Christmas Day 2012

Christmas morning didn't go as we had planned this year.   Delma and I were up all night because she was so sick.  At about 8:00 am everyone was still sleeping so I went to put the cinnamon rolls in the oven and realized I bought the wrong ones.  They weren't the ones you can cook straight from the freezer so they were supposed to sit out and thaw for a few hours.  arggghh!!

When everyone woke up around 8:30 we weren't really in the mood for presents.  Delma was so miserable but was finally able to start keeping a little bit of liquids down.  Jason made oatmeal for breakfast, then after breakfast we waited a little while for Delma to feel better before opening any presnets.  At about 10:00 we brought all the stockings and everything in from the living room into he family room where she was laying down and let everyone look in their stockings.  I was really proud of my kids, they were more concerned for Delma than they were about not having the perfect Christmas and seeing what their presents were right away.  :)

Kiara got Little Petshop from Santa, just what she asked for.

Brennen got a super awesome nerf gun, he loves having nerf wars.
Delma got a two wheel scooter!  She had decided her 3 wheel scooter is too babyish and she was ready to move on.
TJ got a cute cuddly duck.

In their stockings their was also candy, a new book and a few other little things.

Brennen gave Kiara a Venus fly trap plant.  She doesn't look excited in this picture, but is really excited to try it out this summer.
Brennen got Delma a Merida doll, it made her smile.

Kiara got Delma a "daddy boingy"  She had the mom and baby that she got at the zoo the last two times we went.  She has really been wanting the daddy to complete her family.  I helped Kiara find one online to get for her.  They make a little boing sound when you press their middle.
The boingy family with their new daddy
Delma likes to hang her boingy family above her bed in the bunk beds, so they hang over her head. She is so creative!

Maggie was happy with her collection of new squeaky toys

The kids all picked out new ties for Jason

Kiara got an easy back oven.  I've been waiting for this day since I found I was pregnant with a  girl 9 yrs ago :)
Delma got the pink laptop she was hoping for

Brennen thought we were done when we gave him his last present that told him to go look in the shed
he got the snowboard he really wanted.  He had asked for one, then looked it up to see how much they are and told us he didn't realize how much they are (several hundred dollars new) and that he knew it was too much and was ok with not getting one.

We were able to find a used one at a great deal and got him snowboarding boots to go with it, he was very surprised!
here is Delma  trying to look happy with all her new stuff

Grandma carol came out to visit us with Grandpa and Grandma Workman

Grandma Sheree surprised Kiara with a barbie car!  Grandma had taken the kids shopping a few days before Christmas to pick out their presents (which was a ton of fun) and Kiara wasn't' expecting anything else

TJ found the perfect spot to play with his new basketball hoop
Grandma and Grandpa Robison came to visit and bring the kids their gifts,  Brennen was thrilled to get an air soft gun.  TJ had a lot of fun playing with grandpa.

Brennen got a new fish tank with several fish from grandma Sheree, he was really excited about getting his own  fish and has been looking forward to it for several months.
We spent the rest of the day just relaxing and playing with new toys.  Jason and the kids got me a hammock for camping.  Can't wait to try it out.

The next morning Jason went to the grocery store for a few things and they had this giant pink unicorn that Delma has been eyeing for a while on Clearance at 70% off.  Jason got it for her to cheer her up.

Delma and her new unicorn
Later that week Kiara got sick only luckily she only threw up once and was feeling better by the next day.  A few days later TJ got sick, he had a fever for several days.  Delma didn't end up eating anything in her stocking or playing with her new toys until Saturday (Christmas was on Tuesday).
Me snuggling with TJ when he didn't feel good
I was glad it was a pretty lazy week with no school and no work so we could hang around and let everyone rest and get better.  We didn't get to do a lot of the fun things we had planned but that's ok.  It still turned out to be a great Christmas and the kids were happy.

Christmas Eve

For Christmas Eve we had a big family party planned with my side of the family. We were all really looking forward to it. We have dinner and exchange cousin gifts, do a white elephant game and a few people bring silly stories or Christmas poems to share. This year we decided to have the party at a church building since there are so many of us now. We got there at about 5:00 pm. We were only there about 10 minutes when Delma asked me to take her to the bathroom. I took her in there and she threw up. I wasn't sure what was wrong but wanted to keep her away from everyone so someone suggested we scoot the couch into the gym and let her rest there.

She started getting sick again so I went into the mother's lounge with her in the bathroom and we sat in there for the rest of the party.  Poor girl could not stop throwing up.  The party was in West Valley or I would have just taken her home.  They used a microphone in the gym for all the activities so Delma and I were able to turn on the speaker in the mother's lounge and listen in.

My sister Erica wrote this silly poem with silly things that people have done over the past year.  It was really cute.  Also, Delma was going to recite her snowball poem but had me do it for her instead.  Poor girl was miserable.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS 2012

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the family,
All the grown ups are sleeping, well not really.

The children are not nestled all sung in their bed,
They are up running about making a mess instead.

While grandpa is playing Heroes on his Ipod,
Grandma was so lovingly tucking in tripod.

Kiara is wide awake, crawling all around,
What puppy is she this time a lab or a hound?

Shannon is very busy but not happy at all,
She is standing in one place holding up her wall.

Kyler is in his bedroom his frustration increases,
He tries over and over to say Reeses Pieces.

Natalie is happy her day can not get better,
From a boy at church she got her first love letter.

Brennen walks through the door he’s done with his check-up,
The dentist is not happy again Brennen threw up.

And Keaton feels he has something to prove,
He's been practicing to master his new dance move.

Porter’s looking through his work from kindergarten,
He is reminiscing about how old he has gotten.

Being detectives is Steven and Yu-Hsaun’s new skill,
They are doing all they can to stop a puppy mill.

