Smack ThaT

It’s been sometime as I was at work for 5 days. Yup! Just 5 days. At first, I was reluctant about taking the job so I actually went to the interview in my doggie birks. But being a Japanese company, they don’t really bother. And they didn’t even looked down! Haha! so as I’ve said, being in a big Japanese conglomerate, I had to wear the company’s uniform and safety shoes (even though I was just a temporary staff). We has to do morning exercises, stand up for the company song and even recite the 7 principles of the company. I must say that it was a refreshing experience for me. We also had morning and afternoon breaks that lasted 10 minutes each. Lunch was 42 minutes. Haha! I was wondering how would the employees know what time to get back to work. The answer was pretty old school. There was a bell, just like a recess bell in primary school. The moment it rings, everyone leaves his or her seats. I was pretty surprised at how enthusiastic they can get over breaks, but later I found out from my co-workers that the company discourages you from walking around your seat during working hours. So they eagerly go for breaks to maintain sanity and stretch their legs.

My co-workers are generally very nice people. The older ones are in fact very friendly. On the very first day of work (it was a Friday), one of them asked the other temporary staff and I to randomly pick numbers to buy 4-D that very weekend. Although we picked the right number, they sequence was incorrect. So only 2 of them won lottery (they bought I-bet). The very next working day, everyone got a lunch treat for them and from then on we were dubbed the God of Prosperity whenever they wanted to buy lottery again. Haha! As days went by, Sheng Lian (the other temporary staff) and I got on better with the rest of our co-workers, even some from the other department next to us. Even though they knew that we were there for 5 days, their hospitality was very warm. I wouldn’t say it’s the same from some of the younger ones though. At the end of our stint, they were so sweet that they gave up some farewell gifts. What I really appreciate was a handmade bookmark from Wendy. =D

Very soon, Chinese New Year came by. This is the first time that I’m spending the CNY at my new place so I spent a little more effort in decorating the place (That included Chinatown trips with Cassie). On the second day of CNY, my aunt came over and spoiled my entire festive mood. First of all, she was an hour late. Secondly, every year, she brings her extended family (like her niece and nephews from her side of her family) that I have never seen in my entire life. This year was no exception. Third, she came during lunch on purpose. When she came in, my mom offered her food (that’s manners), so she said ok and told her entourage of people to eat if not they have to go to McDonalds. She didn’t even do it discreetly, but openly. And they wiped out my lunch, leaving my hungry and angry. After that, she still had the cheek to ask everyone whether they were full, loudly! Plus! My mom had to give out 5 red packets compared to her 1. Hello! And she only gave me a $20 when my mom gave $20 in each of the 5 red packets. This aunt of mine has always been like that. She loves taking advantage of people. It’s not as though she’s not well off or anything! She has 3 children and all of them are already working! Her eldest son (my cousin) had recently registered his marriage too! Plus! She’s very critical about everything. When my grandmother was still around, she loved to go over to my youngest uncle place for dinner (my uncle was caring for gram then). If she didn’t like the food, she would criticize it and would demand for better food the next time. I mean, be thankful they had allowed you to eat there with them and you still complain? Sheesh! My late uncle (her husband) was a very nice man. He was a man of few words and very good-natured person. It’s so unfortunate that he isn’t here with us anymore. But that’s not all that irked me from that visit! There was my second cousin too! (I shall blog more about it later for I’m hungry now) Sigh! My family is terrible! And I thank god for friends.

I can't seem to post pictures today! =(

Yay! I got the modem back online! Screw the Starhub people. They never call you back and I had to figure out the problem on my own. Maybe I should change over to mio? The new place is great! It’s really accessible and breezy. It feels so much better having the windows open at night rather than the air conditioning and the fan. (Yup! I love the cold. Haha!) One of the things that I miss is the 10 minutes train rides that separates Cassie and myself. Hehe.

Right, so I am now back at the unemployed stage. Mom and Dad didn’t really like me doing that job. And and! Grrr… there are less coaching now as it’s the inter school season. Haiz. Which means, I have been surviving on no income for two weeks. Actually, it suits me fine as I’m having an eye allergy right now and vision isn’t perfect even with my glasses on.

Prissy! Speak in Cantonese again! =D
