Now that I have been home for a week I figure it is about time I blog about our trip to Nauvoo. We (mom, dad, Dave, Rob, and I) left Sunday after church and made our first stop in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The first day of driving wasn't too bad but it was only 6-7 hours from home. On Monday we drove to Des Moines, Iowa- about 9 hours that day! Not too bad I guess- not a whole lot to see through Nebraska but it was nice to break up the driving. Tuesday we only had about 3 hours or so until we arrived in Nauvoo
We arrived in Nauvoo around 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon. We put our stuff in a cabin and went to grab some lunch and look around a little. We went back to camp and hung out with our family. There were about 80 people there. It was so fun to see everyone. At least 1 person was there from all 8 families. The place we stayed had a lodge with a huge kitchen and eating area and a lot of room upstairs to play games. It was great. The cabins we slept in were very rustic and needed some good cleaning and fixing up but overall the place was awesome for a family reunion. As usual with Menssen reunions each family is responsible for providing one meal and we eat 3 meals together every day. There is a ton of food but it is fun to be able to talk and catch up.
Wednesday and Thursday we spent quite a bit of time exploring Nauvoo. We took a wagon ride tour through Old Nauvoo, walked around to the different houses/shops, saw the pageant, went to Carthage, and even got to attend a session in the Nauvoo temple. It was really fun! I had been there before but it was fun to be there again with Rob and my family. It was an awesome reunion.
We left Friday morning to make the long drive back to Utah. We pretty much drove all day Friday and Saturday. We spent the night in Gothenberg, Nebraska. It was a long drive but worth it! Here are some pictures from the trip!
