Joey's surgery

So it's been... 5 months since I've posted. BAD BLOGGER! Don't know why I've been so bad about it, but I have. But I haven't given up on my blog. I do want to keep posting because I know my kiddos will enjoy it some day. But I had to post about Joey's surgery. Recently he's had issues with Sleep Apnea, which Kris has. So I took him to the doctor and described his symptoms and the doc looked in his mouth and said that his tonsils were huge and were probably causing part of the problem. So he referred us to an ENT doctor who recommended Tonsil and Adenoid removal. I was hesitant to put my 5y/o through surgery when it wasn't 'tecnically' necessary yet, but would be some day. And we decided it's better to try to take care of the problem while he is young because it's harder as they get older. So last Thursday, June 16, Joey went in for his surgery.

This is right after we got in the room and dressed in his gown. You can see how nervous the poor kid is! :( He was a little trooper all day though! Thankfully they came in with versed about 45 minutes before they took him back to surgery.

This is Joey after the versed started working. He was much more relaxed and he was HILARIOUS. I did get a little video of him but I didn't take it at teh right time! He was getting sleepy so we laid down the bed and turned down the lights. Then he started reaching slowly into the air over and over again. I asked him what he was reaching for and he said the 'fuzzies'. I said 'what fuzzies?' and he, in his slurred speech, said 'there's little teeny tiny fuzzies. Like bb's, but TINY bb's. And they're pink. PINK!!' ha ha - he had us laughing quite a bit.

They finally took Joey back at about 9. Kris and I ran down to the cafeteria to get breakfast and came back up by 9:30. The screen on the wall said that the surgery had started at 9:27. We started eating and our buzzer went off at about 9:45 to tell us Joey was out of surgery already! (His surgery wasn't even scheduled til 10 - it was nice to have a hospital running ahead of schedule!) They took us back into a patient consult room and the surgeon came in and told us Joey did great in surgery and he was headed to recovery, we would get to see him soon. The doc did say that his tonsils were just HUGE and it's a good thing that we had them removed because they would have caused alot of problems as time went on.
This is my baby after. They finally called us back to see him and I could hear him crying as I went down the hall. I was sad they woke him up before we got there, but it wasn't long before. He was very sad when I got there - and not real 'with' it. He was obviously in pain. They had given him a purple popcicle that he was happy to eat, but he was crying at the same time. After he finished his popcicle they gave him another dose of morphine and he went back to sleep. I was happy to see him sleeping comfortably - it broke my heart to see him SO uncomfortable when they first woke him up.

While we were waiting Kris found that a good time to sleep too....

Since, he has been doing as good as can be expected. He's been tired and uncomfortable, but he's been a trooper. He does NOT like the tylenol w/ codiene they gave him - it tastes nasty. So he's mainly just been on regular tylenol, which seems to at least take the edge off the pain. He hasn't been sleeping real great at all. I hope hope hope he getts feeling better soon! I just feel so bad for the poor kid! I hate seeing my kiddos in pain.

Joey Chatter - skinny

As I was working out on the eliptical machine the other day Joey got bored. So he came to the basement and started chatting with me.

Me: Go play. I'll let you know when I'm done.

Joey: You're taking forever to be done.

Me: This is what I have to do if I want to be skinny.

Joey accepted this and went about playing. When I finished, I went to where he was playing.

Me: Ok Joey - I'm done.

Joey: (Looking at me doubfully) You're not skinny yet Mom...

Gee.... Thanks...

--------------------------------------------------------------

A few days ago, randomly

Joey: I'm skinny because you borned me that way.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Tonight while eating dinner it was DELICIOUS and I was way over eating.

Me: I have GOT to stop eating! But this is SO good!

After I took a few more bites...

Joey: MOM - Stop eating! Do you want to get more of this?? (poking my fat)

I'm starting to think Joey is a bit too aware of my weight and dieting... This probably isn't a good thing!

Joey Chatter

Driving home last night Joey was looking out the window and said

"Where's the moon?" (although it wasn't particularly cloudy, there weren't many stars out yet)

I said "I don't know - maybe it's not up yet'

Joey: "Well... I think it got lost."

Apparently the moon was in the sky on Savanna's side of the car and she pointed up and shouted "There it is ! Right there! No moon lost. Right there!"

TUBING!

I have always heard about people going 'Tubing' and it sounded kinda fun, but I was never motivated enough to actually go. I had NO clue how fun it would be!! Joey and I took a trip with my BFF Amy and her 3 kiddos. My sister Amanda was kind enough to keep Savanna. I did see kiddos Savanna's age there, but I'm glad I didnt' take her. #1 - it's $20-$25 per person, regardless of age, and #2 - there is NO way I would have been able to drag her tube and her up that hill every time! Even with a conveyor belt! Also, #3, I think she would have been too scared! Joey, on the other hand, LOVED it. Our first trip down, when i was petrified I turned around to check on him and he shouted 'THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!' LOL - goofy boy.

