3D art II- more Metalsmithing
In 3D Art II students create a second metals project. I am SO proud of these students. They had great designs and great craft. I plan to send several of these pieces to art shows later in the year.
3D art I- metalsmiths!
I went to KU.... starting out I was studying to be a science teacher... SCIENCE. Wow. I was inspired by a really great science teacher in high school. After a semester, it was clear my passion was still in art (something I had talked about teaching as well). When I started out, I was stuck in design and drawing... paying my dues, learning the basics. When I started a basic metals class- I was in love! I choose metal as an emphasis for my art education major and then later added it as a second major. I couldn't get enough. I still love to make jewelry (feel free to check out my etsy store!) and more than that I love to teach others to make jewelry! These are projects we've spent most of the 9 weeks on. Students learned to saw, file, sand, solder, set stones, and polish. Whew.

Collage Project- Art Explorations
Students created these works near the end of the 9 weeks. Each design has an important meaning to the artist. Students couldn't just cut out images from magazines, they had to create images using textures and colors from the found images. Now we have moved on to a print and clay project. See these works and more in the halls of RVHS!

Field Trip
Students visited the brand new Kaw Valley State Park to do some serious hiking (well serious if you are 7+ months pregnant!).
We hiked about 30 minutes and ended up in a section where the trail opened up a bit. Students did drawings and paintings of the plant life that surrounded them at that location. After hiking back to the bus, we headed to the library to see the Printed Image III show currently on display. This is a national show that Topeka does a great job organizing. Students viewed dozens of prints and had a chance to do their own mono print. We ate a delicious lunch at the Millennium Cafe and then headed to Warehouse 414. At the Warehouse we saw work by Geoff Benzing and made our own art by drawing the random and wonderful objects the store contains.
This was a full and productive day for the 27 art students that joined me! Check out the student's art in the halls of Royal Valley High!
