Went to Vietnam in December for a friend's wedding, technically I didn't really know him, it was my girlfriend's friend's brother's wedding in Ho Chi Minh city. This is a look at the street where I was to camp out for the next 6 days. Very busy, motorbikes zooming by every second. Remember how loud the motobikes are in KL or around your area? In Vietnam, it's that times 300 motorbikes an hour or maybe more!
It was a real eye opener as well as an ear ringer.
This is the shop where the groom stayed, also where Phei Ching and I stayed for the whole trip.
The house was a 4 story house, it's different from the ones in KL in the sense that it's narrow but high. When we first got into the room, we looked out the window and saw this shocking site, an elderly lady hanging clothes on her rooftop, no landing whatsoever, just pure asbestos roof!
This was the coffee that I drank on the first day, the coffee is nothing like I've ever tasted(it would be since I'm not a big fan of coffee),hehe, but the point is, it's thick, refreshing and they serve it with Ice tea.
The shop that we had the coffee in, the chairs in all their coffee shops there are really low and small, quite nice to sit.
err, hehe, yeah, drank beer the first night and ate all sorts of things I wouldn't normally eat at home ie frog, fried bird( not chicken, but the small baby sparrows that fly around your house every morning) haha, it's abit unnerving at first, but.... tasty!
Photo's abit blur, but this is the only way to get around Ho Chi Minh safely, together with the other hundreds of motorbikes zipping around. Scary at first, but after a few days, my fear of riding a motorbike was gone(am even considering a motorbike license in Malaysia) but we'll see how that goes.
This is the small bird I was talking about, marmite style. Had 4 believe it or not, am usually quite squirmish about these kind of things, but I was hungry, haha
Christmas had just passed, these are the decorations the locals did. Every neighbourhood would do their own decorations, simple but nice.
Outside the church where the bride groom were going to get married. Big grotto out of styrofoam and lights.
They celebrate marriage with a cake too, it's a big thing there to get married on New Years.
Grotto maid purely out of styrofoam across the neighbourhood road. Motorbikes zip through this everyday!
On the left is the groom, centre is Phei Ching's Friend Vi and Phei Ching on the right.
I was made "best man" and made to carry traditional stuff to the bride's house. In each red thing are offerings to the bride's family, fruits, rice, chicken, wine and err, plants(haha, really!)
Made to wear a red bow tie together with 7 other people I don't know.
The groom in their traditional costume.
That's all for now.. lots more to go, will keep you posted.
Hope everyone's fine and well in this searing hot weather,
And thanks Yao for reviving the blog.. Nice that it's back again.
