Make your own Perfume

I don't know why I never thought of this idea earlier!
It is very simple to do and the end results are amazing- there also great for christmas pressies :)

What you will need:
empty perfume bottle ( I got mine from ebay for around 2-3 pound)
plastic measuring cup 30ml
vodka
olive oil
essential oil rose
essential oil geranium
essential oil ylang ylang

So first of all the essential oils can be changed to anything you want, these are just my favourites and smell amazing together.
Put 10ml of vodka and 10ml of olive oil in the measuring cup. Added 5 drops of geranium, 2 drops of rose and 1 of ylang ylang.
This perfume will need to be stored in a cool, dry, dark cupboard for two weeks and will need to be lightly shaken twice a day.
And that is it after two weeks you will be ready to use it straight away, again as all the other blends will only last up to six months

Christmas prezzies

So I haven't posted on my blog for a while now. So i going to share somethings you can make for great christmas presents. Lip balm and body cream :)

Lip balm
What you will need:
Essential oil peppermint
Carrier oil almond oil
Beeswax

So first you wi need to grate the beeswax, approx. 2 tablespoons worth and you will need 2 tablespoons oil the almond oil. I mixed these in a cup and heated up slowly by placing the cup in warm water and gentle brought to the boil(this takes around 5 minutes). The beeswax will of conpleted melted after 5 minutes, I suggest you stir this ocassionally. After this i mixed in 2 drops of peppermint oil and poured in a small jar it solidified within a minute and thats it your ready to go :).

Beeswax can be bought online for around £2 for a small bar online

Body cream
What you will need:
Essential oil grapefruit
Essential oil lavender high alp
Carrier oil almond
Carrier oil olive
Vitiamin E tablet
Boiled water
Beeswax

I again added 3 tablespoons of almond oil,1 tablespoon of olive oil into a cup. Spilt the vitiamin E tablet and poured in the liquid and grated around 1 tablespoon of beewax. Add this all into the cup along with around 1\4 a cup of boiled water. I placed the cup in a pan of warm water and slowly heated stirring ocassionally- like the lip balm- this took around 8 minites for it all to melt.
I then added 3 drops of grapefruit and 10 drops of lavender and mixed all the mixture together. I poured into a small jar again and let cool.

The mixture seperated slightly at the bottom wasn't sure why but it still does wonders for dry skin :)

You could really use whatever essential oils you like I choose lavender, grapefruit and peopermint purely because of there properties and they smell yummy

So there it is 2 simple, easy and cheap ways of making something thoughtful as a christmas present.

Colds

So my friend was complaining about having a horrible cold so I decided to try something different and make the oils stronger than usual, I found the blend for the bath online, She hasn't got back to me yet about results but here it is anyway.

Cold
what you will need:

grapeseed carrier oil or milk
eucalyptus smithii essential oil
marjoram essential oil
tea tree essential oil
peppermint essential oil
plastic measuring cup
dark glass bottle

If you want to use this in the bath I would use 10 drops of eucalyptus smithii, 10 drops of marjoram, 5 drops of tea tree and 5 drops of peppermint. I mixed this with 10 ml of milk so it wouldn't all separate in the bath. Use about half of the blend and mix with the milk, be careful this is a very strong blend so I wouldn't use if you have overly sensitive skin. Also as the oil properties can help with the cold they are also energizing and will definitely wake you up so don't use to late at night or you wont be able to get to sleep later.

If wanting to use these oils as a blend on your skin. I would use 5 drops of eucalyptus smithii, 5 drops of marjoram, 2 drops of tea tree and 2 drops of peppermint and mix with grapeseed oil as it is nourishing and light. Store the blend in a small dark glass bottle and rub the bottle in your hands for a few minutes to mix the oils all together. Then 2-3 times a day you should put 3-4 drops of the oil in the palm of your hand and with your fingers put the oil blend across your forehead, the bridge of your nose and on your temples. Be careful not to get the blend in your eyes or up your nose as it can be extremely dangerous.
This blend will last up to about 6 months, but store in a dark, dry place as well as in the bottle :)

Holiday Time :)

So I have just came back from the most amazing holiday ever, however in the process I got attacked by mosquitos and got burnt to a crisp. I still didn't want it to end though.
So here are a few tips for your own holiday :)
I didn't try them while I was there but tried them when I got back last night.

