Another Trip to Powell

I didnt get as many landscape or still life pictures as I thought I would on our last trip to Lake Powell. I got tons of action shot duds, but of course thats not what I want. Here is some of what I did get.

Salt Lake City and it's More Interesting Stuff - This is What I Call "Tourist Photography"

I hardly ever go to Salt Lake City, but when I do, I usually have a good time. I rented a Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye lens from Allen's Camera for this occasion. Allen's rental service was great, they didn't seem to mind that me, a 14 year-old kid was using it, and they didn't charge a deposit (I wonder if they charge for the $2000 70-200mm VR II f/2.8...). But anyways, props for them! Im not particularly proud of any of these shots, but it is all I have for now. In SLC we simply walked around and went to all the obvious attractions: the wonderfully elegant and impressive LDS Conference Center, beautiful Temple Square, and the (insert praise here) Capitol Building.

The fisheye captures almost a full 180 degree view, as demonstrated here. Very fun.

The shadows here were interesting... No? Well I thought so.

The flower seen here was actually only about 2mm from the lens.

For anyone who didn't know, this is 3 stories above Salt Lake on top of the conference center. Thats right, not on ground level. This garden represents what Utah used to look like before the hand of modern mankind.

This place is absolutely huge, in a magnificent sort of way.

The Zoo

Went to the zoo this afternoon... It was harder than I thought it would be to get any sort of decent shot of an animal.

In and Around the Warehouse

Theres always pictures to be taken.. No matter where you are. Here are some images straight off my camera unedited. Partially because it shows true mastery of the photographing subjects, but more because I'm too lazy to edit them.

West Desert... A Whole Lot of Nothing.

Last weekend for a scouts outing we went to the west desert, which is just a whole lot of sage brush, shootin' guns, old rusty shot up stuff, and more shooting. But for this camping trip I decided to see what there was to shoot with my camera rather than a gun.

After seeing another photographers blog/webpage(wenderful365.blogspot.com), it encouraged me to post more pictures instead of meticulously sorting through the thousands of pictures that I took or have taken, but just post a bit of what I got for the time being. I'm slowly warming up to less perfection, and more fun. Although I still expect more clean and artistic photos in more serious posts, here is an attempt at a bit more fun.

Very, very many spent shotgun shells. We had to clean them up as a service project later.

Someone was smart enough to shoot at a propane tank.

7.62 x 39mm rounds. Very fun to shoot.

Still not very many photos... I'll work on posting more content in the future.

Photographing a Play

Just this last week, my neighbor was preforming in a play and I decided that it would be a good opportunity to expand my horizons and photograph a play. All these photos were taken at 200mm f/3.5 ISO 1600 1/200 sec with an old Vivitar manual focus lens. Focusing was immensely difficult due to the adjustments of just millimeters that must be done with such a small depth of field. Here are a few pictures, straight off the camera.
