For our weekend escape we decided to chase the amazing fall colors up to Northern Michigan.
We were definitely not disappointed. The whole state looked like it was on fire as we ambled through the back country roads.
We stayed at a little cabin in the middle of the woods, and it was so incredibly secluded and idyllic.
Our cute cabin on the inside.
Oh, how I loved this stove.
Sophia was STOKED to be camping again- she seriously loves it.
It's adorable.
Lots of fires in our future.
We got a quick hike in through the forrest before it started getting dark.
We found lots of animal trails and some hunting stoops on the way.
Rick, the navigator, guiding our way through the forrest.
What an amazing sunset.
Little miss is in LOVE with her headlamp.
And she was SO excited to sleep in her cool bunkbed.
Thank goodness for this amazing little stove that kept us so toasty in the 20 degree weather.
We knew it was cold going to bed, but...
...the next morning we woke up to this!
Snow!
Sophia immediately ran out and started making snow balls.
And Rick got a blazing fire going that we ate our hot breakfast of oatmeal and hot cocoa around.
It was deliciously cozy to sit in the soft quiet of a fresh snow and huddle around a daytime fire.
Snuggling in our hammock.
After packing up from the morning we did some hiking. The colors and sky after the fresh snow were pristine.
Next we hiked out to Lake Huron.
The pictures really don't do justice to vibrant colors of the fall leaves next to the aquamarine of the lake. It was cold and fierce in it's beauty.
I've kind of come to love this photo of Sophia exploring along the shore.
We whipped out our backpacking stove and made some hot cocoa while we enjoyed the quiet view along the lake shore.
This was just heavenly.
These types of weekends make me feel so renewed and happy.
Thank goodness for the amazing world we live in.
