Win Wildcrafted Superfood Seeds :)

In case you didn't see the latest RawReform Newsletter over HERE, here's a recap of some of the info shared this week:

Many of you probably know already of Anthony Anderson, the "Raw Model" - did you know though that he just recently launched a line of Wildharvested Superfood Seeds to grow your very own superfoods at home for pennies...? :)

I LOVE this idea and product line...as you may know, Anthony has been nurturing his own permaculture kins domain/space of love in Minnesota for the last few years - you can check out videos of his place online...and over the years, Anthony came to the conclusion, just like us, that it seems to make a lot more sense to help grow and support wildharvested, sturdy plants, herbs and 'weeds', than to try to protect weaker domesticated plants that struggle with bugs, soil conditions, water access and many other factors. Dandelions for example are one of the BEST cleansers for our livers/blood...and they are super-resilient, popping up all over the place by themselves...compared to nurturing a romaine lettuce that ultimately has a lot less to offer medicinally, I know which we'd prefer to give garden space ;)

SO, Mr. Anderson, in his wisdom, went about collecting wild seeds for 13 different varieties of plant, focusing especially on perennials and packaging them up in super*sweet* little tins, for others to obtain and start growing in their own vicinities...LOVE it...these seeds are TROOPERS - just get them into soil and these guys will provide you with bountiful crops with very little further attention - they do not need baby-ing or protecting - they are STRONG and will bring your body valuable nourishment too - how fabulous :) I LOVE this project :))) Check out this video below with Anthony, explaining more about these new seeds:

Sweetness without Sugar–Spikes: Low–Glycemic Raw Foods

In recent years, a number of lovely low–glycemic raw food sweeteners have appeared on the market, which can be wonderful additions to any healthy eating plan. However, many people feel unsure how to use these delectable ingredients. In this article, you can find out the ‘skinny’ on delicious foods such as lucuma, mesquite, yacon, carob and stevia PLUS how to use them in raw food recipes :)

    Lucuma
Lúcuma (Pouteria obovata) is a Peruvian sub–tropical fruit that is usually found in raw food stores as a powder, made from the dried fruits. This yellow–gold, rich powder is actually my FAVOURITE of the lower–glycemic sweet raw powders, as it has a unique, delicious taste – something similar to shortbread or caramel.
Lucuma used to be called ‘The Gold of the Incas’ and is said to be the most popular flavour for ice cream in Peru where it natively grows ;) Lucuma is related to mamey, green sapote and canistel (egg fruit) and is an excellent source of carbohydrates, fiber, beta–carotene, B vitamins and iron.

    Yacon
Yacón (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is a root vegetable, also native to Peru, in the Andes. Yacon can be found in many forms in raw food stores – syrup, powder, dried slices. It is often called the ‘apple of the earth’ and is related to the sunflower and Jerusalem artichoke. The syrup is very thick, dark and sweet while the dried slices taste a bit like dried pineapple slices and make great snack food, or trail mix additions.
Yacon is actually said to be ‘no glycemic’ as the sugars it contains (inulin/fructooligosacaride (FOS)) cannot be absorbed by the human body, which makes this a low–calorie product popular with diabetics and those with other sugar–related issues such as candida. Yacon is reputed to be a pre–biotic and a pro–biotic, meaning it supports the beneficial bacteria in the intestines. It is also rich in fiber, potassium and antioxidants.

    Mesquite
Mesquite powder is made by grinding the seed pods of the mesquite tree (Prosopis spp. – also known as algorroba) – a leguminous plant found in arid/desert areas worldwide. This golden powder has a distinctive, sweet, almost nutty taste.
Mesquite powder is high in protein, lysine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, and dietary fiber. Mesquite is another sweetener recommended for diabetics or those interested in balancing blood sugars.

    Carob Powder
Carob powder is also made by grinding seed pods – this time, the pods from the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua). Carob is another leguminous tree, native to the Mediterranean – it also grows well in California and Florida.
Carob has long been appreciated as a non–stimulating alternative to chocolate. The silky–fine carob powder from Italy that we sell is the richest, most chocolaty carob powder I’ve ever tried. Look out too for dried whole carob bean pods.
Carob is not particularly sweet by itself, however, combined with any of the other sweeteners mentioned here, you can create delicious chocolate replacements. Carob is said to be rich in calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, B Vitamins, Vitamin A, protein and fibre and is also traditionally used to relieve diarrhea in infants.

    Stevia
The herb stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) is part of the sunflower family, native to South and Central America. It is very popular with diabetics as it doesn’t raise blood sugar levels and is almost calorie–free.
Stevia can be obtained in different forms, from the whole leaves, to crushed leaves, powders, liquid extracts and so on. It is intensely sweet and only a very small amount is required in recipes (it’s easy to accidentally use too much stevia and alter the taste of meals, so add it in small amounts to begin with ;)
Stevia is said to contain calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc, though it is usually used in such tiny amounts that the nutritional benefits might be minimal... It’s used more as an easy way to add a lot of sweetness without adding more calories/bulk to a dish.

