Music Changes the Mood

Whoa! What the hell is wrong with me? The week had been highly unproductive. I haven’t bought ANY of the presents yet, even though I have got some ideas to get for my dear peeps. I went shopping with mummy after open house on Thursday. Gosh! It’s so hard to shop for myself. My broad shoulders are a hindrance. I’ve got to find the right cut so I wouldn’t look so fat. I bought 2 pairs of shoes from hue. I just loved the shoes there. I couldn’t decide whether I should get the low heal white with a bunch of beads or the black to match my new skirt, so I got both. Ooo! I love that shop. And it’s in Scotts Shopping Centre, so there isn’t any crowd. Just perfect. I know mommy got exasperated cos I couldn’t make up my mind for 3 whole hours. But yeah, I know mommy’s worse. Haha!

We also got Ke-Yue’s wedding present. It’s this crystal candleholder. Mom had a hard time deciding whether she should get the dancing couple sculpture or this candleholder. Personally, I prefer the former. However, it is indeed difficult to carry to the church. I got really fascinated at the wrapping of the present. The salesgirl had this very exquisite way of wrapping that she used minimal tape and minimal cutting of the wrapping paper. I am very intrigued by it. I love the wrapper too! But I tell you, it did cost me a bomb!

Ke-Yue's Wedding Present

It’s definitely wedding galore this November. On Friday was Hendry-gor’s wedding. It was the best wedding dinner I’ve attended (in terms of food of course). There was also a spectacular view atop of UOB Plaza on the 62nd floor. Love that place. Every time I go there, I just wish I can stay there and admire the view. Once again, Sichuan Dou Hua Restaurant did not fail me. The standard of the food was maintained even though there was a big group of us. I loved the mango pudding. Not because of the ordinary dessert, but because of the presentation. Dry ice was sprouting out from every individual bowl of pudding and there was even a spectrum of colours in the solution. Elden had dun playing with it. Boy! That kid is growing up so fast. He has also grown more like Wewe-gor. Well, Isabelle is also very like meimei-jie. In fact, Isabelle is pretty much of a spitfire just like meimei-jie when she was younger. Auntie was spilling all the beans of her children especially when they are all married. Somehow, I got pulled in as well. Mom was telling how meimei-jie used to come over to my place and she used to have fun playing with I-can’t-remember what. And Auntie was telling everyone how I used to go over to play with Sha-Sha and Terri. Unfortunately, Terri died a few months back. Poor girl. But she was 12, so it’s natural. It’s kind of sad especially when I witnessed Terri being born and how she was sucking milk from Sha-Sha.

Now, back to Ke-Yue’s wedding. Goodness! I would love to have a wedding like that. It’s just so wonderful. The church was very different. There were helium balloons everwhere. And not just the normal ones mind you; it was pink and light purple heart-shaped ones. Another interesting part of the ceremony was that the pastor who solemnized the wedding was none other then Ke-Yue’s father! Haha! My dad was teasing Rev. Kang after the ceremony. I must say that the ceremony wasn’t just to witness the unification of 2 souls and body. It was also about catching up with some people I haven’t met for ages. People like Mr Jusuf, who was my choir teacher back in the days in primary school. He has seriously aged quite a bit. And not forgetting Mrs Lim, who was my kindergarten principal. I was a terrible kid back then, who cried that I wanted to go home and lie on my very own bed. I'm so in love with the whole wedding ceremony right now. It was a little cloudy, but there was still sun. The weather was cool and there was a live band in the courtyard. The whole church wedding was perfect!

I just came back from dinner at Raffles Hotel. I never knew that the Bar and Billiard Room is such a cool and cozy place to have dinner. It just brings you back to the typical English houses where there is a billiard room. It is no doubt a good place to go. I just love the choice of music that the have there. It made me feel somewhat at ease, especially when the live band came on. But there was someone there with us for dinner, and it was utterly uneasy. I know kimmy will be interested to know what happened.

Gosh! I’m so confused. But I know what’s gonna happen. Nothing

Growing Up

Believe it or not. It's only November the 19th and everyone is preparing for Christmas. I thought of doing my Christmas shopping in December. But every retail shop in this small sunny island is gearing up for Christmas. I can't help but to bring forward my holiday shopping.

It's kinda weird. I remember when I was younger, I used to yearn that I'll grow up really soon, so I can watch movies, sit for my driving test, go drinking... But now, I just wish that I could be a little girl once again.

Holidays are meant to be enjoyed. I haven't been enjoying my holidays for the past few years. When I heard the song 'White Christmas' in a shop earlier, my thought just transported me back to the past. Christmas then was a wonderful time, especially when you get to spend it with your family in Canada, sitting under the Christmas tree exchanging presents, have a cuppa cocoa, share some laughs, play some games, and definitely enjoying the scenery of a white christmas.

It's so different now. Well, I can't really go back there and spend much of my holidays there. Christams is a time for family, and there is a new addition in my family - Ralph. I can't bear to leave him at home while I spent time with my relatives in Cananda, enjoying a white Christmas.

But that's besides the point. It used to be carefree holiday season in the past. One where you can just live by each day, without worrying about tomorrow. It's so different now. everyday, I worry about a whole list of things. Call me a worrywort if you must. I just can't help it. Life is crazy around here. What am i saying? Life is crazy everywhere.

