-JdK- Adam in the UK contacted us with the following request: "I'm researching H.O Matthews, a Norton racer from the 1920s and would really appreciate any information anyone may have. I'd love any images of Brooklands programs from the mid-late 20s or early 30s. Matthews was regularly racing here during this period both solo and sidecar. H.O Mathews was from Manchester and was also both a TT Senior and Amateur TT racer on Nortons. Any help would be greatly appreciated and of course my findings will be documented on this website." Please contact us when you can help.
-JdK- Johan and Meindert in The Netherlands recently bought this CS1. According to the works records it went to Maudes in London on the 28th of January 1928; further to this it was purchased in the UK and exported to the Netherlands about 20 years ago. The current owners would like to know more about the history of the machine so if the bike looks familiar then please let us know!

-JdK- An email from Juris: "I have looked at my parts inventory and have decided to sell a complete set of late 1930ies Norton plunger frame (ES2 or Inter) struts and steel forgings that had been cut off a frame many years earlier. I do not know why and by whom, but these parts came with a job lot of other Norton parts. I am attaching photos. The parts are in good useable shape. The forged steel parts of course have to be brazed to a frame first. The asking price is euro 700 for the whole lot. To Britain I can forward in December through a reliable courier. Other countries by registered recorded delivery mail. Contact this website when interested."
-JdK- Gary in the UK is looking for a +0.040 piston for his 1929 Model 19 Norton. In his own words: "I have owned the Norton for nearly 15 years and it has been a brilliant bike traveling to the Isle of Man many times and numerous local trips. It always starts with in a couple of kicks but recently has got a bit noisy and an investigation of the top end found a worn out piston with 60 thou ring gaps. I am looking for a plus 40 thou piston for this Norton; please contact this website if anyone is able to help"
-JdK- Now here's a nice challenge; I've had the gearbox in the photo above for many years and after a long time found the positive stop mechanism for it and aimed to fit it to my 1931 CS1. To my surprise it did not fit! The bolt and 'cam plate quadrant lever' foul the frame.
This was a surprise at the gearbox shell is clearly labelled EIV 30F which identifies it as a Norton box according to the S-A catalogue.
Then last week I got the photo's below from Thomas in Germany who has two S-A 4-speed gearboxes and they differ in the position of this 'cam plate quadrant lever'. It can be in a high or low position. Note that inside the box, the 'cam plate' and 'indexing plunger' will also be at a different postion.