    Other Sweet Treats

    Goji Powder/Goji Berries
Goji berries (Lycium barbarum) have become very popular in recent years as a healthy sweet ‘superfood’. They are part of the nightshade family. Dried whole goji berries are very widely available, along with goji berry powder. I LOVE the goji berry powder and feel it is best eaten straight from the packet ;) It can be used in smoothies, puddings, cakes and so on too though. Gojis are said to be rich in protein/amino acids, B Vitamins, beta carotene and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium and zinc.

    Pomegranate

Pomegranate fruits (Punica granatum) are native to the Middle East and are now grown all over the world. Pomegranates are a medium–glycemic, delicious fresh fruit and it is also possible to get dried, concentrated pomegranate powder and dried whole pomegranate seeds. The pomegranate powder is bright pink and tastes a bit like sherbet ;) It’s nice used in smoothies, cakes and puddings. The dried whole pomegranate seeds can be used like any other dried fruit, though they are much more ‘tart’ in flavour than something like dates/apricots. Pomegranates are said to be rich in B vitamins, Vitamin C, iron and potassium.

    Hemp Protein 50%
Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is a plant with many uses, from food to clothing, fuel, paper, cosmetics and more. Hemp powder 50% is a powdered hemp product made by Nutiva that contains less fibre and more protein – 50% protein. It is sweeter than most hemp powders because there is less fibre. While this powder is not super–sweet by itself, it is certainly a unique, nutrient–packed ingredient for sweet raw dishes. Hemp is rich in essential fats, protein, vitamin E and iron.

    Coconut
Coconut (Cocos nucifera) is an awe–inspiring plant with myriad uses. As a food it is available in many raw forms such as coconut flour, oil, butter, chips, shreds or simply fresh coconut water/meat. Coconut is naturally a little sweet.
Coconut water is a rich source of electrolytes and in general coconut offers healthy fats, iron, zinc phosphorus and some B vitamins, among other things.
I love using coconut butter, flour or fresh coco water/meat in sweet meals, plus adding coconut chips to soups for a tasty, chewy garnish ;) My absolute favourite use of coconuts though is drinking the sweet, fresh coco water – YummmMmMmmmm...

    Nuts & Seeds
Some nuts/seeds and their butters have a natural sweetness to them, which can make them ideal choices in recipes like cakes, cookies, grawnolas etc. I find almonds naturally a little sweet for example, along with macadamias, hemp seeds, pine nut butter and hazelnut butter.

    Bee Pollen

While different bee pollens can differ vastly in their taste, colour and texture, they are usually naturally at least a little sweet. The best bee pollen I’ve ever tasted was from a little bee–keeper in New Orleans somewhere and the pollen actually tasted like chocolate ;O I don’t know what those bees had been picking up but it was a gorgeous concoction.
Bee pollen is a nutrition treasure–trove – proteins, amino acids, folic acid, B vitamins, trace minerals, vitamins E and K and much more...
I like to just eat bee pollen by itself usually. We have a gorgeous sweet pollen in our store that I eat regularly. One of my favourite ways to eat pollen is to simply mix together pollen with shelled hemp seeds as a nutrient–packed ‘trail mix’ or snack.
(Warning: some people can get allergic reactions to bee products/pollen – always try a small amount at first.)

    Honourable Mentions:

    Cinnamon
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is a spice made from the cinnamon tree. Cinnamon is naturally a little sweet, plus warming and pungent.
Cinnamon ‘quills’ are made by stripping bark from cinnamon trees and drying it. The dried bark is then commonly made into a powder.
Cinnamon is said to have a high level of antioxidants, manganese, iron, calcium and there are also reports that it can be useful in treating diabetes/blood sugar imbalances.

    Vanilla
Vanilla (Vanilla spp.) is an exotic, pungent spice derived from the seed pods of orchids. Vanilla is available in different forms like whole vanilla pods, vanilla powder, liquid forms and so on. We have an incredible vanilla powder for sale, along with whole beans.
While vanilla is not particularly sweet by itself, it makes a lovely addition to many sweet raw dishes. Vanilla is well–known as an aphrodisiac and is also said to be a great aromatherapy scent to help handle food cravings.

    Maca
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable native to the Peruvian Andes. Maca is not particularly sweet by itself, yet is quite often used in sweet raw dishes as a ‘superfood’ addition. Maca is most commonly found in powdered form and is usually a creamy colour, though red and black maca powders are also available (green and purple roots also grow ;)
Maca is renowned as an energy–enhancer, aphrodisiac, adaptogen, hormone balancer and nutrient powerhouse. It is rich in minerals like selenium, calcium, magnesium, iron, plus protein, fatty acids and amino acids.

    CamuCamu Powder
Camu berries grow on small, wild trees (Myrciaria dubia) from the Amazon rainforest of Peru/S. America. Camu powder, made from the dried berries, can be purchased from raw food suppliers. It is usually pink in colour, a little sweet and very ‘zingy’, a bit like sherbet ;) It is reputed to contain the highest amount of Vitamin C of any food, along with flavenoids, calcium, iron and amino acids.
Camu by itself is a bit more ‘zingy’ than sweet – it can be used to add ‘zing’ to sweet dishes though ;) I usually just take it by itself as a powerful, bioavailable vitamin C supplement.