Mosquito Bites

What you will need:

carrier oil- Almond oil
essential oil- lavender
essential oil- eucalyptus globus
essential oil- peppermint
dark glass bottle
plastic measuring cup
I used one drop of each and mixed them with 30 ml or almond oil.
It worked great on my bites the itchiness and swelling have almost completely gone.
The lavender minamise the itchiness where the eucalyptus and peppermint are anti toxic.

I have been putting it on every 4/5 hours or so today when I start to feel a slight itch, its amazing :).
make sure to store this blend in a dark glass bottle to keep it from reacting with the sunlight until you use it again. The 30ml blend lasted the day for me but if your making more it will again only keep up to 5 days.

Sun Burn

What you will need:

carrier oil- almond oil
essential oil- lavender
essential oil- rose
plastic measuring cup

I used 3 drops of each essential oil and again 30 ml of almond oil, I rubbed it all over my legs, legs and feet, I used up the 30 ml in one go. So made another blend for before I go to bed. These 2 essential oils are anti-inflammatorys and pain relieving.

tip- if its on your back thats sunburnt or any other hard to reach places, try diluting it with water (100ml) rather than almond oil and put in a spray bottle so they will be easier to reach, this will again keep for around 5 days.

Also great for your sunburn is aloe vera which is in most after suns but also in most cheap body lotions as well, just make sure if you decide to use these inside that they aren't perfumed!

Help Your Hair

Essential oils are in just about every product you buy from shampoo to washing powder. I have found a amazing oil blend that does wonders for your hair.

Loads of things change how your hair feels and looks, what you eat and drink and what you use on our hair (synthetic shampoos and conditioners etc) even down to small things like how much sleep you get.

If your like me and have the worst conditioned hair ever! then this is sure to help. When I was at college we were taught to never use more than 3 essential oils at one time when applying it on a person, and also to never use more than 3 drops of each of them too. You should also use a carrier oil to mix the essential oils in, there are many different ones will loads of different properties.
I tried loads of different blends until I came upon this amazing one. It leaves your hair feeling silky, smooth and shiny. I rub in on my hair when its dry before I go to bed once a week and leave it in over night to get the full effects, if you can't do this at least leave it on for a few hours.

Essential oils can be found in Health food stores and online, you will find the odd one here and there in the medicine departments in Superdrug and Boots, the range in prices too but it is worth it to buy the more expensive ones trust me! They are much better quality.

You will need:

Carrier oil- coconut oil
Essential oil- peppermint
Essential oil- lavender
Essential oil- sandalwood
Small measuring cup

I tend to use around 10ml of the coconut oil and one drop of each essential oil. Rub the blend into your hair for a couple of minutes, the same way you would apply shampoo, do this just before you go to your bed. I then brush my hair to make sure it is evenly spread across my hair. Remember to put a towel over your pillow before you put your hair anywhere near it the oils are a pain to get out from bed covers!! You hair will feel absolutely horrible when you wake up (just a warning). Wash your hair, shampoo it twice or your hair will still feel greasy. It will now feel amazing!! Good luck.

If this blend doesn't work as well for you as it does for me I suggesting use a maximum of three of the following essential oils:

For dry hair- geranium, rosemary, lavender, sandalwood, peppermint
For oily hair- rosemary, lemon, lemongrass, cypress lavender
For dandruff- rosemary, lemon, lavender, cedarwood, thyme, basil, cypress, sage

My First Ever Blog!!

Hello :)

So I have just graduated as a Complimentary Therapist which I am unbelievably happy that I have achieved this in my life. I love doing all of it from armoatherapy (my favourite) to reflexology. I want to share some of the amazing, useful things I have learned, as I have become obsessed with using essential oils and household products for just about everything and anything. I have never done a blog before so here it goes....

So my first tip came from my teacher and is a boring but simple and useful one.
To make your own cleaning products that are safe to use anywhere in your house, however not your bedroom as the oils you need to use are refreshing and uplifting and therefore keep you awake at night ( I learned this from experience). But can be used just about anywhere your toilet, floor anywhere :)....

You will need:

Essential oil-tea tree
Essential oil- lemon or lemongrass
Water
Spray bottle ( these can be picked up cheap from Sallys or Superdrug)

It is easy enough to make just take 100ml of cold water and put in 10 drops of tea tree and 10 drops of lemon or lemongrass. Then give it a mix up and pour into your bottle. Thats you ready to go, it smells lovely and the smell tends to last around your house for a few days as well. Store it in a cool, dry place

Note: this blend will only last for about 5 days before you will have to get rid of it.
