un deux trois

Now that holiday parties and fancy gatherings are just around the corner I thought it would be fun to use this week's Un Deux Trois post to come up with three ways to make a casual dress look fancy! For this post I'm wearing this white floral long sleeve dress from Modcloth.

Can you guess which outfit is my favorite? I'll let you know at the end! :)

Remixed item: White long sleeve floral dress from Modcloth

Belt: Old
Shoes: Amazon
Crinoline: Amazon

This is the most simple way to posh-up a casual frock -- add a crinoline! The silhouette immediately changed it from "quick errand run" to "cocktail party time!" and the black patent belt and matching shoes just make it even more classy and timeless. I can totally see Betty Draper wearing this outfit in the early episodes of Mad Men!

Remixed item: White long sleeve floral dress from Modcloth

Bell sleeve top: Dolls Kill (old)
Shoes: Aldo
Gold cat belt: Modcloth

For this outfit I wore a cropped glittery black bell sleeved top and cinched the waist with a gold belt. For the shoes I went with red velvet heels that match the red florals in the dress. I love that this look feels very fancy but the cats on the gold belt still keep it whimsical :)

Skirt: Modcloth (old)
Belt: Amazon
Shoes: Bait Footwear

Here I paired the dress with a nice black midi skirt and then added a giant white bow belt on top. The shoes are silver glittery pumps for a little extra pizazz! This one is my favorite of the three. I think it's simple and chic (and I LOVE adding bow belts to pretty much any outfit!)

un deux trois

Did you know that Dolls Kill released a delia*s throwback collection? I just about died when I saw it. I collect their old catalogs (and scan them on my delia*s blog here) so this was SUPER exciting for me!! I have basically no money right now, but I also couldn't resist getting this dress (and this tote bag) and I already came up with three different ways to style it! :D

Can you guess which one is my favorite? I'll let you know at the end!

Remixed item: delia*s flower power dress from Dolls Kill

Sweater: Target
Collar: old
Shoes: Bait Footwear

I've said this a million times but I love when dresses have multiple colors that you can pull from to make a coordinated outfit. For this one I went with the pink and matched my sweater, belt, and shoes. I think the detachable collar is what really pulls everything together here though.

Top: ASOS (old)
Shoes: Karmaloop (old)
Sunglasses: Oui Fresh

This look is definitely out of season but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  I love it anyway.

Belt: Old
Shoes: Aldo
Tights: Amazon

Last but not least, a simple outfit with colored tights and a matching belt. I pulled from the blue here and honestly I could have done un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, etc. today because there was the option to do a red outfit, a yellow outfit, a green outfit, etc. I can already tell this dress is going to get a lot of wear because it's just so easy to style it a dozen different ways.

Can you guess which one was my favorite? It was the first one with the collar! :)

un deux trois

Un Deux Trois is back this week after an accidental hiatus last week (I just totally forgot to post! oops!) with one of my favorite items in my closet, this pinafore dress that I got on Amazon. I actually have it in three colors (red, light blue, and black) I love it so much!

Can you guess which outfit is my favorite? I'll spill the beans at the end of the post!

Remixed item: Red pinafore from Amazon

Cat sweater: Modcloth
Shoes: Aldo

I feel like every time I wear something mustard I pair it with red, and vice versa. It's just such a perfect color combination! Here I decided to wear this cardigan buttoned-up under the pinafore with a matching mustard colored belt and nude shoes. This cardigan is one of my favorite additions to my closet this year. Do you ever get something and think "80 years from now some vintage collector is going to flip out over this item?" because I think that a lot about my own clothing collection.