    Fresh Low Glycemic Foods:

If you’d prefer to have some fresh low glycemic sweet treats, here’s a list of yummy possibilities:

*berries (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, cranberries etc.)
    *limes/lemons
    *fresh cherries
    *grapefruit
*non–sweet ‘fruits’ like bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, okra
    *fresh corn
    *rhubarb
*edible flowers and blossoms, such as mallow, borage, fuchsia, hibiscus, jasmine and squash blossoms.

    Recipes
You can create untold sweet wonders using different combinations of the above ingredients ;) For a little inspiration to get you started, here are eight recipes that use a variety of the foods mentioned above:

    *Almond Dreambars
Watch HERE to see how to make these dreeeaaaammmmy smooth treats ;)
Ingredients: almond butter (or any nut/seed butter), coconut oil, lucuma, goji berries

    *Hemp Milk
Click HERE to watch my demo of how to make a sweet, yummy hemp milk drink.
Ingredients: hemp seed (butter), cinnamon, cardamom, sweetener such as lucuma/yacon/stevia/dried fruit. Optional: maca, whole goji berries to float in milk ;)

    *Yumballs
Visit HERE to learn how to create some delicious goji berry ‘yumballs’ for sweet treats from the fridge ;)
Ingredients: goji berries, nut/seed butter, yacon/lucuma powder. Optional: hemp protein 50%, stevia, cinnamon, maca

    *Yumpots
One of my favourite, quick ways to make smthg sweet, raw and delectable is to simply mix up a few of the ingredients mentioned above, by hand, in a little bowl. I call these ‘yumpots’ and the variations are endless – here’s an example, to serve one:

    1 tbsp hempseed butter
    1 tbsp carob powder
    1 tbsp yacon powder
    big pinch cinnamon powder
water to thin to desired consistency
optional: 1 tbsp goji berries to stir in for chewability

Simply put all the ingredients into a little bowl, mix together by hand and ENJOY :)

    *Truffles
Sweet raw truffles can easily be made up in batches and kept in the fridge or freezer for instant sweet satisfaction as and when desired ;) Again, the possibilities are endless, here is a basic example recipe to start with:

3–5 tbsp (to taste) of powdered sweetener of your choice – e.g. lucuma, yacon, mesquite powders (NOT stevia in these quantities ;)
3 tbsp almond butter OR 1 cup soaked nuts of your choice, e.g. walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans
    ½ cup carob powder
Liquid to combine – e.g. water, nut/seed milk, fresh coconut water – to desired consistency

Combine everything in a food blender/processor until all bound together in a big sticky lump. Divide out into small balls and chill in fridge or freezer. Can be rolled in powder (e.g. hemp protein 50%) or shredded coconut, decorated with gojis and so on – use your creativity ;) Add different things like coconut oil/butter, vanilla, cinnamon, bee pollen, a couple of drops of orange/peppermint oil, maca, camucamu powder etc for different tastes and effects.

    *Satisfying Smoothies
Again, the possibilities for sweet, low–glycemic, satisfying smoothies are endless. Here’s an example recipe to get you started (for one person):

2 cups nut/seed milk (see hemp milk recipe above to see how to make nut/seed milk if unsure) OR the water and meat from a young coconut
    2 tbsp lucuma powder
    ½ tsp maca powder
    pinch of stevia
    big pinch of cinnamon powder

Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender and enjoy :) As elsewhere, try different ingredients/combos to your taste – e.g. add goji or pomegranate powder, hemp protein 50% powder, sprinkle with bee pollen or go chocolate–y with a heaping tablespoon of raw carob powder ;)

    *Chia ‘Rice Pudding’
Chia seeds are a wonderfully energising, light, filling food to use in puddings, cookies and cakes. Here’s a simple chia mock ‘rice pudding’ idea (serves one):

    4-5 tbsp dry chia seeds
2 cups nut/seed milk of choice (e.g. almond, hemp milk)
2 tbsp lucuma or mesquite powder
    pinch of stevia
    big pinch of cinnamon powder
    optional: cardamom to taste

In a blender, mix together all the ingredients except the chia seeds. Pour the mixture out into a bowl, stir in the chia seeds and let them soak up the liquid for at least 10 minutes before eating. You might also like to stir in some goji berries or coconut chips, top with some goji powder, add some maca powder or sprinkle with carob powder before serving...Enjoy :)

    *Green Goddess Ice Cake
This gorgeous recipe is from Icelandic Raw Goddess Solla, voted one of the top raw food chefs in the world, in the 2008 Best of Raw Awards :)
You can use this as a complete recipe for a cake, or you can also just make the base to use as candy balls or just make the filling, as a pudding – this is a versatile recipe... Solla recommends making the cakes in small muffin molds...

Cake Crust (this can also be made into little ‘candy’ balls)
    3/4 cup soaked almonds
    1/4 cup raw coconut flakes
    1 cup goji berries
    1 Tbsp organic lime zest
    hint of vanilla or cinnamon
    1/8 Tsp Himalayan crystal salt

Process all the ingredients together in a food processor. If the mixture seems very dry, add 1-2 Tbsp of water, then press the crust into a cake pan or muffin molds.

