Rock Band FEST 2009!!!
On New Year's Eve, we invited some of our favorite people over to our house to play games, eat dinner, have some snacks and a really fun time. We played games all night long and had so much fun together.....stopping only for a few minutes to turn on the T.V. to watch the New Year roll in. We then had our New Year's kisses and some Martinelli's. Then we continued to play games for two more hours.....we had so much fun!!!

Who Started This Christmas Stuff?
She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season time of the year -- overwhelming pressure to go to every party and every housewarming, taste all the holiday food and treats, get that perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, make sure we don't forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.
Finally the elevator doors opened, and there was already a crowd in the car. She pushed her way into the car and dragged her two kids and all the bags of stuff in with her. When the doors closed, she couldn't take it anymore and she stated, "Whoever started this whole Christmas thing should be found, strung up, and shot.."
From the back of the car, everyone heard a quiet, calm voice respond, "Don't worry, we already crucified Him."
For the rest of the trip down in the elevator, it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. This year, don't forget to keep "the One who started this whole Christmas thing" in your every thought, deed, and words. If we all did it, just think of how different this whole world would be.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

The 2008 Year in Review
As you may know, we moved to the Alpine/Highland area last November 2007, moving into our new home we had built. However, we still had not sold our old home of 12 years in West Jordan so our year started off pretty gloomy since the housing market plummeted and we were stuck with 2 mortgages for 5 months, the upkeep of 2 homes, shoveling snow at 2 homes, etc. It became pretty draining on us because they weren't exactly close to each other either, and with the gas prices....JEESE!!! Our home in West Jordan didn't sell until the end of March at which time we thanked the Lord for such a blessing in our lives!!!! Especially since we sold our old home just before the market REALLY plummeted, and still got a pretty good price for it!!! YEAH US!!! We really had a lot of good memories in that house......
Madelyn turned 8 years old this year (I know, I know.....she's my baby) and was baptized on February 2, 2008 by her father. It was a very happy day but also a very somber day as it was also the day of President Hinckley's funeral. Also, my Uncle Gale passed away just the day before......so our hearts were very full that day. We had a lot of family come from all over just to support Maddie. We were still pretty new to our ward and didn't know hardly anyone, but the day went off like clockwork and everything turned out beautifully. And, we are very proud of Madelyn and her choice.
We also had a winter like we have NEVER had before (even though we have grown up in Utah), and for our first winter in Highland, it sure did raise havoc upon us. We got snowed in with all of the storms and wind drifts.....it truly was UNREAL!!! The day before Valentine's Day was by far the worst storm we had ever been in. Richard worked from home that day, thankfully, and got the kids to and from school. Becky, however, was not that lucky.......I had to go into work that day, and stopped at the store after work to pick up some last minute Valentine's Day treats. When I left work, the storm had already started to rage, but I still stopped at the store nonetheless. By the time I tried to climb the hills into American Fork and Highland, my car was sliding down the hills sideways, and I had already witnessed several accidents. A man got out of his suburban and physically pushed my car up the hill by hand (THANK YOU, kind stranger....hehehe). I got up that hill and immediately called Richard to come and pick me up in the Expedition. He took quite a while to come as there were so many cars stuck all over the roads, both coming and going back home. We had to leave the car in a church parking lot until the next day, when we could dig out and get it home. The roads had froze so bad that they had to close several roads, as you may have seen on the NATIONAL NEWS!!! What normally takes 30 minutes to get home, took 3 hours to get home for me, and it took my sister Debbie 5 hours!!!
My mom invites all of her grandchildren over for an Easter Egg Hunt every year, this year was no different even though Easter came VERY early in the year...the earliest ever in fact. And even though most of the kids are now teenagers, they still like to go to grandma's house for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt, then home to color eggs afterwards.
Since we have had A LOT of stress in our life the past couple years with health problems, deaths in the family, building a house, moving, STILL dealing with the problems of building a house, etc.....we decided that once our old house sold, we would take a couple of family vacations. Our first chance was Spring Break, and we took it and ran. We decided to go "Camping" and four-wheeling to a ranch resort called Zion Ponderosa. It is near Zion National Park. We decided that once we got there, it was really the way that the rich people camp....hehehe. You would need to be rich in order to do everything there was to do. We had our own little private cabin with a bedroom and bathroom and a little kitchen and eating area. They had every thing you could imagine there to do like zip-line, rock climbing wall, tennis, volleyball, basketball, pool, ping-pong, two tiered swimming pool and hot tub....it was amazing!!! We had a ball just at the resort itself.