Remixed item: Red pinafore from Amazon

The Killers t-shirt: Burning Airlines
Cardigan: Old Navy
Shoes: Bait Footwear

I think my favorite thing about pinafores is that you can wear graphic tees with them and show off the whole design. Here I'm repping my favorite band, The Killers, with a band tee and a knotted cardigan. I wore kitten heels here but I think this would also look perfect with keds in the summer. Very casual/cool :)

Remixed item: Red pinafore from Amazon

Dress (worn as a top): ASOS
Shoes: Amazon

Never forget that every dress in your closet can also be a top if it's paired with the right item ;) I love wearing this particular dress as a shirt because it's short enough that it usually sits an inch or so above the hem of most of my other dresses. And here I am pairing yellow with red again, lol! It's just so perfect!

Did you guess my favorite outfit? It's the Killers tee one! I feel like that's probably a surprise this week? I just really like the combination of the red and purple and the outfit gives me all the feels about going to see my favorite band in concert in 2016 and 2017. Maybe if they tour nearby again I'll wear that outfit to the concert! ;D

un deux trois

For this week's wardrobe remix I picked this most-perfect-item-for-fall-ever sweater. I've been wearing it a lot lately (including for pumpkin picking -- THE perfect place to wear it!) and I like it so much that I ordered it in dark green, too. I've always loved the idea of chunky sweaters but I don't usually like the way they look on me. The dropped shoulder seams usually create a weird bulge on my arms that makes me look bigger, but this one lays so nicely and I think it's actually flattering.

Can you guess which outfit is my favorite? I'll tell you at the bottom of the post! :)

Remixed item: Ginger sweater from Forever 21

Skirt: Lazy Oaf (old)
Shoes: Amazon

This is going to sound so cheesy but the model in the product listing had her sweater tucked in a little bit, and I thought it looked so cool that I decided to try it. And that's how I've been styling it almost every time I wear this sweater now! It's a thick sweater so I was surprised that it worked, but I love it! Also I just got these boots recently that said "mauve" on the listing but are actually closer to my skin tone in person, and I love the lengthening effect I get with them. That's unusual for an ankle boot, they usually make me look two feet tall, lol.

Remixed item: Ginger sweater from Forever 21

Jumper: Asos
Shoes: Bait Footwear
Necklace: Vintage

I'm just going to go ahead and say this is my least favorite of the three outfits, even though the concept is my favorite. I like the *idea* of a long necklace, tall boots, and a corduroy jumper but this dress just doesn't fit me well. I bought it about 12 pounds ago and it was big on me then, so now I'm swimming in it a little. I also need it hemmed a bit. I think if I get it tailored to fit me better I'd LOVE this outfit though! It feels very 70's-meets-cozy :)

Remixed item: Ginger sweater from Forever 21

Hat: Forever 21
Pants: old
Shoes: Aldo (old)

Pants?! Yes, pants! This one is actually my favorite. I love these pants with these shoes, and I'm very obsessed with this chenille beret because it lays nicely, unlike wool berets which always, without fail, look stupid on my head. This is an outfit I could definitely wear pretty much every day this fall and I'd be perfectly happy with that! :)

un deux trois

I was showing this dress to my mom from a distance and she asked what the print was, and I told her it was lions and tigers. We both agreed that it would be even better if it was lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) and then when my mom looked closer she realized there are bears on the dress after all! I just hadn't noticed them! So this dress is a subtle little nod to The Wizard of Oz! How cool!

It's a tad bit longer than I normally go for, but I LOVE this dress. I think it's so flattering and it fits me like a glove. They have it in two other prints so I might need to go back for those (and then start a campaign to keep this pattern in circulation in various motifs for years to come!)

Can you guess which outfit is my favorite? I'll let you know at the end :)

Remixed item: Lions, tigers, and bears dress from Modcloth

Sweater vest: Amazon
Lamb brooch: Sugar Cookie
Shoes: Bait footwear

I wasn't lying when I said that The Mindy Project got me hooked on sweater vests! I never in a million years would have thought of adding this particular garment to my wardrobe if it wasn't for Mindy but I *love* her sweater vest outfits, and it's such a cute and easy way to style a dress!

