Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas everyone!
Hope you had a good one.
I had enjoy my xmas. It was not planned but it turned out good.
The fun started on xmas eve and the baking adventure started on the 22Dec.

On the 22dec, i'd made raspberry cupcakes with raspberry cream cheese topping + white choc as deco. It turned out not too bad. Here's a pix of it.



Then we were invited to Zinesh and Robyn's place for xmas dinner.
Nice...got to hear lots of gossips and exchange of information.so fun. HAHA
ya can see i'm deprived of them.
anyway..i'd baked some cream puffs over for them
din turn out to be really sucessful cos of the filling. It was dripping all over but at least everyone ate all. hehe..
Shd hv brought ice cream so ppl can eat with them.

And my xmas present from Adrene was a box of cookiemon cookies. YUM

The fun continues on xmas day.
Went over to adrene's place to try out her new massage chair. OMG..shiokness..
I baked something over again. hehehe..some vanilla cupcakes with raspberry cream cheese frosting.



Then headed for Kenneth and Lynn's place to have dinner with them
Dinner is simple but nice.
Xmas ended with a game on Wii Sport Resort.
Fun. i think wii games are fun when u play with a group of friends.
We tried some games as it is getting late.

Boxing day... wanted to go to the sale but didnt make in time as we went to watch the movie Sherlock Holmes. hmmm...not too bad. Need to stay focus due to the dialogues and language used. V refined.
had a difficult time to find somewhere for dinner as most places are closed.
managed to find some asian resturants and then head to Kenneth's place to talk.
We were watching some tv program on travel/nature and it triggered Kenneth to suggest to go Mt Tamborine the next day to have a walk there.
And so..we went home early to rest as we are hitting the roads at 7am the next day.

It was raining on a Sunday morning at 650am..it is so nice to sleep ...but i've to pull myself up
anywa..we went over to meet kenneth and drove up to mt tamborine.
It is worth it even though is raining.
when we reached there not many shops are open.
only 1 cafe was open n we had breakfast there.
it was not too bad. quite nice.
had an interesting drink: orange mint juice.
not too bad but kei cant take the sourness.

next we went to find the cheese factory but was not opened yet so we decide to try our luck on the ice cream shop that sells the award winning choc ice cream.
it is nice...really thick n yet not too sweet. Yummm..

After having ice cream, we explored around the town and came across a botanic garden.
it is wet but is still nice.
more n more ppl came after we went ard the garden.

wanted to go for the skywalk but we din cos it is too expensive!!!
so we head to another suburb, Inala for veitnamese lunch.
not too bad. tried a drink that lynn introduced us to. Nice..

food is ma ma desu.

After lunch we decided to head back to rest.
Ended that we played Wii sports resort again. heheeh..
we tried other games.
So fun..whaahhaha...nearly didnt want to have dinner cos too fun. whahha
Had dinner at this korean place..food is nice. hehehe..
ah....what a fun day. I'm v happy thanks to everyone for the day.


and i just get to know we are invited for a new year eve dinner..
i hope it stays this way until the end of the year as i was having a lot of shit things for the past few weeks.

Shit..all the good food and rest during xmas had made me fat.
Time to burn them off if not when CNY comes i'll put on more!! damn it!!

suddnely have the idea to make backpacks and clothes for little bunny n kitten
it will be more interesting this way
hmm..need to seek out or draw designs of the clothes and bags
then find cloth at lincraft.
heheh whaha...maybe will seek imouto's help.

Imouto coming to visit..quite excited.

new new new

went to bought 2 new gold fishes to join the big family of fishes we hv now.
1 black 1 white.
the black one looked restless , somehow like stress.
the white one adapted v quickly, and was fighting for food with the rest of the bigger
fishes.
was worried for the black one as he didnt eat much.

bought some plants for their tank too..something new for them.
think i trained them well with the fake ones cos they wont eat it. hehe

however, sadly, both die after a while.
white one had his tail stuck in the sucking pipe n it die.
black one, had some white spots n die. so sad.

we also sign up for a new activity... jap class.
erm..ok it will start only on 21nov so..er..whaha i'll update u abt it.
will be interesting as it is going to be with ric n aud n kei.
hope the cher is gd or at least approachable.

and i've a new activity....gym.
ya...sign up to go gym with kei in order to build up the stamina n strength n for overall wellness.
anyway..er...v interesting.. seems like going to the gym once a wk only. HAHAAH
hey...is better than nothing.
have to cos ..we tend to eat alot on the wkends. whahah..gosh.

so i've so many activities coming up.
of cos i nv forget abt my baking.
went to get some new baking things and
baked madelines..hmm it is ok but will try again next time.
i'm going to try sponge cake again...until i manage to have one proper one.

and lastly..i wanna watch new moon. whaahha...
yeah..coming out next wk n i'm looking fwd to it.