Cake Filling (this can also be served on its own as a pudding – perhaps using avocado instead of coconut meat)
1 cup young coconut meat (OR pine nuts and/or macadamias - soaked for 2-4hrs)
    3 Tbsp lucuma
    1 Tbsp mesquite
    1/2 cup yacon syrup
    1/3 cup lime juice
    2-3 Tbsp lime zest

Blend all the ingredients for the filling in a high speed blender or a food processor until smooth and creamy, then pour the filling over the crust. Place the cake(s) into the freezer for at least 1-2 hrs. ENJOY :)

Solla is the chef for our 30–Day Raw Food Weight Loss Programme ‘The RevitaLive Plan’, which offers a full 4–week, low–glycemic raw food menu planner, with all the recipes included. You can see more about RevitaLive and access Solla’s recipes HERE. We also offer ongoing monthly meal planners from Solla, in our ‘Inner Circle’ raw food community, see HERE.

If you’d love more inspiration for making low–glycemic sweet raw treats, I recommend checking out Kate Magic’s unique superfood recipe book, ‘Raw Magic’, which includes many of the above ingredients in the recipes.
Evie’s Kitchen’ by Shazzie is another great resource for recipes with these alternative sweeteners.
I also always recommend checking out online raw recipe resources like goneraw.com for further ideas.

I trust this has given you some extra inspiration for your own raw food experiments.
Most of the dried foods mentioned above can be found at the RawReform Store.
    Enjoy :)

    Diabetes, Discussions and Yumballs... ;)

OOoooo, greens at the ready, it’s World Diabetes Day today, Friday the 14th of November :)
To mark the occasion, over 700 monuments around the world are being lit up with blue lights, including the Empire State Building in NYC and the London Eye in England. Perhaps you’d like to join in the celebration by pinning blue lights on your roof...? Or perhaps a more exciting way to celebrate on this day is to invest in a copy of the life-changing raw food documentary on reversing diabetes naturally, called Simply Raw? Mmmm, I think I know which I’d choose... ;)
Ext-RAW-dinarily, there will be diabetes-related events kicking off ALL over the world on this day and yet information about how to naturally reverse this condition does not seem to be actively embraced or encouraged by the World Diabetes Day team. (In fact, the WDD website/organisation has gone so far as to remove any mentions of the Simply Raw film posted to its website by users...hmmmm...interesting policy methinks... ;)
SO, in honour of the multiplying multitudes of our brothers and sisters worldwide who are living with diabetes and simply not receiving the message that they can heal naturally, myself, the Monarch and over a dozen other raw food renegades have come together to create a super-package of giveaways, to support the ‘Simply Raw’ documentary team’s mission to spread the truth.
You can see the details of this giveaway HERE – there are STACKS of generous goodies to get your mittens on – e-books, discount packages, interviews etc - for anyone who orders a copy of the Simply Raw DVD before November the 21st. (There are truly some amazing gifts in there, including the whole of Mr. M’s “Raw Success” e-book, my ‘Revealing the Physical Changes’ e-book, a whole CD recording from Wolfie, 2 free e-books on raising raw children from Storm and Jinjee, a 50% off scholarship for courses at Brenda Cobb’s living foods centre and...a free toe-nail clipping for every customer, from Gabriel Cousens (I made the last one up – he’s actually offering a chapter from his latest book ;) ...and the DVD is only a $29.95 investment - wow, it’s like Christmas come early ;) You might consider hosting a showing of this film in YOUR area, or at a potluck, or sharing it with anyone you know who is (pre-)diabetic (I wonder how many people these days DON’T know someone who is diabetic...???)
If you’ve been reading here for a while, you might remember that I watched this documentary a couple of months back (after excitedly waiting around 3 years for it to be completed ;) – I LOVED it – you can see my write-up on it HERE. You can also see the trailer for the film HERE.

    ENJOY :)

on November the 12th I had:

    1.5 quarts water
1.5 cups green juice: celery, cucumber, fennel, endive, spinach, kale, cabbage, ginger, lime
    1 persimmon
2 cups energy soup with okra on the side, followed by a few amazing little raw goji yumballs made by the Monarch
    little cup of rooibus tea
    2 cups water
1.5 cups yummy veggie juice: carrot/fennel/romaine
1 cup energy soup with okra on the side, followed by a little bowl of chia/pomegranate pudding
    little cup of rooibus tea
    2 cups water

Ho-hummmmmm...Mr. Monarch left for the US again today = me sad again... ;(
Yes, the US-visa-waiting saga continues...he’s going back to take care of some business, while I continue to breathe deeply here in the UK for now...hmmmmm...well, in the meantime, if you’d like to hear the Monarch’s musings on travel as a raw foodist, along with discussions about being 100% raw or not, overeating, dwindling bee populations and more, he and two of those ever-lovely goddesses of raw, Victoria Boutenko and Laura Fox, had a mighty chin-wag about all that on Wednesday night on Raw Inspirations Radio, that you can listen to HERE, if it would delight you to do so...(you might even notice a sneaky cameo from a certain Stokes too, if you listen carefully... ;)

on November the 13th I had:

    1.5 quarts water
    1 cup orange/pomegranate juice
    1 persimmon
1.5 cups greeeen juice: celery, cucumber, fennel, endive, spinach, kale, cabbage, ginger, lime
2 cups energy soup with okra on the side, followed by some Monarch yumball concoctions
    little mug of rooibus tea
    2 cups water
1.5 cups veggie juice: celery, spinach, endive, carrot
little bowl of yummy kale salad with lime juice, avo, apple and nori strips (using up leftovers – worked GREAT :), followed by some Monarch yumballs
    little cup of rooibus tea
    2 cups water

