Product Review: Kurgo Car Dog Harness

When I say "who wants to go for a ride," chaos ensues. My dogs go berserk, bouncing like pogo sticks - they're off the walls, furniture, each other... When we finally make it to the car, they're absolute terrors. They're constantly on the move between the front and back seats, trying to get onto my lap, and knocking my rearview mirror our of whack. It's not only annoying, it's dangerous!

Of course, the solution is not to bring them anywhere, but we love taking them hiking, and some rides are unavoidable - they still have to get into the car to go to the vet. So, when Kurgo asked us to review their dog Tru-Fit Smart Harness, we jumped at the chance.

Kurgo's Tru-Fit Smart Harness

This is not a wimpy harness. It's very well-made and nicely reinforced. Admittedly, it took me a while to figure it out - it seems to have lots of buckles and straps, and it looked too small for Oliver. But once he stood still long enough for me to buckle it on and adjust the straps, the fit was great. All of those buckles mean a much better fit.

There's a tether that attaches to the metal loop on the back of the harness. Pass the car's seatbelt through the tether's loop, and Crazy Dog is buckled in.

Buckled in and behaving! And oh, so handsome!

Even Charlie the Dancing Dog loves this harness...

What's really nice is that it doubles as a walking harness. The loop is in the front of the harness on the chest, which makes it difficult for me to control my maniacs. But, I can also use the loop on the back of the harness - where the tether attaches - to walk the dogs.

It doubles as a walking harness - gotta love that!

"Enough with the pictures! Let's go already!"

Pros: This harness goes from car to walking, no need to change to another harness or remove this altogether before the dogs get out of the car. Don't be misled by the size of the fabric that covers the chest - it might be slimmer than most, but it's durable and strong, and cooler for the pooch.

Cons: The buckles take some getting used to. If your dog is a squirmer like mine, it could be tough getting this secured. But once you get the hang of it, you're good to go.

Bottom line: This harness gets Paws Up from all four dogs and two Thumbs Up from their human!