Here's Joey with his tube. :) Don't let him fool you - I drug his tube up that hill the other 200 times we went!

The cool conveyor belt that took us up! I just about fell the first couple times getting on, but then I got the hang of it. It's certainly not as easy as getting on an escalator!!

Joey and his tube. :)

A pic I snapped of our group going DOWN. It was FAST!!

Another DOWN!

Joey waiting to go down. :)

We went on New Years Eve. It was a HOT 60 degress!! Since we dressed for snow, we were all sweating like crazy. But hey - it was a good work out!! And I would take 60 degress over 0 degrees any day.

My BFF Amy and her little girl Alyssa. Brandon, Amy's 15 year old, is in the back.

Joey and his buddy Alyssa. It was SUCH a fun day and I can't wait to do it again! It was SO worth the $ and the drive!!

Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas!! This year was a great year for us. I LOVE Christmas time. I do think it's over commercialized, and I get annoyed that they put Christmas stuff out at Halloween!! But once December hit, I was in the Christmas spirit!! :) I just think it's so fun to do with the kids. And just the spirit of the season is just so heart warming. :) Here are some pictures of our adventures this past Christmas season!

I made some 'melted snowman' cookies for Christmas. SO good and SO cute!! :) And fairly easy!

Joey asked for one thing consistently this year - a 'Cyclaws' RC car. He was SO excited to find it under the tree ready to go on Christmas!
It goes really fast!

Savanna in her Christmas Jammies!

This year we went to see Santa when he visited the fire station! They took some professional pictures which they are supposed to e-mail me of my kiddos with Santa, but I've yet to see those. :( Hopefully I get them soon because I didn't take any pictures of the kiddos with Santa since they had a professional there! I should have snapped some of my own because i'm losing faith I'll get them...

Joey LOVES playing on the big fire truck.

:) She's so cute.

Here's Santa!!

He actually came rolling in not on a sleigh with reindeer, but on a fire truck!! With lights and sirens going! It scared the kids at first, but then they thought it was pretty cool!!

This is all the kiddos that run through my hosue every day. We do a yearly 'christmas picture' with the group, and this was my group this year!! Love them! (You should try to organize 7 kids for a picture some time...)
Had to add this pic for good measure. Savanna cracks me up!!

Savanna was very intense when decorating her cupcakes.

This is the 'Christmas Countdown' we used this year. :) Joey LOVED taking out (and eating!) a candy cane each day!

This is our Christmas Ornament ICU... I can't even tell you how many ornaments Savanna broke this year!! Some were able to be saved by super glue. Others just had to be tossed. :( Such is Christmas with a 2 year old!!

Kid Chatter - Are you sweaty?

Joey after eating a candy cane:
  • "If I am having trouble breathing, I just need to eat a candy cane!" That one seriously made me LOL!
I recently bought some new mary kay make up that has some sparkles in it (I love sparkly stuff). Today Joey was talking to me, and was pretty close when he stopped and looked closer, then said:
  • 'Why do you have sparkles on your face? Are you sweaty?'
Joey was at my dad's house and my dad was getting a new printer out of the box. Joey asked him to play with the styrofome, to which my dad said no, because it would make a mess. Then, later in the evening he went to my mom and asked Grandma:

  • "Grandma - are you the boss? Can I play with the styrofoam?"
This was a while ago, and I can't remember if I blogged it or not, so if I did, I'm blogging it again... I still jsut love it!! We have a little magnent board with magnent letters. One day Joey worked VERY hard on spelling out "I love mom" After he finished he looked at me and said:
  • "I sended you a text message!!"

Now this is NOT so good, and we are working on it, but I love the little Mr. Attitude that's coming out in him... it's funny, but of course we're working on being respectful! Just the other day I gave him dinner and told him to start eating and he said:

  • "HELLO? MOM! You never gave me a drink!!" He sounded more like a teenage girl than a 5 year old boy!! I told him to try again and he sheepishly said 'Please, mom, can you get me some milk?' ha ha!

Now little Savanna has REALLY started chattering ALOT lately. We took away her plug (pacifier) Thanksgiving weekend and ever since she has been talking a ton. And she's so funny! Her favorite things to say is

  • When she fixes things: "There. All better"

  • When I ask her where something is "Over there. Table." No matter where the specific object is, to her it's 'Over there. Table."

  • She typically calls me mom, but because she's around kids I babysit all day, all who call me Sara or Miss Sara, when she's requesting something she ALWAYS calls me Sara. "Mook, Sara, Mook!" (Mook is savanna speak for milk) Or "Play, Sara, Play!" or "Food, Sara, Food!"

  • She has quite the sense of humor and is always cracking her self up when she's talking, but I rarely understand what she's saying.

  • She'll bring me the remote control and yell 'ROCKET!' (Savanna speak for Little Einsteins) or "KITTY" (Savanna speak for Tom and Jerry)

Love these goofy kids!!
