Scott wasn't able to go to this check up because he had a test in one of his classes he couldn't risk missing so that's why I didn't get to be the mamarazzi this time and get any pictures. So apparently the grumpy baby we have been experiencing is due to her trying to get her first tooth. My baby can't be teething yet right?! It still hasn't made it's debut yet but it sure is throwing our sleeping for a loop, along with a few other things that hit at the same time. But that's another story. She weighed 12 pounds 11 ounces and was 25 inches long. She is 75% in height and is probably going to be a tall little girl. The doctor was asking about her rolling over and I told him that she does it but her main interest is in sitting up. He kinda dismissed what I said and went on to give her an exam. When he went to listen to her heart she did one of her baby crunches/ trying to sit up and he was taken aback. He chuckled and said wow she will be sitting up before we know it. She was really cute with her doctor and wanted to talk to him and examine all of his tools. She as good and you can when getting shots and after I had settled her down she yelled at the cute little nurse when she saw her. It was pretty funny.
So we were prepared for a cranky baby again after the shots. However, we weren't really prepared for the hunger strike she gave us the next couple of days. The day after her shots she refused to eat anything and spit out the few cc's my husband tried to put in her mouth with a syringe. She didn't eat for 10 hours straight which for Hadley has never happened before. Even when she had a cold and couldn't breathe when eating she would still eat every two hours like clockwork and is still at every 2 hours. We called the doc on call and she was no help and just told Scott if he couldn't handled the inconsolable crying and no eating to take her to a kids care/instacare. So after a few more hours he did and the doc wanted to get a bunch of blood work and an X-ray. Scott didn't feel good about it so he left to come pick me up from work. Luckily she ate from me but was then up every hour on the hour that night hungry and trying to make up for what she hadn't eaten that day. The next day she was the same way so I called the on call doc this time and this one was much more helpful and was willing to sit and find everything out that we had been doing and how Hadley was acting and was very helpful telling us the possible things it could be but that it probably wasn't urgent to do anything that night but to go to the office the next morning. So we did and we didn't see her regular pediatrician because he wasn't quite in yet. However, I was very impressed with the doctor we saw instead. She said Hadley was fine on exam but that if she didn't get better that night then she would be worried about intussusception and we would need to do a barium x-ray the next day at Primary Children's Hospital. She said that the rotovirus vaccine can cause a pretty bad upset tummy for 3 days and that's what she was hoping was going on but it does have this rare side effect of intussusception (causes bowel obstructions). Luckily Hadley started doing better that night and weekend. The doctor had the on call doctor call us on Sunday to check in a make sure Hadley was ok and then she called on Monday to follow up. I was really impressed with her going above and beyond to help us and her sincerity in caring about how our baby was doing. So apparently I can expect up to three days of a really cranky baby and even hunger strikes after shots. Good thing they happen about every two months so when we get her back in a schedule she'll be knocked right out again!
