Rain Check Please!
My baby girl got the flu, or at least something like it. Throwing-up, fever, dehydration, stomach cramping. It killed me seeing her in so much pain. It started on Thursday night, when she threw-up while eating dinner. The look on her face was priceless..."what the heck just happened". I was hoping it was a fluke, but continued to watch her. It was only the beginning! Next thing I know I'm cleaning off the couch & Roger is running her a bath.(thank goodness for leather, but not something a pregnant lady wants to be doing)
For the next couple days, I'm watching her temperature & making sure she is getting enough fluids. Lucky for us the throwing-up slowed down. It usually only happened at night when she was hungry & brave enough to eat.
By Saturday I thought we were in the clear, she was back to her happy self. (I had missed that sweet personality so much!) We went to my nephews birthday party & she had a great time playing with her cousins. She still wasn't too interested in eating, but didn't mind the Capri Sun her cousin gave her. From there it went down hill again. You could tell she wasn't comfortable. Her tummy was hard as a rock & she whined the whole way home. She couldn't even fall asleep, she was that miserable. On Saturday at 4:30pm I made the decision to take her to Urgent Care, hoping to avoid the ER. I was afraid she had a Urinary Tract Infection, because she hadn't had a wet diaper for a few days. Come to find out the UC Dr.didn't have what they needed to check a toddler for something like that, so she sent us to the ER think that it was a UTI.
Off to the ER we went.We didn't even have to wait, I've never had that happen.
Thank you HOAG
The ER Dr. checked her tummy. Pushing on it & I'm sure trying to feel everything inside. The Dr. said that if it was a UTI she would of been screaming during the exam, & her fever would only be getting worse. She was borderline dehydrated & constipated. Phew, I can handle that. He told me not to worry so much about solid food, but make sure to offer her lots of fluids. For the next few days I probably had 6 sippy cups in the fridge filled with everything from Pedialite/Applejuice to plain water. Her favorite was "daddy's blue juice" aka gatorade.
I think it was Monday morning, she woke up and asked for cereal & milk. So we went down and had cereal & milk while watching Elmo and Abby. Yeah, she wants food! I was so excited & ready to have a semi normal day. After eating you could see pure exhaustion on her face. The next thing I know she is laying down on the couch, so I took her back up stairs to cuddle in our bed. I think she was awake for maybe 4 hours total that day.