Remixed item: Lions, tigers, and bears dress from Modcloth

Cardigan: Amazon
Lilac shoes: Aldo

In this outfit I matched all of my accessories to the lilac tigers on the dress (the shoes are lilac, too, though I'm not sure if you can really tell here.) This cardigan technically has 3/4 sleeves but they come all the way down to the wrists on me. I pulled the sleeves up slightly so you can see the ends of my long sleeve dress peeking out and I think it's a neat little detail!

Remixed item: Lions, tigers, and bears dress from Modcloth

Shirt: Forever 21
Necklace: Vintage
Shoes: Aldo

Lions, tigers, bears, and Arrietty! Oh my! I was just re-reading the blog post I wrote in 2013 introducing her to you guys and then I came back to this photo and got *all the feelings*!!! She's sleeping next to me right now while I'm typing this and I know I'm such a cat lady but Arrietty is honestly the most important part of my life and my heart could just burst from how much I love her. She's such a little sweetheart and so, so cute. Sometimes I wish everyone could meet her in person because photos and videos don't do justice to what a sweet personality she has.

Anyway! I got this shirt recently from forever 21 (it has a scalloped collar!!!) and thought it would be perfect for turning my dress into a pseudo-skirt. Although I do think this look would be especially great if I had a button-up in a matching color instead, like navy blue. But alas, I don't own any button ups that match... and I really had the itch to wear this new shirt lol!

So did you guess which one was my favorite? If you guessed the first outfit with the sweater vest, you were correct! :D

un deux trois

I went back and looked at the photos from the last time I wore this dress and they are SO bright! It was early August so sunshine was still a thing. We've been having fall sunshine (ie. no sunshine) paired with summer weather. It's been really hot but it looks like 5pm all day long. I've been doing this outfit post thing since 2011 and I'm *still* frustrated when fall shows up and I forget how to adjust my camera settings accordingly.

Anyway. This post is not about sunshine and weather, it's about remixing this pencil print dress! I love when a dress has multiple colors so you can wear a ton of different cardigans, sweaters, shoes, etc. and still be matchy. This one has five different colors (maroon, grey, blue, red, and yellow) so there are a lot of possibilities!

Do you want to guess which outfit was my favorite? I'll spill the beans at the end of the post! :)

Remixed item: Pencil print dress from Modcloth

Shirt: ASOS
Shoes: Aldo

I've been re-watching The Mindy Project (and hating Danny so much, omg!) and it's making me want to do all the layering and pattern clashing and invest in a ton of sweater vests. Since this print is kind of subtle I thought it was perfect for pairing with this heart print cardigan that has a similar color scheme. And then I kept it simple with a matching belt and nude shoes. Very Mindy, imho!

Remixed item: Pencil print dress from Modcloth

Sweater: Amazon
Necklace: Old Navy
Shoes: Bait Footwear

Have you ever done a faux-crop on a sweater? I love doing this because it makes outfits look more proportional and fitted and it's so easy. Just fold the bottom of the sweater up to your waist, and then back down again to create a little sweater belt! It's so much easier than sewing a new hem on a sweater or trying to find a pre-cropped sweater for sale.

Remixed item: Pencil print dress from Modcloth

Cardigan: Forever21 (old)
Shoes: Aldo
Tights: Amazon
French Fries brooch: Kinks & Quirks

This is probably my go-to look for any dress -- a cardigan, a belt, a brooch, and tights. Voila! You're good to go. Lately I've been liking the look of wearing shoes the same color as my tights since it has a lengthening effect on my short legs.

Did you guess which outfit was my favorite? It was the second one with the red sweater. My Mindy outfit would be a close second :)

un deux trois

I'm bringing back another dormant blog series today! In 2011 and 2012 I used to have a series of outfit remix posts called Un Deux Trois and I thought it would be fun to bring it back! I used to do daily outfit photos, so I had a massive archive of pictures to pick from for these remix posts, but since I don't do quite as many outfit posts these days I'm just taking all three photos at once and then choosing one of the outfits to wear for the day! Can you guess which one was my favorite? I'll write it below, but guess first ;)

Remixed item: Leopard print dress from ASOS

Skirt: Urban Outfitters (old)
Tights : Target
Shoes : ASOS (old)

Here I wore my dress as a shirt, and paired it with a cute mustard cord skirt. I do this a lot (wearing dresses as shirts) and have a particular way of tucking the dress up so it doesn't dip out under the skirt. I think I might do a little video or gif showing how I do that soon!