Well, before he left, Mr. Monarch fortunately relayed the recipe to me for the current batches of low-glycemic ‘yumballs’, so that I can make them for myself now... ;) Each batch has been a little different so far – they all follow the same kind of pattern though and they’re YUMMMMMMY, so I’ll try to summarise in a way that will get you the taste, with space to play around with the exact ingredients you choose to include...
Ok, so, here are the important elements:

    1 cup goji berries
    water
    2.5 tbsp nut butter
3-7 tbsp sweet raw powder (might be yacon powder, lucuma powder, or the most recent batch he made had the new 50% Hemp Protein Powder from Nutiva and is soooooooooooooooo good – this new HPP tastes like WEETABIX (for those of you in the UK) or WHEAT CHEX (for those in N. America - I think that's what Mr. M said the name was ;) – WOW)

    Directions:
First you soak the gojis in water, for at least 3 hours or so, until soft. Do not use much water – barely cover the gojis in fact with water – it is ok if some on the top are hardly touching water. Once the gojis are softened, pour them with the soak water into a food processor with the S-blade in place. Add in 2.5 tbsp of whichever nut butter you desire (me like almond butter) and a big whack of whichever powder you’re using (at least 3 tbsp – use more if you used more water). Process that all together into a yummy smooth consistency. If it looks very loose, keep adding in more powder until it stiffens up more. In a little bowl, sprinkle some more powder. Take little balls of the goji mixture in your hands and roll them in the powder in the bowl, before placing them in a 'Tupperware box' for storage in the fridge. Mr. M thinks they have the consistency of marshmallows ;) They are VERRRRY yummy – soaking the gojis seems to make a huge difference.
Other variations we’ve tried out include adding a little stevia powder and cinnamon to the mix, to make it sweeter, sprouted/dehydrated buckwheaties to add more crunch or maca to the powder that goes on the outside of the balls, for some extra OOOMPH ;) ENJOY :)

    We love you,
    Angelalalaalaaaaaaaaa. xxx

    A Breath of Fresh Air...

So, we’re back in Australia now and really appreciating the clean air ;) It’s lovely to breathe so freely and we’re once again detoxing like crazy, releasing lots of accumulated nonsense from the last few weeks, waking up daily with mucus streaming (sorry if that's TMI for anyone ;). I actually completely lost my voice in Thailand, as the pollution was so intense that I had a hacking cough a lot of the time – it was very odd to experience – can’t remember the last time I lost my voice and it seems that I associate things like that with having tonsillitis etc when younger and feeling horrendous...well, nothing like that now – I felt mostly fine – the hacking cough just wrenched my voice away. Usually I sing often in the space of any day and it’s been odd to not be able to do that recently, or to have some odd squeaky noises pop out if I do try to sing ;). My voice still isn’t 100% back yet – it’s getting there though... Here in Australia all is sunny autumnal days of blue skies and rustling leaves in amazing shades of red, orange, brown, pink and yellow...very chilly compared to Thailand – I’d rather have fresh air right now though than heat... ;)

on May the 17th I had:

    1 quart water
    2 cherimoyas
    3 cups spinach/Jerusalem artichokes/celery/parsley/carrot juice
    2 cups water
romaine wraps – avocado, tomato, cilantro, karengo seaweed, with yummy macadamia/flax crackers on the side
    3 cups water
    2 cups spinach/Jerusalem artichokes/celery/parsley/carrot juice
3 ladyfinger bananas and 1lb cherries
    1 quart water

For those of you in the UK or thereabouts, be sure to shimmy along to New Horizons at Inspiral in London this Tuesday (the 20th) to hear Philip McCluskey of LovingRaw.com share about his colossal weight loss experiences with raw foods and his recent 100 day Juice Feast. WOW :) Sounds amazing – his presentation is titled ‘Half the Man’, as Philip has lost nearly 200lbs since going raw 2 years ago, from his top weight of 400lbs :O – a phenomenal journey. If you can’t make it along to his event, you might enjoy to watch some of his yummy videos HERE or check out his blog HERE...
    ENJOY :)

on May the 18th I had:

    1 quart water
    3 cups celery/spinach/parsley/carrot juice
    2lbs cherries
    2 cups water
pumpkin seeds, wakame seaweed fronds, romaine lettuce leaves, cilantro, followed be a few dried apple ring pieces
    2 cups water
    2 cups celery/spinach/parsley/carrot juice
bowl of blended yum: dried figs, almonds, spirulina
    1 quart water

Here's some info on new products from my latest newsletter, in case you missed it ;)
We’ve been adding ALL kinds of wonderful new products to the RawReform Store lately, from Spirooli Slicers, Greek flax crackers and Colosan colon cleanser to the 9th book in the Anastasia Series, Barberries, new E3 Live flavours and all kinds of books and yum in-between. You can see ALL our new products HERE. http://store.rawreform.com//products_new.php?

