh, some old die cuts left over from another project, my chipboard pieces which were painted in black gesso , added some flowers and I created a fabulous card!!

These are the Scrapmatts products I have used for my card...

ST1032 Stencil Plus Signs

ST1003 Stencil Sticks

ST5005 Stencil Patterns

ST1013 Stencil Borders

I would also like to share a layout I created using mixed media also.  I have used a selection of stencils for the back ground. I have used quite a few chipboard pieces too...  I will share some closer views to show some of the details..

I can never have enough of the cogs, just love them!! Painted with brown paint and dabbed with gesso..
I have used the 3 sizes of the Hexagon stencil on the back ground..

I love the Federation Corners painted in white gesso, which matched the era of the house..

My layout... Family..

At The Beach and Some Birthday Cards by Lauren

I live on the Gold Coast, which is known for being a coastal tourist attraction centre, so you would think that when Scrapmatts released a new Marine Life chipboard set I would be all over it, right? Wrong, I rarely head to the beach, largely due to my pale skin which goes from white to red in about 10 minutes flat regardless of the amount of sunscreen I slather on. The chipboard did look adorable though so I eventually remembered I had these photos from a morning stroll I did with friends sometime last year and set to work.

All the chipboard comes from CB4067 Marine Life 02. I have used seven pieces on this layout and there are still fifteen left in the sheet! The pink/orange pieces have been coloured with Gelatos, the blue pieces with Glimmermist and the seaweed has been left natural in the white mist finish the sheet came in.

My second set of projects for the Scrapmatts DT this month are a couple of birthday cards. Chipboard is the perfect embellishment for cardmaking. It is relatively flat, light weight and can easily be coloured to match any colour scheme. I whipped up two quick birthday cards for family members in the past month and they were both very impressed with the results.

Chipboard for both my frame and sentiment in this earthy card. I used CB1198 Scrapwords 06 and CB6091 Ornate Frames 19. After creating my own patterned paper in this second card all I needed was some glitter alphas and some chipboard chevrons (CB5106 Chevrons 01).

If you've created a card, or any other project, using Scrapmatts chipboard please come share it with us in the gallery.

Harrison Showcase

I know most of the rest of the design team is showcasing Christmas projects, but I'm a little obsessed with my son Harrison at the moment so he's staring in my two projects. I hope you find him just as adorable as I do. :)

We received our professional photographs by Rachael Wilson Photography from the newborn shoot we did when Harrison was ten days old recently and I just had to create a display for them. Scrapmatts chipboard made the perfect accent pieces for this. It's strange to see him looking this small, he's grown so much in just three months!

Scrapmatts used: CB6095 Assorted Words 18; CB1129 Australian Federation Corners 07; CB6093 Ornate Frames 21; CB1209 Scrap Words 12; CB6055 Prams 01; CB5035 Hot Air Balloons 01.

Following on from the 10-day old photos of Harrison, here is one taken last week. My journaling describes some of the early challenges we faced with breastfeeding, how we're working to overcome these and how much I enjoy post feed cuddles (which is when I took this photo).

There are so many different ways you can use chipboard but sometimes all it needs is a quick coat of paint like I've done here.

Scrapmatts used: CB5106 Chevrons 01; CB8001 Circles 01; CB4055 Assorted Words 09.