Remixed item: Leopard print dress from ASOS

Cardigan: Old Navy (old)
Belt: ASOS (old)
Shoes : Bait Footwear

I love love love pairing leopard print with lilac! I've done it a couple times on my blog before, and I just think it's such a unique but perfect color combination. I stuck with all lilac accessories here, but I also love adding a pop of red to this combo, too!

Remixed item: Leopard print dress from ASOS

Velvet crop top: Forever 21 (old)
Collar: Thread and Wonder
Shoes : Bait Footwear

I'm so excited that it's fall so I can break out my favorite boots again. As soon as I got this dress I thought "I need to wear them with my sock boots!!" I feel like leopard print and thigh high boots definitely has a Fran Fine vibe to it, right?

Did you guess which one was my favorite?? It was outfit #1! :D

remixed

I thought it would be fun to do a little remix post, I haven't done one in ages! I think it's partially because when an item in my closet gets worn a lot I tend to wear it in a similar way every time. If I get something brand new I might find an interesting way to incorporate it into an outfit but my tried and true favorites end up getting worn in a similar fashion each and every time. This dress is one of my absolute favorites.. I've only taken photos a handful of the times I've worn it (I think it's neat that I have at least one from each of my rooms though!) It's covered in tiny little plastic beads (they remind me of those dot candies that come attached to strips of paper) and I've worn it so much that they're starting to fall off!

Outfit one: April 2013 - a new chapter
Outfit two: September 2013 - candy dots
Outfit three: April 2014 - happy easter!
Outfit four: August 2014 - if the shoe fits

This is a really good example of how I do a variation on the same outfit when I really love a dress, lol. It's basically white/offwhite shirt / belt / matching shoes every time lol. Strangely though I feel like they are actually a little different - the first and last ones are my favorites. I love how the orange looks against the beige sheer blouse in the first outfit and the contrast against the minty green tights in the last one!

Outfit one: November 2013 - christmasitis
Outfit two: August 2013 - ears looking at you
Outfit three: September 2013 - the hypatia dress, take three
Outfit four: December 2012 - a new favorite

Last but not least is one of my favorite cardigans. Honestly sometimes it's hard not to add this cardigan on top of every dress and call it a day. Whenever I have to quickly get dressed and run out the door, I'll usually grab one of my favorite solid-color dresses and throw on this cardigan for an outfit that feels put-together and fun without putting much thought into it ;)

Outfit one: November 2013 - trousers and cats
Outfit two: February 2014 - let the rain pitter patter
Outfit three: May 2014 - on a roll
Outfit four: July 2014 - copycat

un deux trois // wardrobe remix

remixed item: red scalloped collar dress from modcloth
outfit 1:  white belt - old navy // red belt - f21 // shoes - modcloth
outfit 2: skirt - h&m // white belt - f21 // shoes - c/o blowfish
outfit 3: belt - from another dress // shoes - urbanog

It's been a while since I did a remix post! I actually have a whole stash of ones ready to go and I just keep forgetting to post them. This is one of my favorites, since I love this dress to pieces! It's got the most adorable little scalloped collar and I love the not-quite-short-not-quite-3/4-length sleeves.