While we were staying at Zion Ponderosa, we also took a couple of days to tour and hike Zion National Park. We did several of the hikes as a family, and all of us made it through them all. The one that we were especially proud of was the hike to the top of Angel's Landing. We wanted to see what it was like to see this particular hike in the daytime. (Rich and I and several other college friends had one crazy experience on Labor Day Weekend 1991, where we got caught on top of Angel's Landing at night and had to hike down the sheer cliffs and switchbacks with no light and all alone, it was really scary). We had not been back to Angel's Landing since that hike. So it was really a neat hike for us to actually see all the beauty that we missed.
In May, we had a couple of more deaths in the family. Richard's cousin was found dead in the back of his car in downtown SLC, foul play was suspected but nothing has come of that, that we are aware of. Also, 3 days after that, Richard's Grandmother died. Becky being the family planner, got to plan it all, I know....LUCKY ME!!! So within a week's time, we had 2 funerals to plan and go to, all around Memorial Day too.
June brought on even more. We had two major head wounds (with lots of blood) happen while the kids were playing outside....NOT FUN!!! Also, my mom, who is 72 years old mind you, decided to climb a ladder and trim the apple tree, too stubborn to ask for help, and fell and broke her ankle severely and had to have major surgery on her ankle with several plates, nuts & bolts put in. With my dad's health problems, he wasn't much help. So my siblings and I took turns spending time taking care of both of my parents for months. We were there night and day doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, yard work - We did it all!!! Good thing that my mom is getting back to normal now, and hopefully has learned her lesson.
Also in June, Rich and I decided to take the whole famdamily and drive to San Diego and board a cruise ship heading to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We figured it would be a good experience for our kids to actually see what it is like to travel outside of the US and see what other kids lives are like. It was a fun experience!!! The kids had a ball and it was a good cultural experience for them. We tried to teach them a little etiquette too....maybe someday????
When we got to Cabo, we went on a snorkeling excursion on a catamaran. We sailed past Lover's Beach, Land's End and went to the Sea of Cortez to snorkel....absolutely beautiful!!! It was the kids first time swimming entirely (not just playing) in salt water, they didn't enjoy the taste much....hehehe!!! Ashton, Maddie, and I were knocked over by a BIG wave, and that was the end of that for Maddie. While swimming, Ashton and I were stung by jellyfish. It feels like getting stung by a bunch of wasps at the same time......OUCH!!! Here are a few photo highlights of the trip.
Throughout the summer, we took out the jetskis to different lakes around Utah. This picture was taken on Richard's birthday...we went to Yuba Lake.
Camden and Jaden started High School in August. With that came drivers education.....MAJOR ANXIETY to have not one kid but TWO learning how to drive. They also were ESTATIC to finally get their braces off in October. However, retainers have been another problem....with keeping track of them anyway!!! There have been several adventures just looking for lost retainers. Camden also was asked out on his very first date....to Sadie Hawkins at West Jordan High School....hehehe!!!
Ashton is in 5th grade and really enjoys everything about it. He was able to attend the 5th grade campout at Clear Creek and had so much fun. He still is really into Cub Scouts and wants to pass off EVERYTHING!!! He earned his Arrow of Light midway through the year and has every intention on earning every pin the Webelos program has to offer.
Madelyn is in 3rd grade and is still a social butterfly who has a few crushes on a few of the boys....hehehe. She is totally just like her mom was when she was her age.
Richard continues to work for the Federal Reserve and has traveled to various places this year. He is still in the XBOX and gaming scene, probably will always be. He really enjoys mountain biking and has gone on several mountain biking trips with his buddies. Here are a few pics of his trip to St. George/Gooseberry Mesa in October.
Becky (that would be me) continues to work ON-CALL part-time(ha,ha) for IHC in Orem at a very busy Family Practice and OB/GYN clinic. I only work when I am needed, but I have gone from one maternity leave to the next....So I have just about been full-time the entire year, with no benefits I might add. It is a really fastpaced job and I really like it most days, except when you get that occasional impatient onery person that you have to deal with NOW!!! In October, a friend of mine thought that I should open a Facebook account so that we could discuss our upcoming 20 year High School Reunion.....now you can say that I am just a little bit ADDICTED to FACEBOOK....the rest of the year is history!!! hehehe
