Spring Break

This last week was spring break for Chase and it was an eventful week. Everyone we know went on some kind of vacation but Chase just wanted to relax. So he helped a fellow dental student build a deck and helped another one put crown molding up...not exactly relaxing but he loves it. He worked on some projects we had left and also started some new ones. Now our bathroom floor and our vanity are tiled!

More pictures to come when the projects are done.

Yesterday afternoon, Chase was replacing the doors upstairs and things were looking great until he had an
accident. He slipped with his razor knife and cut his thumb pretty good. He asked me for a bandaid and when he moved the towel I seriously saw blood pouring out! It was cut just about to the bone and it needed stitches. I tried to find an urgent care clinic but I couldn't find one open so we went over to nurse Sherri's and she cleaned it and wrapped it. But she ended up having 2 patients. Just as she was finishing with Chase, I started to feel hot and sweaty and felt the blood leave my face. I had to sit down so I wouldn't pass out and Sherri gave me some juice and nursed me back to health. Who knew I would be such a whimp! I wasn't even in the room with them! We really appreciate Sherri taking care of us!

Chase was mad I didn't take a picture when it looked "cool" but here it is wrapped up.

The Easter bunny didn't find us but I did make some monkey bread that actually turned out and was pretty yummy! A few pieces are missing because Chase couldn't wait. And we had a delicious ham dinner with some friends.

Cookie Disaster

I felt like making some cookies today but I knew I didn't have all the ingredients for very many recipes. Then I remembered about some cookies that used to be a Sunday tradition in my family. They are waffle cookies, given the name because you cook them on a waffle iron. I haven't had them in a really long time so I figured it would be a good treat for Chase to try.

While I was making them I was reminiscing about being younger, sitting in sacrament meeting, and getting notes from my sister or dad. The notes were always the same, "Raquel, will you make cookies after church, circle which kind," followed by a list of options. I usually would make some kind but I don't remember making waffle cookies, though.

So when all the cookies were made, I was a little worried because they looked different than I remember. I tried to tell myself that it was because I used different cocoa than my mom. So I started making the frosting. There's no recipe for the frosting, you just throw some ingredients together in just the right amounts. Yikes! I added a little bit more of this, and more of that, and...it still tasted terrible.

They look pretty good, a chocolate cookie with chocolate frosting, in cute shapes because of my heart waffle iron. But they were not good! I'm so tired of having nothing I make turn out like my mom's! I'm sure these will end up in the garbage. I hope I have better luck next time with another recipe, since Chase was not a fan of these either.

Snowed In!

Columbus is getting pounded with a snow storm that started yesterday. Coming home from work last night took me an hour instead of 20 minutes and it is still snowing. We are now at a Level 2 warning, which means the roads are hazardous and you shouldn't drive unless you have to. If it elevates to a Level 3, you can actually get a ticket for being on the roads! It's not that it's a really bad storm, it's just that Columbus stinks at plowing the roads. We do have almost a foot of snow, but the roads haven't been touched! We are in a blizzard warning and visibility is 1/4 mile and if the wind sustains at 35 mph, it will be a blizzard. (Yeah, I've been watching the news for quite some time now. They've been on constantly with no commercials for hours!)

This city also closes down with snow because they don't think they get it often. Of course the schools let out early yesterday, but our ward canceled the relief society and primary activities today. So I'm stuck in my house with nothing to do.

Although you wouldn't know it today, we have had some pretty nice days lately and I've been playing with Boxer in our backyard. He loves playing out there and when I make him come in this is what I see...

so I open the door for him but he still doesn't dare to go down the stairs. So he'll put his front paws as close to the edge as he can and stick his neck way out and sniff around. Today when he looked out, he saw something a little different.

Just a little drift! He does like eating the snow and he likes laying on the edge of our bed watching the snow fall. He did not like it, however, when I threw him in a pile of snow!

Disney Quiz

I absolutely LOVE Disney movies and my favorite has always been The Little Mermaid followed by Aladdin as a close second. I was a little upset that I didn't score higher on this quiz but I haven't seen them in quite a while. The only problem with the quiz is you don't get to see which questions you got wrong so now I have to watch the movies to find out all the answers! Go ahead and try it, you know you want to, and see what you get.