I never actually posted the first photo here. It was sitting in my "unused outfits" folder for some reason. I did wear the dress one other time on the blog, but it was a super bad hair day and I don't really want to revisit that lol ;p My favorite of the three is definitely the last and most recent outfit, with the yellow. I'm a sucker for ketchup and mustard!

un deux trois

remixed item: urban outfitters dress from trade with Amber
outfit 1: cardigan - forever 21 | belt - old navy | shoes - blowfish
outfit 2: cardigan - forever 21 | shoes - modcloth | tights - target
outfit 3: cardigan - c/o modcloth | shoes - urbanog

This is one of my favorite dresses... partially because it's so pretty and fits like a glove but mainly because me and Amber got to be friends during this trade *aww* :) But seriously, I wear it quite a bit. It's one of my go-to dresses when I don't feel like spending a lot of time putting an outfit together, because it's so easy to style and always makes me feel put together.

It's funny, I always go back and read the old posts when I do these remixes and in the first one I wrote about having a rough time with my move to Canada (which eventually fell through.) I'm actually going through a bit of a rough patch right now, and reading that post reminded me that no matter what disappointments I'm facing, or how much something may be weighing on my mind day and night, I eventually move on and forget. Not moving to Canada seems like a distant memory now and I don't feel even remotely emotional about it anymore. Eventually the things that seem like colossal failures to me right now will fade, and I'm really glad I was reminded of that today.

un deux trois

remixed item: lace dress from h&m
outfit 1: belt - vintage | shoes - modcloth | hairbow - hive & honey
outfit 2: cardigan & tights - h&m | shoes - from my grandmom | belt - f21
outfit 3: lace cardigan - f21 | tights - h&m | shoes - urbanog

I DIY-ed this dress in April, and thought it would make for a fun remix post! I have quite a few lace dresses, so sacrificing one to the altar of Do It Yourself wasn't too hard, and I love how it came out. I took fake flowers from the craft store and attached them to the bodice with beads and embroidery thread. You can see the instructions and close-ups here! :)

un deux trois

remixed item: red skirt c/o francesca's collections
outfit 1: shirt - asos | cardigan - forever 21 | shoes - c/o blowfish
outfit 2: shirt - old navy | shoes - modcloth | tie - c/o flapper girl
outfit 3: shirt - modcloth | shoes - asos

It's been a while since I did a remix post, so I thought it was time to start them up again! :) I think it's funny that every time I wore this skirt I paired it with a button up blouse! I think I always tend to do that with buttoned skirts for some reason. My favorite in this batch is the middle outfit, with the blue shoes. I love the way teal blue and red look together!

a posh frock friday kind of un deux trois

remixed item: vintage velvet dress
outfit 1: cardigan - forever 21 // bag, tights, shoes - h&m // sunglasses -fred flare
outfit 2: tights - we love colors // shoes - h&m
outfit 3: cardigan - h&m // shoes - target/DIY // tights- we love colors

This is one of my all-time favorite dresses, ever! The only thing is that the top button kept springing open whenever I was wearing it and nobody would tell me. I wore it in April to a street fair in Princeton, and who knows how long I was walking around with my top wide open before I finally looked down and noticed myself. eek!

Of course, I never actually fixed the dress, I just kept wearing it time and again, hoping it wouldn't burst open in public (and it always did.) But finally last month I found a black safety pin in my mom's sewing basket and permanently attached it to the dress (I couldn't sew it closed or else I wouldn't have been able to take it on or off) so all future crises are now averted :) Does anyone else have this problem with button-down clothing? For me, the garments don't even have to be tight in the chest, as long as they have buttons, they'll pop open. Even my oversized button-down pajamas that I wear around the house! I think all of my buttons are cursed.

un deux trois

remixed item: vintage tan skirt
outfit 1: white shirt - vintage // jacket & belt - forever 21 // shoes - blowfish
outfit 2: dress - modcloth // belt - forever 21 // shoes - blowfish
outfit 3: shirt - vintage // vest - from my mom // belt - forever 21 // shoes - blowfish

Am I boring you yet with all the remix posts? lol ;) This is one of my favorites because, despite the fact that I'm wearing the same skirt & shoes (and the same shirt in two of the outfits) they all look pretty different! I love simple little switch-ups like wearing a button-down skirt backwards or rolling up the sleeves of a long-sleeved shirt to make it spring-friendly!