Springbrook

Springbook..wohoo..another national park.
this time we went with ric n aud.
weather was not that gd..it rained when we were half way down to the waterfall.
luckily we found a big stone that acts as a shelter for us.
stayed there for almost 30mins or more.
we rushed back to our car when the rain was away for a while.
due to such weather we decide to head to gold coast instead.
wanted to see the natural bridge but next time..cos the weather is really not favourable.

and..this trip turns out to be like a eating trip.
on the way out of the park we saw a fudge shop.
gosh... so many flavours n all look gd. hehe..
we bought some n hit the road.

after abt an hr or so, we reached gold coast.
went to the beach for a walk..
then go to the jap resturant for dinner.
and guess what...we saw ely n brandon there. hehe..of all places but gold coast.

anyway...dinner is gd.
this is not the end, we continue for dessert, the waffle and pancake shop.
gosh... each of us have either a waffle or pancake.
i had waffle n it tastes gd with ice cream. yummm

erm..*cough* ya felt guilty after eating so much!!!
and maybe that is why ric is on diet now.
he only eat salad or more healthy food now. hehehe

Oreilly's

oooh havent been blogging lately.
ok catching up time.
hmm... had been visiting some national parks lately.
the first on the list is: O'reilly's national park.
was a long drive and not an easy one.
it took us 2++hr to reach there.
kei was tired after that.

the attraction of o'reilly's national park is the tree top walk.
kei is afraid of heights n i was a bit
but the thought of not even have a taste of it after a 2++hr ride up the mountain
makes me continue the tree top walk.

din really have many pix however i'm introducing my companions who travelled with us.
They will be the models for photos instead of us from now onwards. hehe.

1stly, the uni finally sent out my thesis for examination. FINALLY after a month.

2ndly, i'm going on leave. yeah!! whaha

it is tiring even though it is a part time job. maybe cos is programming in a language i don't know.

3rdly,..hmm..i dun know how to break this news BUT we are engaged. yeah! whahaah

happy until i cant sleep on that day. HAHA

time flies, and it had been 3.5wks since i'd handed up my Thesis.

Don't feel like it.

What had i been up to?

Was fixing up a paper, had to put on hold in order to self learn a programming language.

Now..doing programming for iphone.

cool? ya sounds cools.

i hate programming. (YES I'm stuck , can u sense my frustration?sigh)

Wkends usually is my time to catch up on sleep.

Havent got much lately cos of meeting up and getting gifts to bring back to sg.

Yes visiting SG for 2wks or so...will talk abt this later.

Anyway, after i handed up my thesis, i catch up on the drama i wanted to watch, Fringe on the first wkend.

Also setup my photo album website. Kinda getting there now.

2nd wkend, we had a get-together with friends for Riverfire which is a celebration of the start of Spring with fireworks along the river, thus the name.

I tot the fireworks was not as gd as last years one though.

Maybe was better on the bridge.

3rd wkend, aw..busy.

Catching up with a couple of friends to collect things on Sat.

We were so tired after that.

Went to catch a HK movie, Accident later.

Interesting plot but as for the ending, i'm not v happy with.

Sun, Kei's boss invited us for a Multicultural dinner at his place.