Do You?

Have you ever been criticized constanly by someone who is close to you? You know that person means well, but somehow it kinda hurts inside. You may feel that you are not having the support you would like to have. Whatever you do, you are brought down by your decicions. A simple essay could lead to your grades and the discussion on how you actually managed to get such a good score will come about. Is there a stop to this? Well, I can't answer that question. Not yet, not now.

Are you always not taken seriously for what you say sometimes? Well, i have. I mean, most of the times i don't, but there are times where I'm serious. When I was in primary school, I told them that there was a difference margarine and better, no one believed me. When I was in secondary school, I told them that butter is healthier than margarine, no one believed me as well. Well, now I've got prove to show that I'm right. Read the article I found below:

Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only> because they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine...
Very high in trans fatty acids... Triple risk of coronary heart disease. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) Lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)... Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold...
Lowers quality of breast milk... Decreases immune response... Decreases insulin response.

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC....... And margarine is initially BLACK, but it is DYED YELLOW to look like butter. These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:
purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something) ... It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it... Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Think about it.

So here's to everyone who once disagreed with me on butter and margarine. KISS MY ASS!

Man's Greatest Enemy is Himself

Hey there. I haven't been updating this site for quite a while. In fact, i have also forgotten how to change template. In fact, i don know how to change the templates, it's just that i don't know how to customise the settings like the tag-board and other stuff like the profiles and blah blah blah......

It has been a tough times the past few months. There was drama rehearsals that almost clashed with my school cirriculum and other enrichment programmes. Then, there were the promotional examinations, which i did not really perfoem up to my own expectations.

Over the months, i've made quite a few insightful discoveries. The hurricanes in North America and the quakes in South Asia made me think a lot. Let us start off first with the hurricanes in the US.

Katrina showed that Bush wasn't really a capable leader. I never believed in him before but of course, the presidential elections in the US proved me wrong. I think i'm more of a democrat than a republican, mainly because i don't think Bush is a good leader. He doesn't have tack and the ability to deter tricky situations. The scandle involving the CIA leak further shows that he isn't able to handle situations in a diplomatic manner. Call me evil if you like, I was pretty happy that his popularity level is at its lowest at 35%. This figure is even worse off than former President Clinton's 60% when he was caught in the Monica scandal. Besides showing that Bush deserves to be sacked, it also showed us that we are indeed making the global climate worse. With the increase amount of greenhouse gases being released and it has been causing the depletion of the ozone layer, it is of course, that our climate will be affected. Since 26th December 2004 earthquake and tsunami disasters, freak weathers have been occuring all over the globe.

God bless the people who are affected in the South Asia earthquake. It is very unfortunate that this have to happen, especially when it's starting to get cold. I'm sure some will be suffering from hyperthermia. So far, even Pakistan and India have been appealing for donations, I still feel that not much help is being rendered to these 2 countries. For God's sake, everyone is God's children. How can we just foresake then and leave them to their own devices. I remember in the beginning of the school year, there was an appeal for the tsunami victims. But how come there isn't one now? The tsunami occured when the weather was starting to get a little warmer, but the people in Pakistan and India will be experiencing winter very soon. They will need a lot of supplies like blankets, jackets, hot stuff to keep them warm. Medicines and proper housing is also essential to keep them safe and warm. I hear that they are still expericing severe aftershocks like one which was 6 on the richter scale on Sunday. We must pool our resources and help them. We are living in a safe environment and we must share whatever we have with others. Some may ask me that we may be suffering from charity fatigue, especially after the NKF saga. Nonsense! We are talking about thousands of lives here. Can money bring these people back to life? Definitely no! Hell no!

I was having this conversation with coach last week, and his words enlightened me. It is indeed true that man's greatest enemy is himself. I used to think otherwise. Let's use a simple analogy. Who kills?: the gun or man. The answer will have to be man. Man pulls the trigger and the gun doesn't go off by itself (unless of course it is mulfunctioning). People are dying everyday and it's all cause of our greediness, our arrogance and our lack of tolerance. I also found another point of his pretty interesting. He asked me if we can avoid war. My answer was yes. I mean, all we need to do is to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and calm manner, and all will be well. But no. We can't avoid war. Ok. Let's examine this closely. Technology is constantly advancing. New and better weapons are being produced. But these weapons will definitely have to be tested out. And where to they test it? The battlefield. I'm beginning to think that there is a political agenda behind war. Countries just want to test out their new weapons and so they 'create' war so that they can further improve on their weapon technology. It may even be a trap for their rivals to reveal their weapon technology as well.

I was also glad to have found someone who didn't think that the word 'die' is taboo. Since i was young, whenever i say the word 'die' or 'death', frowns will be directed at me. However, we do not know when we are going to die. It is all fated. You could even pass on if you were just to step one step out of your house. I'm currently pretty irritated when my family/friends ask about a close friend of mine and what i say that this person is 'dead' if i don't get a reply for days, they will just ask me to shut up or give me a look of terror. Get a life man! Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I may not even be there to see the sunrise! We have to live our lives to the fullest and just go for it. Don't hold back (unless you are causing hurt to someone like a jihad or two-timing. Absolutely no no!).

Well, it took me 3 days to get this entry done. Phew! I hope it wasn't too boring. I also hoped that i have not made any typing errors, given the speed that i was typing. :)