Here are MY top five favourite new items:

Onion Bread - Finally, the raw foodist's ultimate solution to bread cravings. This is definitely the best raw onion bread we've tried - soft, chewy, with a deliciously more-ish flavour, similar to fried onions. Great with any kind of topping/spread or served as a sandwich, with a tasty raw burger. Beat those bread/pasta cravings once and for all ;) Enjoy :)

Goji Powder – WOW :) This goji powder is SO vibrant, easy to add into smoothies, sprinkle over grawnolas for an extra hit of nutrients or mix up with other powders to make bliss balls and raw cakes. Gojis are fabulous for supporting the thyroid, kidneys and the immune system. They are a GREAT source of vitamins A & C, B vits, protein and iron.

Bliss Conscious Communication by Happy Oasis - Fabulous guidance for free-flowing, fun conversations. I recommend this book in ‘Raw Emotions’. It helps people to become more conscious about how they communicate and cease using a limited vocabulary. It can help you to understand exactly how your thoughts and the words you say have a real impact on the world. Yummy :)

Ulimana Chocolate Brownies and Spreads – Ok, WATCH OUT for these products. They are off-the-scale gorgeous raw chocolate creations from those lovely Ulimana people in North Carolina who make the sensational truffles. Now they’re making brownies and spreads too and you can even buy tubs packed solid with the mixture they use to make the truffles (my favourite). These products are truly incredible edibles...enjoy :)

Yacon Powder – This is my current favourite of all the different low-glycemic raw sweeteners out there. I tried this for the first time recently and LOVE it – it’s sweet and tasty without being OVERsweet. Yacon is a root vegetable from S. America that is said to be NO glycemic (as the sugars cannot be absorbed by the body), as well as acting as a probiotic – WOW, pretty impressive for a sweetener ;)

    Wild Things...

Hellooooooo, I do hope all you Americans have been enjoying some wonderful (raw) Independence Day celebrations today ;)
I’ve had a fun time – I just gave a raw food talk here tonight in Canada for the first time in abt 5 weeks and it was great to speak again with a large crowd…I feel so immersed in raw foodism these days, I forget how many people are still new to this path – it’s exciting to share with people for whom this is all totally fresh…wow...it's amazing to think that we've become so accustomed in our societies to consuming denatured, processed things, that many humans struggle to even conceive of eating 'only' raw foods...how curious we are as a species...sometimes I look at the essence of what a lot of my work these days entails and it seems a little absurd - all it really is, after all, is telling people to eat food that comes directly from nature...I don't believe such events happen among cheetah or antelope populations, for example... ;) they do not seem to need meetings to remind each other what is most beneficial to them to eat...yet we humans seem to have wandered so far from the 'wild' path that we can definitely use a reminder and some support here and there...

On July the 4th I had:

    1.5 litres water
    600ml cucumber/celery/fennel/lemon juice
    box of raspberries
    500ml water
bowl of soaked chia seed with bananas, lucuma, goji berries, pinch of salt
    500ml water
    box of cherries
3 tbsp hemp seed and bee pollen
    box of strawberries
    bunch of red grapes
    1 litre water

I am SO into red foods at the moment…look at this list today – raspberries, gojis, cherries, strawberries, red grapes…full of iron, energising, grounding –plus these are all low glycemic, aside from the grapes…I LOVE it…yesterday I also forgot to say that I foraged some fresh berries on a hike - mmmmmm...some very yummy different red and black berries...plus some wild greens that had my third eye chakra POUNDING...wow...it blows me away everytime - the difference in the power I feel from fresh-picked wild foods, compared to shop bought greens...completely different voltage ;)
One reader – Dana – sent in some great feedback abt the ‘toilet talk’ from yesterday: in her bathroom she has a sign that says: "Do not flush unless you have a SOLID reason" and she uses ‘a double thickness plastic zip-loc bag filled with water as a "hippo".’ NICE…thanks for sharing, Dana ;)

    Subtle influences...

I met the grand-daddy of Juice Feasting on Wednesday night. I spoke in Houston, TX at a raw potluck and the marvellous Mr John Rose came along for the evening. John has been doing Juice Feasts for about 18 years and has helped thousands of others rebuild their health along the way. He passed on the concept to David Rain a few years back, who passed it to me last autumn…so, it was really exciting for me to meet this kind, gentle, loving man who is so ready and willing to help others help themselves. He works tirelessly sharing this message. You can see more about John at www.juicefeasting.com.

On Wednesday 9th of May I had:

    750ml water
    600ml veggie juice
    1 small papaya
    400ml water
avocado with spinach, cumin, Himalayan crystal salt, in nori
    1 litre water
1 plate of raw potluck food – salad, eggplant pizza, fermented veggies and so on
    1 litre water

The potluck was great – very ‘clean’ food – lots of greens and quite simple things – travelling all over this country, it’s so interesting to see the different character of the various raw groups and potlucks – some seem to be all about cakes and pies and chocolate and may have an air almost of ‘competition’ between the people creating amazing concoctions…and others are much simpler and ‘greener’…and of course all kinds of variations inbetween…I love them all and love too that I have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people this way ;)

on Thursday 10th of May I had:

    750ml water
    700ml celery/cucumber/kale juice
    1 small papaya
    500ml water
    avocado/Himalayan crystal salt/spinach in nori
    500ml water
    box of strawberries
    3 apples
    1 litre water