Nice place he has, nice food n company.

was so full after the dinner which lasted for 4-5hrs!

gosh..

i'm still feeling full the next morning.

but all is gd, i got a free bottle of wine from his boss. kekekek

is a nice wine, sweet, n light. keke

so that is my wkends after i submited my thesis.

and my next 2 wkends or so will be in SG!

yeah..having mix feelings abt it cos i will lose my freedom when i go back and i dread the humid weather.

on the other hand, i get to catch up with everyone, eat the food n do the stock up(shopping) kekeke..

currently i'm in the lab waiting for my laptop to get to work.

had been here for an hr ++ n my 'boss' is not even in yet.

i had to use the macbk to work on..n he brought it home last wkend to 'play' with it.

crap..

sometimes is so gd to be paid monthly than by hours (thats me)

every hour is precious to me compared to them.

and i dont earn that much due to such hold up.sigh...sian.

when the thesis drama is going on, another issue arised concurrently.
i'm suppose to help a post doc with a proj n yst our boss = my sup
said he doesnt trust us in doing it.

said he wants a journal paper, a working application etc
can we do it? he said he dont believe we can.
even said we need to publish more(usual nagging) so we can get fundings.
he wants so many things and said he doesnt trust us to achieve all of them.
at the end of the meeting, he said : i think we shd change the proj, i don't think u guys can do it.
WTF

i told the post doc..IF he is feeling so unsafe, then ask him to replace me with someone who is more experienced in the development work.
i'm so pissed with the boss's comments.
if this is way of 'motivating' us, gosh..so wrong.
will some how mk us work but we wont be working happily instead work with grudge.

I'm back

Hi everyone i'm back from the cave life.
hmm...
a lot had happened even till the last min when i handed up my thesis.
writing, proof reading, editing, printing, binding, burning the CD and finding the office and officer (lots of walking) to hand up my thesis.

what screws it, is when your sup asked u to make changes after you submited it.
and u hv to 'beg' the officer to let you make the changes before they are send out for external panels. once she agreed, i've to walk over n collect it. walk n more walking.

so after making the changes, reprint, rebind, reburn the CD, find the officer (walking walking..)
when you tot u are done, the director said: i heard u hv a traffic police report in ur thesis. can you show it to me?

i showed it as instructed and guess what he replied?
he said: hmm...this might be an isssue, u might have to take it out. anyway i wont sign it off until everything is sure.

!$%@#^ that means i've to go thru the process again which is to reprint, rebind, reburn the CD and then more walking. omg.. halleluyah. i like to have wings. shd drink red bull then.hmm..

now crossing fingers i wont have to do that again else the librarians will recognize me cos i'll be there for the 3rd time in a wk n next to their office using the binding machine which is soooooooo noisy.

gosh..ok back to editing a paper which i dun hv motivation for it. Wat to do..

wanted to make almond toffee crunchie for a while.
seems easy..so tried it the other night.
and omg..taste so good. heeh..
had a little accident therefore it has to be thrown away.

i'm so happy that my puffs is puffing up this time. sooooo v happy.

Lost

is not abt the tv drama series.
is abt me.

just cried a whole lot out.
pressure i guess...
i was told at 630pm to write a grant that is due 5pm today.
i was thinking n thinking of ideas, all the ones i tot of were done by other researchers.
think n think n find lit review till almost 2am..gave up.
felt so lost, so useless.maybe i'm just not the type to be researcher.
and this grant might be my further job however, i just cant think of anything.
virus attacked the main control of my body?not sure.

and then this lead to me feeling so down, so little so useless...
realised i still havent find the ans to what job i shd look for, what are my strengths, wat area shd i be in..blah blah blah..
and kei was nagging away exactly what i was thinking n said i just sit there and say i'm useless doesnt help (who doesnt know dat, want a self pity moment only) so it got worse... and i started crying.

this morning sup sent an email nagging abt my missing pictures in my appendix -_-"
so i have to edit it again anyway i'll fix up other minor issues b4 he say anything.
sigh...
then kei this morning continue his nagging saying that ppl ard my age has working exp of 7-10
yet i'm lost, which is dangerous.blah blah blah..

sigh..just make me feel worse...cried again.

so not motivated to write..but gotta write.
i'm writing only a bit per day..v slow..v bad.

and no matter how many times i edit, my sup is nv satisfied. always scold n say is boring so since i know i'll be scolded what is the point of writing. wahha negative thinking.sigh..just sian lar.. how i wish i have a magic pen / keyboard.hehe..

today is Anzac day over here...no anzac cookies..din manage to bake it.
was tidying up the place in case there are guests after the pot luck at Andrew's.
yeah..so i was busy baking the curry puffs for the pot luck. no time to write.

so tired now..*yawn*.

