A Little Trim

Today Boxer went to Petsmart to get his first trim. I was a little nervous when we first got there because I watched the girl cut a lab's nails and heard the dog yelp and saw blood squirt on the floor! Luckily Boxer is a good dog and he just sat there while he got beautified. The only thing he didn't like was the blow dryer.

Here he is before...

And after! Hey, he has eyes! He only got his face and paws trimmed so now it kind of looks like he has a tiny head! They brushed out all his kinks so he is really fluffy. His hair color is getting lighter. If you look on top of his head and the black on his cheeks, you can tell.

I felt bad for torturing him so I bought him a new toy. He was so FUNNY with it because he didn't know what to think of it. He kept walking in circles around it and barking at it, which he hardly ever does. His paw is ready to pounce in the picture. After a few minutes he liked it and started chewing it. (He's playing on our new rug. The leather one wasn't very puppy friendly so it's under our table now, if you were wondering.)

Making Cards

Before I moved here, I planned to pursue the hobby of card making to occupy my time while Chase was studying. Well, 7 months later, I have made my first cards! Last night Sherri and I went shopping for some new tools and supplies. We purchased a paper crimper and an embosser. For those that aren't savvy, embossing is basically a 3-D effect for stamps. It was SO MUCH FUN being creative and singing along to old Whitney Houston songs!

These are my cards. The first one says 'from the heart' and the second says 'congrats' (embossed!). I guess I was feeling purple.

These are Sherri's cute cards! If you look close, the pink card and the black stripe were done with the crimper. How fun!!

Celebrating Valentine's

We celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday by going out to a nice restaurant with Shayne and Sherri. The restaurant was called M, for the owner Cameron Mitchell. We ended up having a room/area to ourselves which made it more cozy and quiet. My favorite part was the changing colored lights shining on long curtain things. It was a great night - great food, great place, great friends!

Chase and Shayne got half a cow and you can tell by his face that he loved it! It was seriously 3 inches thick, the biggest steak I've seen!

Sherri and I had some delicious chicken and potatoes. Yummy!

And for dessert...root beer float.

It was unusual to see Chase for a whole night! He's always studying and working hard. Thanks Chase, I love you!

Dry Pack Canning

For some reason I never made it the cannery in Utah. So when I had the opportunity to go here with Sherri's ward, I figured I should go see what it's all about. Being away from family and in a tornado zone, makes me aware that I need to be prepared for an emergency. Now I'm proud to say I have started our food storage! I only got 4 cans and some potato pearls but it's better than nothing.

I must say I loved the uniforms required for the assembly line! I felt like I was back in elementary serving school lunch.

Sherri's job was to use the heavy machinery to seal the cans. She did an excellent job!

My job was not so exciting. I was in charge of putting the oxygen absorber packets in the cans and placing the lids on.

Here is some of our work. It was interesting to see the variety of food that's available. It was hard to know what to get. I ended up getting dried apples, black beans, macaroni, and oats. Yummy!

This is the little place. I understand the one in Utah is three times the size but we should be grateful there's one only 30 minutes away.

So if you don't have one, get a food storage because to quote Sherri, "it's better to be 2 years too early than 5 minutes too late!"

1st Vet Visit

Yesterday I took Boxer to the vet for the first time for his second shot. Dr. McKee's office was a quaint one complete with wood paneled walls and literally a hole in the wall for the receptionist. While we were waiting, a man with his golden retriever came in and Boxer had to show how tough he is by growling at him. Not too smart to growl at a dog that could eat you for lunch! Good ol' Virgil was a nice old man and he gave Boxer a clean bill of health. He trimmed the hair around his eyes so he doesn't get poked every time he blinks, and trimmed his nails so they don't get caught in the carpet anymore. During the exam, he kept telling me what a good dog I have. I tried to tell him not to be fooled because I have the marks on my hands to prove he's not always so sweet. He was really good and he didn't even whine when he got the shot, but I don't think he liked it. When I got him back, he kept trying to hide inside my coat!

See his teeth, tongue and palate? Healthy, huh!

When I got home, I was on the computer and Boxer was in my lap helping me. I wasn't paying attention to him for a few minutes, and when I looked down he had been licking my pants and I now had a huge wet spot. I was thinking he was weird and moved him away and then I put my hand in my pocket and found the reason behind his licking and scratching. I had one of his treats in there and then it all made sense!

Passing the Time

Here is a sample of some of the things I enjoy lately.

Sherri and I get together and watch American Idol every time it's on. When they profile the contestants, we love to guess if they're going to be good or not before they sing and we enjoy laughing at the freaks. I think Simon is softer this season but he still has a way of making people feel like crap.

I'm so excited that Lost is back on! I've been waiting for this day. This show is kind of weird but I love the suspense and all the little teasers that make me keep watching. This episode has me asking all kinds of questions! What's up with Hurley? Why is he crazy and what's the secret he wants to tell? Can't wait till next week!

There is a movie theater by us that has new movies for $3.50 any time because I have an OSU spouse ID card! The theater kind of has a $1 movie feel, though. Last week I saw 27 dresses with Sherri and I really liked it. I go into movies like this not expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised. I've been a fan of James Marsden since Second Noah. (Remember, the show with all the animals and children?) This was a fun movie and I'm sure we'll make this a weekly date.
