Counting Down

47 days to go but only 34 work days. Not that I am counting of course, like a true geek I wrote a program to do that for me. I only have to click on it and it tells me the count.

We are working hard to get the stuff in the house sorted. The categories are keep and store, goes with us in the MoHo, give away and a couple of new categories: put in the MoHo IF there’s room and put in the POD IF there’s room. I know we are making progress but the house doesn’t look like it except in a few places. The current storage locker does look better after we spent most of Saturday on it. Justin came and helped us a lot. He took the baseball cards and his stuff, helped us load things for donations. There is still more than I would like in there, but more will go (I hope).

The sorting of old papers makes for a lot of shredding. I think the shredder is going to be worn out when we are done.

Some people have asked me if I am nervous or scared. No, not really. I’ve made big changes in my life before. Retired from the Navy once, that was a big change. And all the transfers in the Navy, going to new commands and new jobs and sometimes new countries. This is really more exciting than anything. I am a little nervous about getting it all done by when we want to leave. But well if we aren’t ready by then we’ll just take the time we need to get ready. I will be retired! I interpret that to mean no deadlines. We do have a loose plan but without a plan you have nothing to change.

The plan in general is go to South Dakota establish our residency there. If that happens in time then to Estes Park CO to say hi to the Norton clan who will be having a family reunion there. Then to Illinois to visit with family for a little while, via Hastings, MN (more family). Then on to Indiana for a Grow / Sayre reunion, back to the Elgin area to spend the rest of the summer and part of the fall there with brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Then we'll wander to Tucson where we’ll spend the holidays. Sometime in the spring of '15 we’ll head east in the sunbelt with the destination of Maine in August for the lobster festivals. Notice the S, we intend to visit and participate in more than one. How much lobster can you eat? Susan says there is never enough lobster.

There are lots of historical markers and interesting places to visit along the way. We have friends and family scattered across this great country of ours and we hope to see you as we travel. We’ll visit places we’ve liked before and find some new ones.