ooh Andrew bought a puppy..tibetian spaniel. 7wks old only.
bites and scatch pple..gosh..v stubborn/determined dog.
he wont end a fight without trying. heeh.. nah..is just that he wont give the toy once he got a hold on it. he will fetch but wont give. if u try snatching he will hang on it tight.

stressss

been quite stress lately.
partly cos of writing. is due in less than a mth.
so my sup had been pushing n pushing for chapters every now n then.
had a v bad headache last nite. couldn't do any work.


easter is coming up = many things to do.
1. need to produce a draft thesis for co-sup in melb to read over the easter 1 wk break==due on thurs.
2. headache over what to wear n hairdo for ely's wedding. no dress yet.nothing actually. cos i cant find any i like.
3. thinking what to bake for easter.
4. need to tidy up the garage n get rid of the mouse in the house.
5. clean n tidy up the house to make sure no other pests are around. there had been ants, worms, rats..disgusting.
6. maybe even paint the house.

and hopefully we can manage to do most of the things within this long wkend. sigh. shall see how everything go.

sat was gingersnap n sun is green tea cookies.
always wanted to make the green tea cookies but i kept delaying it.
thus..this is the time to try out the recipe that i'd received from a fren.

michelle gave us choc pies and lace cookies.
i like the lace cookies.
we finished it n kei requested for more cookies and stated it to be light.
so i find my recipe list and found something interesting to try.
and..ta-da..choc almond cookies n it is light.

Strawberry yoghurt cupcakes

michelle requested for fruit cupcakes.
so since i've strawberry yoghurt..which i bought it wrongly when i'm in my blur state. Hence, came out the idea of strawberry yoghurt cupcakes.
Did a google and voila n found one recipe.

i quite like it..hehe.. ^_^

kei saw me looking at oreo cupcakes on the web n requested to hv some.
soo i tried.. and is what they look like.
hmm..had some with green bkgrd..dont seem to be good. next time i'll figure out how to bake it nicer.

There were 2 types of frosting: oreo cream cheese and just plain cream cheese frostings.

St Patrick's day

i almost forget that it is st pats day today.
until a fren ate my green tea yoghurt cupcake n made a comment about it.
yeah..and so coinciden that i made green tea cupcakes and had green tea + red bean bun for the day.hehe..

made devil's food cupcake last sat for a tupperware party.
was ok..better than b4...still not happy abt it.Hehehe..

frosting is failure..lucky i din put it on it.

chili-phobia

tried making chili paste on wed nite n it out disasterous.
my hands were burning hot after cutting finish the 2 cups of chillies.
it is soooo painful and i used all kind of remedies.. from lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, vodka, vaseline, ice, water...etc.
in the end i gave up, tied my hands in a wet towel n blow them infront of a fan.
it helps to cool them down a bit ..n is boring to just sit in front of the fan ...
so i started from the sitting to laying down positions.
the pain lasted ard 5-6hrs..yes..it is no fun.
i cant really touch water the next day cos it is so sore.
my finger joints hurt..now still a bit but not as painful as on thurs..
not a gd experience. i kept forgetting abt the gloves.sigh..regret big time.

not only the chili i have to bear, i used garlic..so i was finding out ways to get rid of the garlic smell n the most amazing way i found is : rub ur hands on stainless steel! er..of cos i dun hv to chance to do it when i'm at uni.
so..i cant remember how i get rid of it or i din even bothered? whaha
cos....i just found out my thesis is due in 2 wks time.
SHIT BIG TIME.
sigh..shit..so stress now...reschedule everything.sigh..
alright hv a great wkend while i'm trying to 'work' here.

fed up

hmm..first..bday gifts..i got none from my wish list but i do have some gifts.
not many..must be due to recession.
hmm..think..only 1 gift from jasmine...wa...so sad.sigh..sigh..

then my comp wont cooperate..
it gave me a blue screen on thurs night.
sigh..i'm still fixing it.
installed linux on another partition but i'm hving problem using it.
sigh..maybe i shd just forget about getting msn on linux too..hehehe..

i'm so used to using windows..linux is so new to me again.
sigh..
shd i just go for Mac ??
i think it is going to be another steep learning curve.

i feel so lousy now..my laptop failed on me..
i've no mood to write for my results chp cos i need to rewrite again.
i injured my middle finger on my right hand.
it hurts even if i touch it gently so it is so much worse when i'm typing this.
how i injured it? erm.. a fork poke thru my nail.

