CIP reflections part 2
So in essence, CIP is useful. I would honestly not have known how to do macromedia flash and so on if not for CIP. While, yes I just learnt the basics, I feel that CIP provided the platform and acted as a catalyst in stimulating students' interest in computers and more specifically, softwares like ms word and flash.
This is critical for us when we grow up, in our bid to contribute to a company. CIP provides a holistic development for NP students and I am proud to say, I am happy to study CIP.
I've been studying for the examination and I feel that it requires a huge chunk of memmory power to memmorize the textbook. I feel that maybe, the exam should just focus on the ethics part of the textbook and how the digital revolution and divide is affecting our society. This will make us more focus leading to better comprehension and appreciation of the module and its contents.
PBLs should also cover the part on ethics, intellectual propert rights and egronomics. Maybe a PBL 3 can be given, or maybe add more weightage to the two PBLs.
So that's about it. So three cheers to CIP...
Cheers!

My comments are bellow.....theese are my CIP reflections

Do you think the syllabus covered is appropriate? Is this what you expect in the module? If not, can you suggest what other useful topics to be included in CIP, OR what topics should not have been included at all (if any)?
Are the workshops on MS Word, Powerpoint & Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash interesting & useful? Are these appropriate in developing your IT hands-on skills?
Are the PBL problems authentic enough for you to learn better? Does it provide an opportunity for you to work effectively in teams as well as develop problem solving skills?
Are the lecturers and tutors helpful in your learning? Is the class size of 40 a good size for effective learning?
If there is 1 thing that you can change in CIP, what would it be?
If there is at least 1 useful thing that you appreciate in CIP, what would it be?

So now here are my comments on my CIP....

Okay, yes, CIP is indeed a mind broadening module as it strectches my mind...Indeed, this was what I expected from CIP, except that I feel that more emphasis could be place on more practical skills such as studying how business fail due to IT failures and so on. We as business students will then have some knowledge on how to deal with them in the future, if we face one.

Indeed, yes, flash, MS word and so on are very applicable to us and is very hands on. This is important as we as poly grads need to know how to use such stuff. The PBL 1 report was good in giving us something hands on to do. I feel that I learnt the most from doing the report.

The problems and authentic enough yes...But somehow, i feel that we as business students only gave "theoratical answers". I feel that maybe one lesson on practical troubleshooting can be held to boost our competency in this area. Neverthless, the problems provided an avenue for teamwork and group cordination..

The lecturer is good and the class size of 40 is an appropriate number to sick to. I mean, the lecturer has enough time to divide among the whole class and each person has enough attention given to him or her.

If there is one thing I can change in CIP, the first and foremost thing is to make it even more practical. Even though there are PBLs and so on, I feel that the exam has too much a weightage. Maybe a test 2 can be given and the student will be tested on certain practical skills, like say how to remove a virus or install a firewall..It may be a rather fresh idea, but I feel that students these days don't know how a firewall works in real life. So maybe students can be given a test on how to install firewalls and how to make use of them?

I appreciate learning MS word by leaps and bounds. Learning to use footnotes and so on are very important for me, yet i would not have known if not for CIP. So I feel that learning more advance ms word features is very very essential for me.

CIP is a good module and it should be continued for the next few semesters. But maybe more hands on activities can be done.

Macromedia flash is hard, don't you think so?

I've been cracking my head for a long time over macromedia flash, and still no break through. For 2 weeks mind you, I have been doing it, and re-doing it...and I still can't do it...

sigh....

Went to funnan with my group members on wednesday as it was e learning week.

tiffany thought of the most hilarious idea, but yes it worked. She said why not just ask the chap what on earth are routers and servers and so on....So our group went into a cyber cafe and bingo, that chap told us what a router was.

But the conversation with the cyber cafe chap only lasted afew minutes...Cos I was confused enough...But still I learnt alot.

PBL is stressful. But with Tiffany, Deone, Charmaine and purple in the group, life is different,

So hello blog, this suppose to be my first post of CIP.

Well, well, my computing project (PBL) is tough. Sometimes I really wonder how on earth I am suppose to do something that is way beyond my comprehension. And excuse me, I am studying Business and not Computing. But, come to think about it, no harm learning more.

Learning is part of the jorney in life. PBL is there to stimulate my thoughts, to make to think beyond the surface and of course to be resourceful to gaining informaiton and data. I've approached IT experts, and tommorow, my group and I are going to funnan centre to sniff around the various gadgets and so on.

I really wonder, in the first place which shop assistant will entertain a bunch of students.

But, when there's a will, there is a way. I am sure all the tutors, lecturers and so on, made it sure that the majority of the students will be able to do PBL. So, I must press on. PBL will make me a more mature person in all ways, in group interaction, in life interaction and so on.

So press on!
