Homework with Daisy

D: Mom I need help with this one.

M: OK.  (Begin reading instructions) An elephant is big.  A mouse is little.

D: No, Mom.  This boy.

M: Yes, I know but I'm reading the instructions.  (Reading again) Big and little are opposites.  Circle the picture that shows the opposite.  This boy is happy.  The opposite of happy is...........(blank look on Daisy's face).........(Still pausing for her to respond)................sad.  The opposite of happy is sad.  Which one looks sad? (Points to the right picture) OK, circle that one.  Now, this arrow is up.  what is the opposite of up?

D: The boy? 

M: No.  The opposite of up is down.  Up then down.  They are opposites.  Go ahead and circle it. (Begins to circle the boy's picture) No, Daisy.  The arrow.  The down arrow.

D: Oh. (quick chuckle) Sorry.  (Circles the down arrow) What is this? (Meaning the third line of work)

M: Well, that is a boy.  What is the opposite of a boy? 

D: Happy?

M: No.  The opposite of a boy? (I said it a little slower)

D: A car?

M: No.  Dodge is a boy.  What is the opposite of him?

D: Crawling?

M: No.  Opposites mean it is the opposite, (I now realized it was a difficult idea to explain) so if you are happy the opposite is sad.  If it is day then the opposite is night. OK, in our family we have lots of people.  Dodge, Blake and Dad are all boys.  What is the opposite of them?

D: Dads pick who say the prayer?

M: No. (I'll really starting to worry at this point) Remember it is the opposite of that thing.  So if it is hot then the opposite would be cold.  If it is black the opposite would be white.  If it is a boy the opposite would be....

D: Oh! The boy is black so we need white.

M: No! OK, if something is hot what is the opposite?

D: You would make it....(I'm about ready to interrupt since I see a wrong answer coming) cold?

M: Yes!!  Cold!  The opposite of hot is cold.  Now if it is dark then the opposite is....?

D: You would turn on a light?

M:Yes!! (We are getting there, folks)  If you are little the opposite is...?

D: Big?

M: If you are outside the opposite would be...?

D: Going inside?

M: If you are happy?

D: Sad.

M: If you are ugly?

D: Pretty!

M: Yes!  If you are a boy...?

D: Girl!

M: Yes!! (thank heavens!)  So you would circle the girl. (She circles the boy)  No, the girl.  (Circles the girl, crosses out the boy)

D: What is the opposite of a dog?

M: That's not a dog.  It's a bunny.  And he is being fast.  What is the opposite of fast?

D: Walking. (I hang my head.  All that work and back to square one)

M: Nope.  The opposite of fast would be....?

D: Slow?

M:  Yes.  So circle the slow picture. 

D: Would that be the turtle?

The other night while discussing Daisy Ben made the comment that she just might surprise us later on in life.  Let's hope. :)

I can't wait until I'm 8, for then I'll be baptized you see!

Kaylee has finally hit the age of accountability which means when she tells me she hates me it will actually count this go around :)

Kaylee has always been a handful but she also has this great personality that I love.  For her birthday she asked that instead of her family party she could go see the Lego movie with her Dad.  Talk about easy.  Yes.  No problem!!  However, she wanted to go with just Ben an here is where Kaylee is two steps ahead of me.  I didn't know if she was doing that because she wanted special time with her dad because she loves him or because she wanted to go to the movie and brag to her siblings about how cool the movie was and only she got to see it.  I don't know.  I would believe both or her. She has this split personality between extremely vindictive and extremely generous that beats me every single time.  I've given up trying to win with her and surprisingly she is a lot easier to deal with when I don't try.  She has become so helpful, thoughtful, and understanding in the last year or so that we rarely have fights anymore.  She does still try to boss around Daisy which is always under the guise of "she's not supposed to be doing it" but then at night, even when they have fought all day, she will want Daisy to sleep with her so neither of them will be scared from bad dreams.  Overall I really like this girl.

Her birthday dinner request was nachos.  Look at the huge plate.  She ate about 4 chips.  I was ticked that she wasted so much food.  It was a good thing it was her birthday.

Her other birthday request was a cake that had nothing but candy on top.  She found it on pinterest.  We put M&Ms, reese, mike & ikes, giant nerds, and milk duds.  It was not a good combination.  The cake was good.  She only ate the candy on top.  Once again, lucky for her it was her birthday.

We took a few baptism pictures yesterday so I could pretend to be a good, involved mom.  My mom found her dress at Costco.  Score! She looked so pretty in it. I made an invite, that won't actually be printed up for people but available to be seen on the internet.  I really like how her pictures came out. And I really like pic monkey where I edited them in really cool ways!!