dun feel like doing anything.

kei's present is pending..yeah he havent got me anything..will be belated.

anyway we walked ard city which we rarely do now..cos parking is expensive n it is sooooooooooooo far now.
anyway walked ard, had dinner hanaichi resturant, the service SUCKS big time.
this is going to be the last time i'm going there.sucks man.
suppose to go to the pineland one but it is closed on mondays.
so sad.... i luv their sashimi..yeah i'm starting to love sashimi now..after i'd ate the salmon sashimi from this particular shop. hehehe

then we catch a movie- underworld 3.
it is a great way to end the day..nice.
by the time the movies end we are so tired, drove home..n..sigh..back to work.
crap.. it is like back to reality.

oh..n adrene is so nice to skype with me n the doggies..
the doggies enteretained me really for almost 20mins..hehe
they were curious where my voice was coming out when i speak.
so cute..esp honey, looking here n there.

thinking abt my passion for photography..

anyway..realised i din take many photos last year.
this year..not much..had been either food or doggie photos.
so i'm thinking: why not try ALL kinds of photography this year as a new challenge.
so that i can find out what i'm gd at.
ok..so it is feb now... so left like almost 10mths..n 8-9mths if i really wanna spend more time after my thesis..hv to start listing out what types of photography there is..n then come out with a plan.

i cant do it now..so i still have time to plan.

Doggies

the plan was to visit adrene's place n visit Honey n mikki of cos.
n it did go well.
however there was a drama b4 i was there...they had a snake in the living room.
so when we are backin the place, both of us are a bit paranoid..yes..both of us are afraid of snakes.
anyway..i had a great time with her n the doggies.
honey is so adorable... a 3mth old pup.
so cute...hehe
she is not big..just nice..a yorkshire cross maltese...so i guses she wont get much bigger than mikki.wahahha..i like her.hehehhe..

ya..i always give her massage n she likes it.
if i stop massaging while talking to adrene, she will look up n give me that " please can i have more" look. so cute..hehehe

things just went wrong

man...2nd day of CNY n i'm already having things going wrong.
first was i overslept so did everyone in the hse.
then i have to wait for everyone in the house to get ready n go out.
i reached uni really late..sigh.

then... a button on my shirt near my bust line came off.
some more is a new shirt. so embarrassing.. cos we went out for dinner n i hv to be careful of the opening. And to make it even better...the front strap of my heels broke when i stepped out of the restaurant.
sigh... what a day.

alright back to writing..brain freeze..so arghhh..

New office

yeah! finally we moved to KG officially on this wed 21jan09!
i have a new desk n office.
most parts of the building are still under constructions.
din have toilet for the first few days until later part of the week.
was a nuisance..i have to walk to another building to use the toilet.

now my desk is set up n ready to work.
yeah..i really like my new desk.
n also cos there is aircon..now i like going to uni.wahahah..partly lar.. there are other reasons.
tada...here is my new desk.

there are more books on the shelf now.. actually..hehe so imagine...heheh

the phone on the desk is an IP phone.
I can play with the ring tones too..
so i hv diff tones for ext n int calls. so cool
at first nobody knew abt it n all of us just nv pick up our fones
cos we thought is someone's mobile ring tone..hehehe
we are so used to the ringing tone of a typical fone
so when the ring tone is a melody..nobody picks it up.
hehe..
we are slowly getting used to it.
heehh try calling me but don't leave a voice message..i can't access yet.

i suppose i have a nice view out of the window..
i like the black blinds too..nice..it is so nice.. i like where i'm working now. ^^


guess what! we hv welcome gifts too..now i'm even more happy.kekek
we all got.. a thermal mug..love it cos it is what i wanted.

i was the guniea pig n in the end my team mate n i labelled it as rat poison.
it tastes so horrible.

baking

tried baking after a loooong time.
wanted to bake choc chip chunky cookies for kei
turned out to be cake like choc cookies.
felt so lousy.


a few days ago kei told me that his dad will snack at night so it will be good if i can bake some cakes or cookies when they are here.
oook... well..that means i need to practice.
tried baking after dinner last night.
looks pretty ok until the baking


first batch went bleah...
second batch was better..
yumm...taste good.