Tevin's in the TV room, the controller he clicks,
He just watched his seventh movie on Netflix.

If your doors keep closing and lights are off and on,
Look around and you will be sure to find Zaxton.

Travis is in the kitchen cooking at a slow pace,
Hoping his chili will win, and not come in second place.

Nolan is in the kitchen too, baking up a storm,
He's made so many goodies he can't keep them all warm.

TJ is doing summersaults down the hall,
He made it all the way without hitting the wall.

Kanessa is singing a song to her Ma and Pa,
All of them ending with a hehe haha, ha.

Addie is crawling around on her tippy toes,
She smiles and laughs and crinkles her nose.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
We ran to the door to see what was the matter.

And what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But Jan on a sled being chased by a deer.

Becky is outside with her little baby bump,
With her shovel in hand she pulls up a tree stump.

Erica is in the garage, even though it is late,
Ryan can't open the door, it's stuck on a license plate.

Jason returns from the lake, with his catch in hand,
Delma is with him, her fish is bigger and grand.

The big man is coming, the kids race to their beds,
They are all asleep before they laid down our heads.

He was here and he left in the blink of an eye,
The adults headed for bed with a yawn and a sigh.

But we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

After the party we went home, it was pretty late so we got the kids ready for bed.  Delma was still really sick.  We didn't even end up giving the kids their new pj's before bed and I had to go get Kiara out of bed to leave out cookies for Santa because we forgot.  We were up with Delma until about 1:30 am when she was finally able to fall asleep.  She came into my room at about 3:00 am and said "mom, I'm really thirsty"  I got out of bed and went to the door where she was standing and before I could get there she fainted and fell right into the wall.  Scared me half to death!   After that I took her downstairs and we hung out on the couch for the rest of the night, not sleeping at all.  She was dehydrated and miserable, I couldn't  get her to keep anything down.  By morning I was starting to worry that we would need to take her to the emergency room.  Jason suggested we try warm chicken broth and it worked!  Yeah for dads! She hated it but was able to keep it down and after that was able to slowly start drinking water and Gatorade.  Christmas morning at our house didn't go how it usually does, but that's ok because Delma is ok.

Lights and the Elf

This year we put the lights out on our new house a little different.  Since our house is a two story we just put the lights up around the porch.  I think it turned out pretty good!

My Holiday Hippo and penguin.
Our elf Dobby TwinkleStar came back again this year to keep an eye on the kids during the month of December.  Here are a few of the silly places that he hid.  TJ loved finding the elf!  Each morning he would run to the place the elf was the day before and say "elf gone" then run around the house trying to find him.  He thought it was so funny when he found him in the candy jar.  If you ask him about the elf today he would still say "elf, candy" and giggle.  Such a fun tradition.  :)

The elf took a nap in the kleenex box.

Sneaky elf!

Santa at the Up House

Santa paid a visit to the Up House in Herriman.  We took the kids to see him, it was pretty cold outside but luckily we didn't have to stay in line very long.  TJ was very excited and pointed at him and said "santa, santa" while we were waiting in line.  He has been talking about him all month, since we got out our Christmas decorations and books. We were very curious to see what he would do once he actually got close to him.  I don't have a picture of Brennen he refused to play along. :)

In line in front of the Up House.

Delma and Santa.

Kiara and Santa.

He was ok until we backed away to take a picture.  But once we got to the car he was happily talking about how Santa gave him candy.  Silly guy!

Freezing Fishing

My family loves fishing so much they even go during the winter.  I think it's a little crazy!  Even TJ will go in the garage and get his pole and he is not a happy boy until daddy takes him to the pond even when it's freezing.

These pictures are from a trip Jason and Brennen took to the Provo River.

Delma's Preschool Program

Delma's preschool class had a little Christmas program for the parents. It was so cute. I forgot my camera so I took this picture with my phone and it didn't turn out that great. Their teacher made them really cute scarfs for Christmas.  We are so happy that Delma is doing so well at preschool, learning a lot and making new friends.

Here is a little poem that Delma memorized for the program

SNOWBALL by Shel Silverstein

I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.

I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.

Then last night it ran away,
But first -- it went the bed.

Deer on the Porch

Kiara and I spotted a bunch of deer hanging out at our neighbors house in the middle of the afternoon. They went right up to the porch, it's so fun to have these animals around.  I probably won't say that once we get our strawberry patch planted in our front yard!

Sledding Fun

The kids were so excited that we finally got some snow!  Delma helped Jason shovel the snow while Brennen and Kiara were at school.  Since it was Friday it was a short day at school so when they got home we woke up TJ from his nap a little early and set off to the park down the street to go sledding.

Delma helping daddy shovel.
We built a snowman before we went sledding, the snow wasn't staying together very well so it turned out kind of weird.

TJ wearing his coat and snow clothes for the first time  (check out Delma taking a big bite of snow in the background)
I put TJ in his sled and pulled him to the park, he stayed put the entire time there and back.

Kiara pulling Delma to the park

Maggie came too.

Getting ready to go down.

He wasn't happy at first but eventually decided he would try it out.

Brennen took off with his friends so we didn't see much of him.

best way to get back up the hill!

Delma didn't like going by herself, I certainly didn't mind going with her!

Mommy and TJ.

Eventually he decided he wanted to go by himself, such a brave little guy.

Daddy and Kiara.

We had sooo much fun!  While we were sledding a deer being chased by a dog ran down the hill and ran around all the people for a little bit, Maggie joined in and started chasing the dog chasing the deer!  I was so worried the dog would catch that deer right in front of all those kids.  Eventually the deer ran back up the hill (almost running right into Kiara) and ran away.  It was crazy!  Unfortunately I had just put the camera back in my pocket and put my gloves back on so I couldn't get it out to take a video in time.  Fun memories!
