blinded by the lights..
the one about separation
i never knew complacency to be a bad thing.complacency provides assurance. and assurance breeds confidence, no?
then i see his still body and think about all the times i could have done much more.
now i see how complacency breeds regrets. and how regrets breed devastation.
separation. between factions. within factions. i have no wish to be embroiled in politics. the simplest of wishes, to respect and honour; is that too much to ask?
i hope you see the luxury, extravagance and vastness of the beach; never the gore and bloodshed on the other shore
an eulogy
almost exactly 10 years later.
he loved reading. his speech was always littered with quotes from shakespeare, austere jokes about winston churchill and most often, from LeE KuaN YeW, the person he looked up to more than anybody else in the world.
he had a zest for knowledge and was always in touch with politics around the world, his favourite channel being CNN, and when that wasnt available, the bbc or cna.
and he loved ballroom dancing. i once peeked in on him waltzing to music by himself, a lonely dance with no partner and none he could think of asking.
his battle was a long drawn out affair. blow after blow, time after time, his body bore the brunt of the damage. his mind was clear, but his body gave up on him sooner than he had hoped. even then the battles continued, more for name than for his wellbeing, more for themselves than for him. he was constantly divided and caught in endless rounds of gunfire and provocation. which might explain why he chose to leave the way he did.
i hope you have finally found your peace ah kong.
