Road Home Service
The YM and YW were excited to go to the Road Home on Tuesday, May 19th.
Many ward members donated items and money to the shelter. The items were left out on peoples porches and the YM & YW picked them up. After we had all driven downtown to the homeless shelter and dropped the items off, we then headed over to the kitchen area. Normally the individuals and families living there are on their own for food everyday, however we were able to make the meal and feed them.
It was very touching to see small families in clothing that didn't fit and newborn born babies and small children with hardly any worldly goods. It really made us all appreciate our blessings, to be standing there in our everyday clothes and to have a home to live in. We are so fortunate. ~Valesca

Congratulations Brittny Millington!
After competing for 3 years, she has earned 1st place at the Utah State level of National History Day Contest for her performance of "Ginger Rogers: More than a Dance Partner". She will be competing at the national competition in Maryland this June.
The History Day Contest does for history what science fairs do for science. Students compete by researching, writing process papers, and bibliographies, then presenting their studies through displays, documentaries, websites, papers or performances. Brittny loves all things to do with costumes, performing, and historical reenactment, so this has been a great opportunity to improve her research skills and get to compete as well.
Good luck at the national contest and getting to tour Washington, D.C. this June!

Noah's TV Commercial
Several months ago, Noah was asked to be in a television commercial for his credit union. They chose him because since he was one year old he has been coming in each month to put money in his savings account. Of course he was very excited to do this. So, one snowy day in March he missed a morning of school to go the the television studio and participate. His commercial is part of a series of about 6 commercials by Utah Central Credit Union. Right now it is being shown at random times on different channels- so keep your eyes open. His commercial is also being shown at the District, Gateway and Jordan Commons movie theatres before the movies begin. It is possible that you may also see him on billboards or print material from the Credit Union.
FYI- If you want your kids to have a good experience learning how to save and manage money, you may want to check out all of the great programs this credit union offers. You can contact Ann Throckmorton to find out about getting paid for grades, prizes, and FREE money for kids 13 and over.

Trust in the Lord-Stake RS Night
Thursday May 7th our new Stake Relief Society Presidency wanted to get to the know the sisters in the stake better, and had a Relief Society Conference.
The theme was taken from Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
The dinner was wonderful and well attended. We then moved into the chapel and listened to Jami Palmer Brinton, a former Miss Utah and cancer survivor share her experiences.
It was a wonderful uplifting evening...thanks to our new Stake Relief Society Presidency!

Father & Sons-May 15th
Father and sons has been held in the bowery behind the church the past few years. This is great for the dads with young boys as they can run them home for the night and be back in a few minutes.
The main objective is to have as much fun as possible...it looks like the night was a success from the pictures!

Race for the Cure
Saturday May 9th was the annual Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" walk or run. This year more than 18,000 people participated. It was an absolutely gorgeous spring day.
A number of us met at Camie's for an early breakfast before leaving for the Gateway. For a number of the Young Women it was the first time they walked. They LOVED the scarves at the Ford booth and wore them on sunday to church as a badge of honor for being a part of the race.
We also had several moms with their kids...some walked and some were pushed in strollers. Crossing the finish line was the best feeling. We hope more join us next year!

Rachelle Won!
This year is the big 150th celebration of South Jordan becoming a city and Rachelle Harrison won the Miss Jordan Pageant! This entitles Rachelle to $2,500 in scholarship money.
There were 9 girls who entered the pageant. The girls started of the evening with a country & western dance number. Then came the dreaded "fitness" section of the evening. I'm sure there were huge sighs of relief once that part was finished. We then enjoyed the talent section of the program and then the other dreaded section "The Question" portion before the evening ended with the evening gown competition.
All of the girls showed a lot of poise, holding hands before the winner was announced. CONGRATULATIONS to Rachelle. We look forward to seeing her in this years Pioneer Day Parade and then in the Miss Utah Competition in June 2010!

And the Academy Goes To...
The youth in our ward are very talented. Did you know there are fairies, dolls, and a wolf in your midst?
The Millington's have introduced live theater to our neighborhood. Lara is the "Fix-it" woman and sewed all the costumes that Brittny designed. This of course makes her the perfect person to fix them when something falls off~like fairy wings for example. Not only did Brittny design the costumes, but she is also in the sound crew. In the fall her winning play "The Crown of Lomiria" will be performed. The talent doesn't end there. Amber, Rebecca & Amanda are also in both plays.
The fairies in The Last Star definitely steal the show...the costumes are cute and so are Savannah, Amanda, Abigail, Eleanor & Elizabeth.
Katie Hilton definitely has dancing skills and these are shown off in the Wonder Warrior.
Eli Davis is the lone Wolf cub and gave a fine performance on his first acting job.
The play is on again from Thursday May 7th-Saturday May 9th at the Sugar Factory Playhouse. Don't Miss Out!