WOW…I am SOOOO relieved – my old trusty laptop has finally been given permission to retire after 2 years of outstanding service in the name of raw food ;) A super-shiny new MacBook Pro has come to take over the task of helping me spread the word and so far, we’re getting on really well…I’m delighted. I had HUGE fear about how to transfer all my gubbins from one machine to another, then the nice Apple people sold me a tiny piece of wire – about 12 inches long that somehow sent everything from one machine to the other and *DING*, that was it, job done…hallelujah for the magical Mac people that help make my life so much easier… :)

Today – Friday 11th May, I have had:

    750ml water
    300ml prune soak water
    6oz soaked dried prunes
    500g watermelon cubes
    250ml water
200g hemp seeds mixed with fresh bee pollen
    600g watermelon cubes
    250ml water
    avo/lime juice/Himalayan salt/nori and dulse
    400ml chamomile tea
    1 litre water

Today was a travelling day for me…am back over on the US east coast now…I speak here tomorrow evening in Connecticut…I spent most of today on planes and in airports again…I seem to have developed a pattern of causing disruption around the X-ray machines lately…for a start, I am nearly always carrying some kind of liquid that the staff want me to dispose of or consume before they will let me through – often water, but frequently green juice, which raises a few eyebrows…then pretty much without fail of late, the security people always want to go through my food bag…I am starting to think this is just out of curiosity ;) LOL…today for example the guy was fascinated with my seaweeds and coconut butter, calling over colleagues for show-and-tell…it nearly always turns into a little raw food introduction conversation…I have begun to consider it like my airport outreach education work…lol…sharing the raw message with the world’s security check-point staff, one airport at a time…so next time you’re in an airport, look out for me at the x-ray area – I’ll be the one downing bottles of green juice and displaying packets of gojis… ;)

    Eat Raw Live Long ;)

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew, the windy city has me almost blown off my feet with activity this week – so much going on right now - I had SUCH a great time speaking at Cousin’s restaurant a couple of nights ago…what a wonderful place and thanks to all who turned out for the event…Mehmet Ak, the owner, used to run 4 ‘standard’ Turkish restaurants in Chicago, then went raw, lost 90lbs and now runs this amazing raw Turkish-inspired restaurant/shop/event space…amazing exotic food, lovely staff and it’s all painted a beautiful greeeeeeeen colour ;) Mehmet was telling me about all kinds of raw food things that are unfolding in Turkey at the moment – wow, who would have thought it – not me…wouldn’t be the most obvious place to me to set up raw endeavours, but apparently there’s some amazing things kicking off over there…might be time for a visit back that way sometime soon… ;)

On April the 18th I had:

    700ml water
    400ml tea
    700ml green juice
apple-flax meal with gojis and cacao
    700ml water
    hemp/acai shake
    500ml green juice
    500ml water
    500ml clove tea
sample platter of salads at Cousin’s IV raw restaurant
samples of Cousin’s cheesecakes – strawberry, French vanilla and beetroot flavours ;)
    500ml water

Thanks to all of you who have been checking out the video I did with Jinjee and sending me in your comments – YES, it was a really great experience for me…glad you’re enjoying it too ;)
Also, ‘M’ left a comment here on this blog a few days back asking for examples of people who have been raw vegan for a long time – over 10 years – and whether this lifestyle seems to serve our wellbeing in the long-run…well, I would say Storm and Jinjee and their amazing family of 5 little raw people would definitely be a case-in-hand of how this lifestyle can help people to shine and thrive…Storm’s been raw for around 30 years or smthg astonishing like that…and he’s HUGE and ultra-healthy, very active…they made a whole documentary about their lives in fact – Breakthrough – if you haven’t seen that already – it is beautiful…raw vegan kids are quite AMAZING ;)
Other people I know who have been in this game a long ol’ time and are thriving include:

    Magic Kate
    Fred Bisci
    Happy Oasis
    Paul Nison

My feeling is that RAW FOOD can work for all body types – wherever you’re living, whatever you’re up to, whatever age you are, etc etc – whether that’s raw VEGAN food or involves other products, that’s up to you…it seems to me that the main KEY is that the food is RAW rather than processed/cooked – just like the way all the other animals eat. There are tribes all over the world that lived traditionally on raw food that was not vegan and have impeccable health records – e.g. the Inuits with their seal meat and blubber, the Masai who sustain their kids for days at a time on mixtures of raw blood and milk and so on…is this stuff OPTIMAL for the human system…? Well…perhaps not...but we humans did a pretty great job spreading ourselves out all over this globe and some of us ended up in places that don’t have the greatest access to…goji berries and fresh pineapple ;) so, it seems to me that as long as the foods we take in are RAW, we’re on a healthier path than dealing with processed things…as for me, I have been on this path for 5 years, and 100% raw/basically vegan (sometimes have bee pollen and honey) for 2 years now…and I feel GREAT ;)

On April the 19th I had:

    700ml water
    500ml tea
    400ml green juice
leftovers from Cousin’s Restaurant – dandelion salad, flax crackers, marinated egg-plant, wild rice salad, etc
    500ml water
    coconut/cacao treats
    1 litre water
    400ml tea
    2 litres water
    1 apple

I discovered that there is an infra-red sauna in the house I am staying in…woooooooooo-hooooooooo ;) I LOVE these things…intense heat, incredibly good for sweating out toxins…I sat in there for a good long time and felt really ultra clean and shiny afterwards…yummmmm…my body moved into a state of just wanting liquids as a result – huge amounts of water…there was actually a durian open in the house, but I didn’t even touch it – my body felt so great to be in a cleansing state and I just stayed with that instead… ;)
I am excited about Green Fest this weekend here in Chicago – it is going to be huuuuuuuuuuuuge…hope to see some of you there if you can make it… ;)

    All love for now,

    Gotta Have JUICE...

