ragtags studio central: sarah's random this & that

random means "having no definite aim or purpose," (1655), taken from "at random" (1565), "at great speed" (thus, "carelessly, haphazardly"). In 1980s college student slang, it somehow, and sadly, acquired a distinct sense of "inferior, undesirable." (Online Etymology Dictionary, Douglas Harper) Well, okay, fine, Mr. Online Etymology Dictionary person, but THIS is the 21st Century. It's a whole new ball of wax.

After all, it's the chasing after him I really love.

Lyrics: Kajiura Yuki

Where is this warmth going?
When it’s tomorrow, it’ll vanish.
If I synchronize the heartbeats of our chests
Will I be able to fall to the same depth as you?

I’m always, always by your side,
No matter how far your heart strays.

While we drift inside the darkness like innocent little birds,
we huddle our wings together
You, who hide behind your smile when you’re lonely,
Are a blade of unmelting ice
I bare my heart and embrace you
Forever…

Where are you going alone?
I’m just scared of looking back.
The figure in my chest and the sad color,
Even though I’m sure that they’re actually very similar.

With the same evanescence, we are gazing
At the place that we’ll surely return to someday.

No matter how we’re separated inside this darkness
Our hearts call for each other with a bond stronger than anything
Even if you’re laughing when you’re lonely, I know it.
I want to warm your cold fingers with my tears.
I’m by your side…

While we drift inside the darkness like innocent little birds,
we huddle our wings together
You, who hide behind your smile when you’re lonely,
Are a blade of unmelting ice
I bare my heart and embrace you
Forever…

The Clockwise Witness

Devotchka, The Clockwise Witness

It don't look right in broad daylight.
It don't feel right to me.
If you win the rat race,
If you come in first place,
Then a rat is all you will be.

How long will this take?
How long must I wait?
My heart is sinking. What was I thinking?
I can't fake it anymore.

In this moment of atonement, can you ever forgive me?
Is there something hovering? It seems to be governing
everything once dear to me.

Oh and how long will this take?
How long must I wait?
And my heart is sinking. What was I thinking?
I can't fake it anymore.

Thanks for coming. . .

To everyone who did a little shopping at Julie Joliat's South Street Designs last week, thank you! I know when you get the goods from her, you'll absolutely love them.
For those of you who were asking to see what I have been making lately, well this is just a quick fix of a vintage brooch I stumbled upon at a garage sale last week - I also made some earrings to "go" with it:

I have her poster "Taos Fiesta Queens", which she very nicely signed for me.
According to her official bio, she "uses paint, collage , and trash to create images
that comment on the global political climate, and the effects of consumerism."

South Street Designs Online Jewelry Par-tay

Yay! Not only can I have parties at my house - but:

Sarah Fishburn is Hosting a Virtual Jewelry Show 5/14/08-5/16/08 and You're Invited!!

Hi, I'm Julie, of South Street Designs (aka puffluna on Etsy). Sarah has graciously offered to host a South Street Designs Virtual Internet Party!

Here's a little information about me ... I am a stay at home mom who designs and creates unique, affordable, high quality jewelry in my home here on South Street in Chardon, OH. I started creating jewelry in late 2005 and haven't stopped since. This is where part of my heart goes everyday. I create new pieces pretty much every day and LOVE doing it.

I began selling my jewelry at home shows. My family and friends were so supportive of my dream to make jewelry and to be a stay at home mom and hosted South Street Design parties in their homes. I have also had two Trunk Shows at Simply Swank Salon and Spa in Hudson, OH. Then I found Etsy.com and opened my shop online at www.puffluna.etsy.com. Since then, I've sold over 2700 online items and I've mailed them all over the world to places like France, New Zealand, England, Alaska, California and Scotland to name a few. I was recently featured in Etsy's Success Stories Series.

Sarah will receive a hostess reward based on how many sales come in from all of you! She will receive 10% of sales in free jewelry of her choice.

To participate, go to www.puffluna.etsy.com anytime between 5/14/08 and 5/16/08 and purchase an item. In the comments to seller section of the purchase, please indicate that you are Sarah's guest and that amount will be included in her rewards. I will mail your purchase to you within 1-2 weeks.

I list new items daily!

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

Sincerely,
Julie Joliat

(History & Mystery of) Angels 101

I already have a copy of my incredible artist friend Helene Lacelle's first handmade book, Gnat Begat. It's darling, funky, and cool, all at the same time. You can be lucky like me and get your own copy here. Above is her new book. I have NOT yet gotten hold of it and am just about having a (woeshemana) fit. Really, really want to have it before my birthday party to lure everyone to the "coffee table", but have to get it sent all the way from the Far North - that is, from Canada.

Mayhem, ructions, a word of advice

The Golden Compass. It got mixed reviews. I suspect many of those less than stellar came from people who had NOT read the book. (And reading it aloud to a couple of wide-eyed kidz makes the experience even more fun.) I give it good marks. Because this is a brilliant, visual, steampunk extravaganza. My only real complaint is it should have been done as a mini-series so it could have included much more, and that it clearly was meant as the opening sequence to a trilogy. It's just too bad the powers that be freaked (apparently) at the thought of displeasing certain groups I shall not mention here, and didn't instead just f***ing go for it.

So, watch this brief clip and know that Lee Scoresby would, soon after this, "like to know what" they "can expect in the way of mayhem and ructions. . .":

And here is the fabled Alethiometer - the Golden Compass - in action:
