the past few weeks: friends, food, films--

tanja, couchsurfer from hamburg! this lovely surfer stayed for five days and saw more of new york and brooklyn on foot that i have in four years:

things are pretty sunny

Rachel's mom sent her half a wheel of manchego cheese so we decided to have a manchego and sangria party at my place on Sunday. It was supposed to be a small affair but there ended up being over 20 of us and we made about eight pitchers of sangria. And then someone brought a vodka watermelon and it was all over.

Also! We had two French couchsurfers, Thibault and Marine, staying with us for the past few nights. Last night they made me and Whitney, another friend who is crashing for awhile, a Lyonaise salad and an apple crumble. YUM.

In other news, yesterday the KOGI Korean Taco Truck from L.A. made a guest appearance at the Dessert Truck in mid-town, and Veronica hooked Duke and I up with some amazing Kimchi Quesadillas. And tomorrow the summer of couchsurfers continues with a girl from Hamburg who will be staying with us for a few days. This week I'm also hoping to meet up with a few American couchsurfers whom I haven't had space to host am excited to hang out with.

things that are easy to do when you don't have a full time job.

easily the most involved sandwich i've ever made. turkey bacon, lettuce, tomato, paprika spiced swordfish, and an avocado-lime spread.

the best summer weekend lunch. still seeking a good baguette in greenpoint.

things that are hard to do: sleep.

unemployed, yes, but i've been waking up at around 7 or 8am every morning thanks to: two big windows facing the sun, pretty but impractical sun-letting-through curtains, thin window panes, a 7:30am saturday garbage truck, a bumpin' club two doors down, friendly neighbors who like to have loud conversations on the corner across the street at 6:30am on a sunday, and a 24-hour chiming church bell on the next block.

i'm not complaining--i have a coffee maker and a breakfast nook to wake up to.

Of course, there's also that whole post-graduation job hunting business, but it's not as exciting or visually pleasing to talk about. Suffice it to say that the search is going pretty well, given the circumstances. In the meantime, I'm still freelance proofreading those romances, mysteries, and westerns. Also, hopefully this week I will start freelance reporting and shooting for the Greenpoint Gazette! If you know of any other temporary gigs, let me know.

For now, summer in Greenpoint is pretty swell.