Wheeeeewww…big travelling day today…up at 5.30am and on the road/in the air most of the day…all the way from LA to the Creative Health Institute in Michigan…yeeeeeee-HAH :) Very happy to be here – it seems like a wonderful place and very greeeeeeeeeen…
I saw some amazing scenery on the way here – spectacular views of the Grand Canyon…then the desert gave way to rivers and tundra into mountains and snow and forests, then flat farmland and more desert…so many contrasts and SOOOOO much space and wilderness…very dramatic and beautiful for me to witness…
I felt sad to be leaving somewhere again – SoCal has been a great ‘home’ for me for the last month, with wonderful friends and community…I felt in a sleepy, hazy daze most of the day today while travelling and disconnecting myself from all that – like I was mainly in the lower ‘reptilian’ part of my brain. It was quite a blur and my energy felt mostly inward – it was challenging for me to try to ‘take much in’ beyond the bare minimum essentials of where to put my feet next to get to the right gate on time and when to get off planes, etc…and arriving into grey clouds, drizzle and the cold of the north felt like quite a shock to the system…;) I think I’ll be needing to get some more appropriate warm clothing over the next few days…it’s definitely cosy here at CHI though and I’m looking forward to speaking here tomorrow…

    Today I have had:

    1 litre water
    2 apples
    500ml water
    spinach/cilantro/lime/avo/dulse
    banana/chocolate chews
    500ml water
blended fig/coconut/dulse mix with spinach and nori
    500ml water
    handful of goji berries
    1 litre water

Today was the first day in a loooong time that I had no juice all day. Feels kind of strange. I got a nice little message from the universe abt it too, as I sat waiting in an airport lounge between planes today – a guy came over to plug his phone into the wall for charging and commented to me ‘gotta have juice’ :) He was speaking in regard to his phone needing energy, but I got the bigger message… ;) I don't know any airlines that serve green juice...YET ;) One day a raw airline fuelled on...hemp oil...will exist, with cushions and chaise longues for seating, no armrests or seatbacksuprighttraytableinpositionplease announcements, green juice on tap and space for the flight attendants to hold yoga classes...but for now, just getting onboard with some water seems often like a big enough challenge... ;)
Speaking of Juice – we will be doing a lot more of that again, starting this Monday, with the Juice Feasting Conference Calls…there is still space to join us for this 4 week series of talks on all things juicy and abundant ;) The themes for the 4 weeks will be:

SOG - Save Our Gojis... ;)

Today I ate a few goji berries for probably the first time since breaking my Juice Feast…they were nice and got me thinking abt the bizarre news I recently saw on NewsTarget that the UK Food Standards Agency is apparently trying to stop the sale of these raw food marvels…gojis have boomed in popularity in the UK in the last year, but apparently may not be deemed as meeting European Union food standards. The NewsTarget article states that:

“To avoid a goji berry ban, evidence needs to be shown that they regularly had been eaten by Britons before May 1997, the month and year that EU regulations came into effect that change how "new foods" are approved.”

…yeeeeees…quite how that evidence is going to be produced before March 23rd – the cut-off date – I’m not quite sure, but am very interested to hear more if anyone knows more about how this matter is unfolding…if they are banned in the next couple of weeks, it will apparently be 2 years before it is possible to begin selling them again…eeeeeeeeeeek ;)

    Today I have had:

    750ml water with lemon juice
    600ml herbal tea
    500ml green/carrot juice
200g strawberries, 500g cherimoya, handful dried figs
small salad: spinach, cilantro, flax oil dressing, 3 little Luna crackers from Lydia’s Organics – yummmmmmm ;)
    500ml water
1 persimmon and a tbsp goji berries
    1 litre water
    3 nori sushi wraps
    1 banana
    500ml herbal tea
    400ml water

I am noticing the difference in hydration in my body now that I’m not having celery juice daily. It makes a big difference to me, especially here in a warm environment during the days…I find I am drawn to drink a lot of water in compensation, which is fine by me :) I’ll try to get back on to the celery again – have just been adjusting to life in another new place these last few days and not got round to integrating that yet…celery juice is said to be 4 times as hydrating as water, so having had a head of it a day for almost every day of the last 3 months was an amazing gift to my body and it now longs for it again…
Went out for a jog/walk today in this area – that felt so great to me, to ground myself down more into this environment…I met many beautiful creatures on the way – hawks, rabbits, cats, a cow, sheep and lizards, flowers, trees – it’s so healing for me to get out and explore in nature on my own, to reconnect… I love it, taking it at my own pace, stopping to examine this flower or that tree...when I was larger, I was always so busy trying to keep up with other people on walks that I did not really engage with my surroundings much – it feels so great to me to do that now…
    Hmmmmmmmm, ENJOY :)
