At the end of July, Liam and I joined my mom and aunt Nancy on a trip to the Channel Islands. I was the official driver, and Liam was there to look after us all. It was a really great trip. I knew very little about the Channel Islands except that it is where the book Island of the Blue Dolphins takes place. Now I would love to go back and spend more time.
We took a boat to the island, and had about 4 hours on the island. My Mom, Liam and I went hiking and then had a little bit of time to just hang out on the beach. Nancy stayed behind and explored the beach.
On our way to the island the boat took us around the entire island. We went inside the pained cave which is a large cave that is colorful because of the mineral deposits. It was really cool and I would like to go back some day to kayak in the cave.
On the boat ride we saw so much sea life. We saw a feeding circle where we saw dolphins, seals, birds and even some whales. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
We spent some time along the coast in Ventura exploring the area. We went to the beach and hiked for a little bit.
We stopped at a mission that had a beautiful rose garden.
They have a visitor center that we checked out.
This was the view from our hotel room. It was so beautiful.
On our way to California we stopped at a ghost town in Nevada. It was kind of cool and a good break.
We also stopped Overton Nevada and spent the night.
We got a glimpse of Lake Mead.
We stopped at Valley of Fire State Park, but didn't do much because it was over 105 degrees.
The main reason we stayed in Overton was because Nancy wanted to stop at the Lost City Museum. It was cool. It talk about the Native American City that was found nearby.
The trip was a lot of fun.
