Recently my husband has had an old friend from Canada to visit. They had not seen each other for around 28 years, so I thought it would be nice to make something as a memento of his trip. I decided upon a set of 6 table mats.
There are lots of bears in Canada, so the bear's paw block was an obvious choice and using red fabric makes it almost look like the Canadian maple leaf.
For the cutlery part of the placemat, I used a fabric by Lewis and Irene called The Glen.
Very Scottish with stags heads and tartan. White or cream would have been too stark a contrast so I used two shades of grey.
I pre- washed those red fabrics a couple of times and was very glad I did as a LOT of dye came out!
Onto the frame for quilting. I used one layer of Hobbs 80/20 and Glide thread.
I finished them off with some light grey binding.
I think they turned out pretty nice and hubby';s friend was delighted!
This week I've been working on a baby quilt of my own design and also quilting a pretty Grandmother's fan quilt for a customer.
Pictures of them next time.
Thanks for visiting today.
Happy sewing.
Rhianon.
